  1. Life cereal is some good stuff, Mike. Don't hijack all the Life!!
  2. So, seeing as how I'm working so much, I'm treating myself to three new Champions. Going to upgrade three of my Savvy rods. I'm currently using a 704, 733, and 734. While I do like the 733, I think it's time for me to let that one go. It's a little too limited in what I can do with it. Let me know what you guys think of these as replacements. 705 or 735 instead of the 704. The 704 Savvy always felt a little underpowered to me. Going to be my primary texas rig and jig rod. I'll probably get another 734 just because of the versatility of that rod. My real toss up is a 704cb or a 705cb. I'm leaning towards the 705 because I've got a cranking stick here that should serve well enough for lighter weight cranks. Planning on using the new one for traps, squarebills, and topwaters (spooks, poppers, etc). Also not sure if I want to look at the glass models or not as I don't have much experience with glass rods and bass fishing. I wouldn't mind being able to toss the oddball spinnerbait on that rod. If that's possible, I may swap the 734 out for something different. Definitely looking for some input before I place my order. Appreciate it guys. Shopping can be fun....and frustrating at the same time.
  3. I tried them. Won't be buying any more of them. The tips on them rolled way too easily. I'll stick with my Owner cutting points. Far better hook for the price IMO.
  4. Once you go Boga, you never go back. Unless you don't have it attached to a flat and drop it over the side.... I've got one of each size now. I use the small one for bass fishing, while the others get stored in my saltwater boat for larger species. Such a fantastic tool. Well, well worth the extra cash you pay for it. I get mine certified at the start of each year just to make sure they're good to go. Thankfully, the IGFA is only a short ride away from me.
  5. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/spinnerbaits-bass-fishing.html Watch the video. There's a section in it that talks about casting.
  6. Without going in to too much detail, I'll take the Niners and the Ravens. The game in Candlestick is going to be an absolute war. I'd say the Giants have the advantage on paper, but I've got a feeling the Niners will pull it out. I know I picked the Ravens, but I'd expect to see the Pats win. Especially after the way they played last weekend. Good pair of games coming up. Looking forward to it.
  7. Give it some time and you'll find some of those giant schools. Pay attention to what some of the locals here tell you. Some of them know the lake really well.
  8. First off, Hybrid is not a Fluorocarbon fishing line. It's a co-polymer. It's a combination of fluoro and nylon co-extruded with each other. It's a fantastic line for just about anything. Is it as sensitive as 100% fluoro? No, but it's pretty close. If 100% fluoro is a 10 in sensitivity, Hybrid is probably an 8. Is it more sensitive than standard nylon mono? Yes. It casts wonderfully and handles just as well. It's cheap enough that you can experiment by buying a spool or two without hurting your wallet any. You really don't need anything over 12 pound Hybrid for the majority of your bass fishing. The 12 breaks at roughly 19.5 pounds. As far as the stretch goes, it's right on par with most other lines. It stretches more than some brands, but less than others. Personally, I don't really think you need line conditioner on Hybrid in 12 pound and under. The 15 pound can get a little unruly though. I could put Hybrid on every rod I have except my heavier braid rods and be perfectly happy in 90% of my fishing situations. In fact, that's what's on most of my rods right now since I'm not fishing a ton at the moment. Give it a try. You'll probably find a use for it somewhere in your fishing arsenal.
  9. Not recommended. Shimano even says that they need to be dry. The tolerances are so tight that any friction will hinder proper operation.
  10. Find a used Citica 200e for sale. You'll use it forever unless you run over it with a car. As far as a rod goes, that all depends on what your wallet is capable of handling. There are TONS of options in the 100 dollar market right now.
  11. This is bordering on child abuse at this point. The Pats are just smashing Denver in the mouth at this point. I'd expect to see Timmy get pulled soon. He's getting beat on pretty good.
  12. That was one of the best play calls I've seen in a long time. It was executed just perfect.
  13. Absolutely fantastic game. That's what playoff football is supposed to be like. Heck of a win for the Niners.
  14. I got out onto one of the bigger strip pits down by me on Sunday. Caught a bunch of fish all staged up just outside of spawning areas. Shallow and deep cranks were getting the majority of the bites for me. Spent a little while flipping a tube into some mats and managed a couple of larger fish, but not much in the thick stuff. Another week or two and it'll be on.
  15. Eesh, 10 pounds? That a record low for a tourney win out there? Definitely sounds like one really tough day out there.
  16. I'm taking LSU in this one. I like Les Miles for some reason. Plus I, like most Dolphin fans have a deep seeded hatred for all things Nick Saban.
  17. Great show. That's pretty wild watching what happens when the feeders go off. Way too cool. I need to make a trip up there one of these days. A place like that could probably even make my father get into bass fishing.
  18. Good luck, Shane. Sometime in the next couple of days there should be some really good fishing going on as the water temps come back up a couple of degrees. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens this weekend and into early next week.
  19. Wish I could tell you Robert. I've been eyeballing a Sterling for a while. Gorgeous boats. Oddly enough though, most of the people I've talked to down here give you one of those you don't want to do that faces when you bring them up. I've personally never even seen one on the water down here. The only one I've seen was sitting on a trailer next to the roadwheat Okeechobee with a for sale sign on it. If you love what you've got, why change?
  20. Great post, Steve. For those of you who haven't tried them, give a pack a shot. You may be surprised. I use them not only because they catch fish, but because the designer is a guy who stands behind his product. I can't remember a time when I've sent him a message and he hasn't gotten back to me about something. Whether its related to his lures or fishing in general. Hard to ask for more than that.
  21. I'll be very jealous of you going to Cuba. I'm trying to decide if I want to make it down to Brazil this year. I'm still in search of a 20 plus pound Peacock. As much as I want to go to a new place to catch something different, it's hard to shy away from big woodchoppers and big P's....
  22. Thats a tough one. I wouldn't want to regularly use something 3/8 and up on my three powers. Depending on the line you're going to use, what lure, and how well you can use a casting reel, throwing an 1/8 ounce lure on the four power may be a little bit of a challenge. If your talking about jut an 1/8 ounce weight on a decent piece of plastic you'd be fine. I wouldn't want to try it with something really small myself. Dobyns tends to rate their rods a little high IMO. The heavy rods fish more like medium heavy. Medium heavy is more like a medium, etc etc.
  23. What're you talkin about. Fisherman are the most honest people on the planet.
  24. Heard about this earlier today. Really sad. My condolences are sent out to his family and friends.
  25. Happy B-Day, Glenn! Hope you're having a great one.
