Close quarters combat ? My preferred choice is 65# but I ain't got none right now. The frog bite has been dismal this year.

@gimruis Bass do not morph into a new creature at night & neither do their food source. I fish the same structure, with the same techniques as I do during the daytime. If I'm on a productive pattern that includes a redbug worm you can bet your sweet bippy that I'll be throwing that worm after the sun sets!

Darkness covers up an angler's presence and most of all his mistakes! I don't fish at night because I think they feed better, I fish at night because it's to stinking hot during the day.

I would discourage using any light at night except for illuminating pathways. Let your eyes adjust to the ambient light. If ya gonna keep relying on watching your line, fish during the day. With that said not everyone's night vision allows them to fish at night. Around the bank (on foot or from a boat) your difficulty will be shadows. This causes difficulties with depth perception, depth perception is your ability to see objects in three dimensions, including their size & how far away they are from you.

Night fishing will teach you how to "feel" bites that go unnoticed during the day because you're waiting on line movement. You will be surprised how much you can see at night including your line. The more you do it the better you'll get at it.

Think about what @WRB & I said, when you're guiding a moving bait with your rod tip, there's your angle. With moving bait you really don't need a cross their eyes hooksets. I just lean on em & keep reeling.

Not to sure how good a checker board pattern would look.

I use the rod tip to guide moving baits in, through, & around cover. I also use the rod tip & retrieval speed to change the depth the lure is running.

Trying to break that will keep you busy for awhile.
