  1. Wouldn't the action be different on a jig that was cast out? You would be pulling it at more of an angle rather than straight up. Just wondering.
  2. Get the 50 now and save your money and then get a 200. I think the 50 is a little more versatile, but only by a small margin. The 200 opens up more possibilities for bigger lures.
  3. I was fishing Mink Creek a couple of weeks ago. I was doing good with a Rage Tail 10"Thumper in green pumpkin.
  4. If you set the reel "tight", you lessen your chances of back lashes. As you get the feel of it, loosen it up some. I taught my nephew on a baitcaster and he never had one problem.
  5. In my Core 51, I cleaned the stock bearings and ran them dry. This did increase the casting, but was a bit noisier. I replaced those with the OS bearings and run them dry without the seals and I can't tell any difference. Other than being $25 lighter. As the others have said, give the stock ones a good cleaning and one drop of a thin lube. I use TSI 301 and it works great.
  6. I have that same rod and like it. It doesn't seem all that sensitive, but I've hauled in plenty of fish with it. I use it for spinner baits and big swim baits. You can also hook it over a door and use it for chin ups!
  7. You might look at the Lamiglass Infinity Bass 735. I use it for big plastics and jigs. The lure weight goes up to 1 1/2. I love mine.
  8. At normal price, it's a heck of a reel. Just get it and don't worry. If you're like me, you've probably wasted more money than the price difference anyhow.
  9. Yep. I got a 4600c4 a few years ago and it was made in Sweden.
  10. "Keeping in contact" is having tension on you line so you feel the lure. "Semi slack" is having slight tension on your line. There will be a little bow in your line this way.

  12. What is the frame on the Ci4+? Is it just another name for plastic?
  13. The new ones that Simms came out with, are. They're like $150 though. I'll probably end up with a pair.
  14. I've had the P Line pliers for a few years now and haven't had any problems with them.
  15. The bass can see six times the detail that we see. This means that they can probably see each one on this lure. The book "Knowing Bass" is a great read. Its made me rethink several methods of mine.
  16. I use the weedless worm hook from Gamakatsu and really like it. I recently bought the wacky hook that VMC has and they suck. The wire guard would also double as a leaf spring for a dump truck. I kept missing fish and figured out the weed guard is too stiff. After reading the reviews on TW, every one else says the same thing.
  17. Know also that the crappie and bass compete for the same food. I'd start by getting rid of the crappie. I hate them fish. And notice that crappie is spelled with CRAP.
  18. My fishing advisor is another good one.
  19. Go ahead and spend the extra bones on a Falcon cara micro finesse jig. End of movie.
  20. Your kid and the bait monkey must have met already...
  21. Zman Crawdadz, green pumpkin/orange claws rage rigged with some crawfish Megastrike. I bet you could catch every fish in the lake on one bait.
  22. This spring, I had a small bass to take a swipe at a spinnerbait. The trailing hook went through one corner oh the eye socket and came out the other eye socket. I took the hook out and threw the fish back in. It floated for about 10 minutes, completely lifeless. I looked back at it and it was swimming away. If I catch it again, I'll know it. He's gotta be cocked eyed after that.
  23. Fant, I was having the same type trouble as you. I was using mono with a Skeet crank bait rod, which in itself is super flimsy. I thing that combination has too much give. I switched to braid with a leader and that fixed my problem. With the braid, I can feel everything that my crank is doing. I feel the rods has enough flex to keep the fish buttoned up with the braid.
  24. Whats funny about all of this is when Hawg Tech posted about the bearings the other day, no one mentioned how useless freespool time was.... Where is Irene when you need her?
