So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
The biggest difference between the upper Sabine, lower Sabine, & Toledo Bend is the Toyota ShareLunker Program. Biologist have proven that not every bass is capable of reaching double digit status. Regardless of food source or how fertile an ecosystem is, without proper genetics it ain't gonna happen. A 13 lb+ from lake Naconiche had it's genes traced to mother, grandmother, & great grandmother. Even more amazing the Naconiche bass, it's mother & grandmother all came from the same male. That male was a stout 7 lb+ specimen.

North of the bridge is always off colored. The overall depth is shallower & that's where the Sabine River enters the lake.

Mustad triple grip short shank users
Every fish? I would question that person's honesty. Round bend hooks stick swipers, triple grips solid hookups. Tournament anglers down here use round bends believing a hooked swiper is one they would have missed with triple grips.

@AlabamaSpothunter It hadn't been verified but there's rumors that bass was caught in a hoopnet. I don't know how that could be done off the bank. You certainly can not get a boat in there. I believe a 17 ponder is swimming out there.

Red/Orange Baits

What size Flashy Swimmer?- Red/Orange Baits
Rayburn Red Toledo Gold Chrome Red Late winter, early pre-spawn, & spawn. Reds, oranges, & chartreuses will out produce all other colors regardless of water clarity or water temperatures. Red colors on Toledo Bend is a must have. Plastics with red metal flake will out produce those without it. Plum, Plum Apple, Cranapple, & Red Bug are all excellent. All my spinnerbaits have a red head. My #2 Jig-n-Craw color is Black Neon (red metal flake).- AI Artificial Intelligence

Some kids simply will not have the same level of enthusiasm as we do. Some kids are starters, some are bench warmers. We have to adjust our teaching to their level of learning.- Jig Fishing (201?) and FTB
Back before we had high tech electronics, dragging a Jig-n-Craw or Carolina Rig was how we determined bottom composition. As @Tennessee Boy mentioned bottom composition changes are breaklines. It also indicates where vegetation will stop growing, again another breakline.- Red/Orange Baits
Just because Joe Pro says throw this color doesn't mean it will work everywhere. Red, orange, with chartreuse is killer on Sam Rayburn & Toledo Bend, not so much in other waters around the region.- Poor Man's Powerpole
Some people call em Marsh Anchors or Cajun Anchors Cajun's call em Throw Down Poles! You can drill a hole & attach a shackle. Or weld a nut on top Tie one end of the rope to the pole the other to your boat, when you wanna anchor simply throw it down kinda hard & you're anchored.- Simplest Lures for New Bass Fishermen ?
First I would evaluate the "kid", as with any sport some catch on quickly from the start. My grandson Aiden caught the bug early, his first bass was caught throwing a Fluke. My other grandson Evan at 16 still has issues even touching a fish. You may notice he has gloves on & that was as close as his hands got. I would teach em not only to cast but how to cast to targets. I would let them pick the lure, show them you value their input. Start building that confidence early.- Missile Baits Monster Jig
I have no problem with deviations in any of my discussions.- Missile Baits Monster Jig
I still have a decent supply of 6" Gene Larew Hawg Craws. I have some similar to the ones in the video that are 6 1/2". Do not over look Texas Rigging those big craws. @WRB it's hard to move away from normal. One of the top lures down here during late winter-early pre-spawn is a Rat-L-Trap. Not exactly a slow lure!- Missile Baits Monster Jig
Big jigs work...small jigs work Big worms work...small worms work Big swimbaits work...small swimbaits work I used to believe like most anglers do that during winter you have to slow down because the bass has slowed down. While it is true that bass in cold water will not chase a lure. That's only partially true because they will chase a lure just not far. The extreme fall rate of a heavy jig will generate a reaction strike. Think of it like punching, once you punch through the canopy it's instant reaction.- Struggling!

Palomar...he done 😉- Struggling!
Last Tuesday I had 2 bites all day, the first was about 30 minutes after daylight & I missed it. The second was around 3°clock & I stuck that one. Jacob Wheeler was fishing the same area that day & only had one bite all day, which he caught. The difference was mine weighed 8 oz, his weighed 8 lbs.- Struggling!
It's the middle of February in South East Texas! It's 60 degrees as I type this, the over night low is predicted to be 58 degrees. Water temperatures are anywhere from the low 50s to the low 60s. The full moon is next Saturday. I know Nadine is around the corner! - So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
