  1. Matching the hatch is all well and good, but color choice should be secondary. Pick something that fits the conditions. Grab a light color and a dark color if you can afford more than one. The action of the bait is key.
  2. I tried one out not long ago. I learned that I wasn't really a fan of micro guides. I was constantly cleaning those tiny guides when they would get filled with strands of grass. I was using braid. With a standard guide I didn't have any problems with it. It didn't feel like a bad rod, it was very comfortable to use. I was using the 7' H. If I see one at a decent price I may give it another whirl around the block.
  3. I sure wouldn't mind having Dez Bryant down here in Miami.... Thanks Jeff Ireland. You did a good job of not picking that guy up.
  4. Man, that is a fantastic picture, Tin. Well played.
  5. I don't agree with the Skunked's post about breaking rods. I've never broken a rod on a hook set, fresh or salt. I do some type of fishing every day of the year. The only times I've broken a rod have been from stupid human error. Fan, car door, tailgate, etc etc. That stuff he was fishing didn't look that thick. You can see thicker grass than that down here on a regular basis.
  6. Keep on killin em. Hopefully you've done some good damage to the population and they don't recover in a few months.
  7. Ravens Jets Colts Man I hate putting the Jets in the top anything....
  8. I love playing Golf. I'm not good at it, but it's still fun. For me, it's relaxing and a good chance to BS with friends. Plus you can have golf course shenanigans. Whats more fun than racing the carts down the fairway.
  9. I didn't even realize that Kitna was still in the NFL. Sportscenter said he hasn't taken a snap since week five of the 08 season. Lmao. If Dallas wasn't done before, they sure as hell are now.
  10. Actually, that species of palm loves the water like that. Yeah, that was from a couple of weeks back when we had some serious rain. The water level is a good two or three foot lower than that right now.
  11. I don't need no stinkin boat! I can walk on water!
  12. It's kind of like the guys out west that throw the big swimbaits looking for that one big bite. Big worms catch big fish. At least down here. I can't comment for the rest of the country. Heck, I'm not even able to comment on northern Florida. But down here for big fish, you flip the mats, use frogs, or use big worms. Tournament records have proven that. Thats not to say that other baits don't catch big fish. The Skinny Dippers have proven otherwise. I've caught plenty of big fish on smaller worms. I've caught lots of small fish on big worms. I do believe that the larger plastic baits catch bigger fish, at least down here.
  13. You haven't met many service academy butterbars have you?
  14. Sometimes it's censored words. Sometimes a word will also get automatically changed into a similar word.
  15. Just curious to see what you local guys down here are finding better right now. I'm hoping to get out to one of the local lakes around me on Saturday and want to try and make some plans. Where abouts are you guys finding fish right now? Still up under the grass or are they out in schools feeding? Appreciate it.
  16. I use 20lb braid with a 12-14lb fluoro leader connected via an Alberto knot. I've been using the Owner Wacky/Drop Shot hooks. Either a #1 or 1/0. 1/4 oz is usually plenty for me. If the wind starts blowing (like it has been lately), I'll move up to a 3/8. The small Lake Fork Magic Shad in Tilapia is almost like using live bait when you nose hook it. I've caught so many fish on that little chunk of plastic it isn't even funny. Bass Magic Shakey tails in silver shad are a great minnow mimic. Otherwise, almost any small plastic worm will work. Wacky rigging a Senko can be really fun also. Most of the time you don't need to do much, just the movement of the boat will give the lure enough action. Otherwise, just a few small pops of the rod tip, let it sink to the bottom, and repeat. By the way, it can be a nasty rig worked on heavier gear on the outside edges of mats. Just up-size the line, rod, and weight. Great for bedding fish too.
  17. Oh, I'm sure that there is plenty of respect for the guy in the locker room, Shaner. I still love watching him play. He's one of the few people in the NFL that looks like they genuinely like playing the game. I'd love to see him make one more run for a ring, but I doubt that it's going to happen.
  18. Paterno is definitely a different case. That dude is amazing coach. I should probably amend my previous post, it's not 100% academically related. That does have a lot to do with it now though. You're also seeing the parity in college football because of the limits on scholarships now. The classic big teams can't load up on pure talent like they used to.
  19. Rofl. You can't see the other guys in the locker room faulting him for hurling INT after INT? I promise you that those guys just want to win. They could care less who is throwing the ball.
  20. Thats what having higher academic standards do to a successful football program. Lou Holtz wasn't so worried about it. When he left they changed the in house standards for academics. You're no longer getting the cream of the crop athletes then.
  21. You guys have grass that far north?
  22. Man, I was hoping for something different when I read the thread title..... Great fish, Dwight. Those are some gorgeous smallies.
  23. Exactly the same thing I thought when I read the OP. You don't have to stay at Roland's if you don't want to for one reason or another. There are plenty of other options in the immediate area. Okeechobee is hard to beat during March. Plus you won't be cold like you mentioned earlier. Theres a reason it's one of the most famous bass lakes in the world. Plus you stand a good chance at sticking a 10+ pounder in the boat. If you don't want to hit the Big O, there are plenty of other fantastic lakes in South/Central Florida you can go to. Istokpoga, Toho, etc etc. Several of them have fish camps right on the water as well.
  24. I just got done reading the first book he wrote. Great book. Shame the guy passed on before he could write more than the three books in this series. Check him out if you're looking for a good read. http://www.stieglarsson.com/
  25. That's a new Revo you're eating. Puts it into a whole new light when you look at it that way...
