Fly rod for smallies
maybe i was miss informed, but i was told that for a 2lb or bigger largemouth bass you wanted a 8 or 9wt flyrod. so wouldn't that mean you need to same thing for 1lb smallie?

went out yesterday
Nice outing! 3 years and 3#'s is your biggest, and 10 one pounders on this trip. How bigs the pond and what is the bait fish? Cause it sounds like it is in need of a culling session. Dave

current curado 100dsv vs daiwa sol...
Thanks for the reply guys! I've read about the PIXY, and i know it is the best for what i'm trying to put together, i just don't think the better half will let me swing the extra money to cover the cost. i got the $200 range down, but that extra $70+ is going to be very hard. I still have to get the rod to match it, too. This will be my first $400+ setup, too bad the purchase date keeps getting pushed back farther and farther.

upgrade parts for citica/ cruxis?
I've read 2 post that refer to upgrading a citica. I am wondering if anyone has the "reel" deal on this. I would totally into buying a few parts here then a few there at a later time to soup up my reel. Thanks Dave

first time out on a Socal lake..(RESULTS)
OK, i hit Lake Miramar from 0600 to 1700(5pm). I guess i did suck, but so did everyone else,(except the 2 kids using shad/shiners(?). I got hit 2 times today. Once was on a c-rig in about 25' of water, i felt the tug, set the hook, felt the fight back, then nothing, my worm came up to the boat with a whole senko attached, with a rip in the middle, i guess from a wacky rig. That woulda, shoulda, coulda been my first c-rig cath but it wasn't. Second, pitching a jig deep into the cattails/rushes. it hit the water i let it drop on an open bailfelt a very slight tick, then nothing, i set the hook hark over my right should and pulled a beautiful 2lber from the reeds. I went to get my phone to take a picture but the darn phone decided not to work(for 3 hours). So i put him back and went about my day, just glad i caught something. I spent the next 6 or 7 hours just trying to find more fish. I found them(7 of them) but as clear as the water was today, i saw them, they saw me, and they mosied on about thier business. 5 of them were the same size or smaller than my 2 lber, the 6th was a little bigger just enough to tell it was bigger, i guessa solid 3.75 to 4lbs. The last was so much bigger than the others i have no idea how big it was. 8+ by my un-educated guess. all in all i have a few ideas about what to try next time i get a clear sky there. i need to find 5" or 6" grubs in green pumkin, and some jigs that don't have glitter in the paint. I WILL NEVER TRY TO DROP SHOT AGAIN WITHOUT ELECTRONICS, talk about an exersize in frutality. I most places i could see 25' to 30' down barring the wind, all thats there right now is open flats, the weeds are just starting to grow. And supposedly there are 3 humps about 40ft down that hold fish, i thought i was on 2 of them but couldn't find a bite for about 3 hours. I figured that was enough of a dedication to drop shotting. back to the reeds. Hopefuly next time i'll get to ride backseat, but i don't know, the water was in the mid 50's. In about a week or wo it should be up to the low 60's thats when i go there everyday its open(fri-tues) Well, thanks for taking the time to read my drawn out post. Dave ps i apologize for the spelling errors.

Holding Catfish Without Getting Spiked
Buy fishing gloves if all you want is to "lip" them. The bigger spikes are just as sharp but easier to avoid. There is a whole mess of people on the Mississippi who fish for Cats with bare hands. No rods, reels or bait. So a glove is not required, but it will save your "SKIN"

22lbs 7oz reported from Dixon Ca
There's only two bass I would keep ..... the WR and a state record. I would keep the World Record alive if at all possible and find somewhere that would take it in and had a big enough tank so that paople could go look at it.It would be interesting to see how big it could actually get before kicking the bucket. BPS is building 2 stores in California. I think having the world record in one of them tanks would be really cool. Tobad no opther fish would be able to be put in save a big carp or stripper. no trout, talipia, smallies all that would be lumch for this big mama

22lbs 7oz reported from Dixon Ca
The guy who caught it says it was foul hooked, these 3 supposedly know what they are doing while looking for the WR. If it was foul hook they probably released it, knowing that in a few days they can go back and get her the right way. If i caught a 22lb fish, i would have video, pictures from every angle and measurements, then i would find way to have her radio tagged. There is NO REASON to put a real fish on a wall anymore.

Hey guys/gals ineed some help...
I had this Idea and i started it but it went blank, so i would like some ideas from the BR crew on how to complete this. Below are to pictures of what i started, i really don't know were to go from here. INFO: Slow sinking, maybe a a foot a second if not a hair slower. the Cork is Devcon 2tonned to the preweighted hook, it doesn't sit straight up yet but i have and idea to make it sit better. FRONT VIEW SIDE VIEW Now i will be out of touch on a long distance fishing trip for the entire weekend, i hope to have to "WADE" thru the collective creative geneious here at BR when i get back. Dave

Help the FIsh????
talk to your state fisheries guy, they will have most of the info you need, and tell you the legal things you can do to fix it. If you think it is just over stocked, start having fish fries on med size fish. Put the smaller ones back to grow and the larger ones back to breed. BUT TALK TO THE FISHERIES PEOPLE FIRST!

How to apply the top coat?
I went to Wally World and got a couple of the cheap kids paint brushes from the school supplies section. I cut the plastic handle in half and use the non-brush peice to mix the Epoxy, then i put jst enough epoxy on it to cover the lure entirely with a thin to moderate coat. I found out the hard way, DO NOT PUT THICK COATS ON IT. It messed up my weighting, and had to dremmel most of it off and start from scratch.

Colored pencil for lure decorating?
Thanks Whittler! If you got my PM you know i am getting ready to move so i am almost finished til Xmas on making lures i have 1 more to seal and test other than the 2 in the other post. On the topic of off ideas i picked up a small 1/2 flat tip piant brush and notice the wooden handle looked like a cross between lipless crank and a glide bait. When the brush is finished i may attempt to modify it as a lure. I didn't even think about using xmas paper or ribbons, that stuff comes in all kinds of designs and reflective patterns. Thanks Again.

Colored pencil for lure decorating?
Has anyone tried this? It looks to me like it be worth while if you want a really detailed lure. It would also make it extremely cheaper for me to continue with my latest hobby.

Holding Catfish Without Getting Spiked
The smaller ones i alway brought my hand along the back from the tail and use the Dorsal Spike as a slip restraignt. The bigger ones, (i've only caught one to big for the first method) i just suck it up and lip it, but i use the full hand grip not just fingers. The back of your hand can get roughed up ths way but it will hold the fish. I know some of these guys are way more experianced than me.
