  1. eddieg, one thing that I think slows the free spool on Shimanos is the oil on the brake surface. If you get one, take a qtip and clean off the brake drum. You can make it even better by cleaning the spool bearings. It takes less than a minute to remove both of them. All of my reels are Shimano, but I got a PQ to see what the hype was aboout. While the PQ is a great reel, Shimano wins everytime.
  2. For the first 10 responses???
  3. Yeah, go to a place that sells them and find which pair fit you the best. I got the 580 glass in copper and couldn't be happier. That lense is great for sight fishing.
  4. Wow!!! Glad I got mine for the regular price last year! Barnes & Nobel shows a used one at $218, Amazon has a new one at $900. Recon whats up with that? Coots, another good book is "In Pursuit of Giant Bass". This one has lots of good info as well.
  5. I'm more shocked that you got that many fish on one senko. Usually after about 3 fish, mine is shot.
  6. I have the Core 51 on a Lamiglass Infinity Bass 735. That combo is magic! I use this combo for bottom contact. The rod is rated for 1/4 - 1 1/2. The heaviest I've thrown was about an ounce and I think it would do the 1 1/2 just fine. And, It still throws a weightless senko just fine.
  7. Spool it with braid and put all of the brakes on. When you get the feel of it, then start turning the brakes off one at a time. It won't take you long until you get the hang of it. I'd also set the spool tension a little higher than normal. I can set up any of my baitcasters to where they won't backlash. I'd also use an old crankbait with the hooks removed to practice with.
  8. A good friend of mine here on campus, is a fish biologist. I'm gonna see if he can shock it for me and I'll just throw them out for the coons. In fact, I'm gonna go see him now....
  9. Why did you have to replace the spool?
  10. I have a Falcon Micro in the finesse jig. It weighe 3.67 oz and is one of the most awesome rods I have. I've pulled a ton of fish out with it.
  11. The bass and crappie are competing for the same food source. I'd get rid of the crappie. I have a small pond, about an acre, that I have groomed for bass. My neighbor, who owns a small corner of it, puts crappie in it. Every crappie that I catch, goes out on the bank. The racoons really appreciate this kind gesture.I recently stocked it with $100 worth of flathead minnows and I want the bass to get them and not the crappie.
  12. Thats one wild looking cat!
  13. What is this first lure?
  14. In the book "Knowing Bass", Keith Jones says that a bass processes objects with three times the detail that we do. Where we see a blur, the bass sees detail. This being said, I think the Live Target makes a difference.
  15. Be quiet. Very quiet. The smaller the pond, the more caution one needs. I fish a lot of small ponds, some less than a acre, and the fish are very keen as to whats going on. Most of the time when I get to where I'm fishing, I'll wait for 15 or 20 minutes before I make a cast. These small ponds hold a captive audience. They have no where to run, so they get lock jaw until they feel safe again. If you spook them, they won't fall for anything, reguardless of how close you drag it to them, or how enticing the lure looks. You have to use stealth. Good luck and remember, Sssssshhhhhhhhh.......
  16. I just noticed that BPS has Megabass now. I have a few of their lures and I'm shocked to see BPS carrying them. The Megabass is top tier and I hope the Memphis store has a nice selection. I hope I'm not late to the party.
  17. Thanks for the help. Where do I get the better glie sticks?
  18. I know to take the old one off. I heat it with a heat gun. How do I put the new one on? Will there be enough epoxy left, or do I need to get something else? Thanks, Scott.
  19. Lamiglas rods.
  20. I got half of a combo, a new rod. The lamiglas Infinity Bass 735C. Hopefully I can get some bones saved up and put a Core 51 on it. For now, it's wearing a Curado 50E.
  21. I bad a Saros F and a St Croix Premier. I had troubles from day 1 and tried everything I could, nothing worked. I gave it away and bought another casting reel. That solved the problem!
  22. Since switching to the Wacky Saddle and a Gamakatsu weedless worm hook, I get about 99.9%. With the Wacky Saddle, the hook is perpendicular to the worm. I think that makes a big difference. With this setup, I don't have a "hook set". When I see my line moving off, I lift the tip of my rod to keep the fish from swimming away.
