  1. Green Pumpkin or black blue fleck Chigger Craws love them as jig trailers or just plain TX rig
  2. Good quality-value but only when they are on sale. Usually when they have the Spring fishing sale is the best time to buy. Do not like their spinning reels at all. The Pro Qualifier is a nice bait aster for entry level. Have 2 old carbon lite rods ( the black ones) and I like them a lot. They are very sensitive. Not St Croix but again, a good entry level.
  3. Medium power will work fine on a spinning rod
  4. I have both. Got some Mettles 2 years ago on sale for 29.99 when they were discontinuing the old model. They are both good work horses but I like the Mettles a little better than the PQs. I also bought the PQs on sale during the BPS Spring Fishing sale. The Mettles for about $40 less have been doing well with a little cleaning during the year. No backlashes but they only come in a 6.3:1 gear ratio. So after all that, I'd say the Mettles are a better value.
  5. Learning about the attributes of all the applications gets frustrating, especially for a beginner jig user. But the website is a lot better than it was. I still wish that if you clicked on a color it would magnify it like you can do on TW when you click on a specific bait.
  6. Silver Thread AN40 in 6# is on two spinning set ups.
  7. Bought some Invizix, Trokar Wacky Hooks, and Berkley power baits.. Chigger Craws and 7" worms.
  8. I only use GY Senkos. Tried Yum and Big Bass but never had the same kind of luck. I use 5" most of the year but 4" in cold weather. For the 5" I use a Lews Tournament Lite on a 6' 10" M Fast rod spooled with 20# Power Pro and a 8# Invizix leader. For the 4" I use a ML XF 6' 9" rod with a Shimano Sahara spooled with 6# Silver Thread AN40 copolymer. For my hook, I always use an owner wacky hook 1/0 with no weed guard and I use O rings on my Senkos.
  9. Is it alright to clean the guides with some rubbing alcohol on a Qtip?
  10. Thanks everyone. Think I'll go with the ML.
  11. I'm downsizing my wacky rig for the winter going from the 5" to a 4". I fish open water from the bank with no trees. I fish my 5" on a baitcaster but the smaller one is too light for it. Would the 6'9" St Croix Avid X ML Extra Fast be a good rod for this? If not, what would you recommend?
  12. Zoom Utail motor Oil Chartreuse Berkley Powerbait Power worms Black Blue Fleck, Junebug, Motoroil
  13. Looking for some suggestions on brands and colors for TRigging a 7-7.5" worm. Most of my friends use the Berkley Power bait Power worm and I was wondering what other favorites might be.
  14. I always look for sales for my equipment. Maybe TW sales and Black Friday, BPS rod and reel trade ins when they have their Spring sale, EBay, old models on sale at 25-40% off when the newest "thing" comes out, troll the Internet for sales from Gander Mtn., Cabelas, etc. I'm lucky because I live near an Academy, BPS, Cabelas, and a local tackle shop so I can try the stuff out.
  15. I'm with you on the Silver Thread. I use their AN40 and Excalibur. The 6 or 8 # AN40 on a spinning reel is awesome. TW carries it but not in all strengths. Google it and you can find it on the web.
  16. I have a MH Fast 7' Academy Ethos blue casting rod. Compared to my St Croix Avid ( which I love) the Ethos is a great value and a stout rod. Plus Academy replaces them if you have the receipt and they break.
  17. I have a St Croix Avid 7' med fast spinning rod paired with a Shimano Sahara 2500 for lighter plastics like drop shots, shaky heads and 1/8 oz TX rigs. I use it a lot when it gets colder and I have to downsize. I have 3 bait cast combos for other stuff and fish from the bank.
  18. GY Senko Baby Bass Watermelon Black Red Pumpkin Black Green Flake
  19. I use it for fishing light TX Rigs and 1/4 oz jigs in clear water since I find it a little stiffer than some of my other rods.
  20. 1/0 Owner Wacky Hook without the weedguard
  21. I use AN40 on one of my spinning set ups for small spinners.
  22. I use either 20# Power Pro to a 8# Seagur Invizix leader or 6# Silver Thread AN40 Copolymer tied directly to the hook.
