Broken Fin Fishing Fools
We are not 100% sure why but to date our daughter Chelsea has had a completely healthy semester and is nearing the end of another one! Some stress related issues got taken care of so that probably helped. My wife helped a customer looking for a Probiotic in the store she works at. She's just a clerk and asked what they were all about. The guy told her and despite all the medicines that the doctor's had tried this seems to maybe have worked. She doesn't take it all of the time because it gives her a lot of gas, When she feels "it" coming on she takes them and they seem to quiet things down. Thanks for everyone's prayers they might just have worked.

The official review thread
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsShimano Curado D CU200DHSV 7.0:1 ratio List price= $199 I think I paid $139 ? Very nice looking reel. Just holding it feels like excellent quality. The reel is very smooth. I got the reel very very late in the season so I have not had a ton of time to use it. Not enough fish to really judge the drag. A couple of problems I've noticed. 1) The brake weights seem to come loose from the spool a little too often. In defense of the reel is has been when I've been throwing a heavier than normal weight. 2) After adjusting the weights the side plate can downright be a pain to get to fasten back down. I'm no BC weight guru but I don't have as much problem on other reels. I almost had to give up and take the reel back to my truck the last time. Despite the drawbacks I still like the overall quality of the reel. At this point I definitely don't think it's worth $199 maybe the $139. I also don't think it's worth the $80 more than the Citica but I need to fish longer with it to be sure. FFI - AKA Matt Crum

Wish me luck
Still hanging in there with the every other day. I've been gradually turning the speed up on the treadmill. I actually got it to a speed today to have to jog on it. Not for too long but some never the less. That may not sound like much to some but for a guy who was approaching a Santa Claus figure its a big step. Up to 2 walk 3 jog then 2 walk and 2 jog on the track after the treadmill. Again not much too some folks but after a 20yr hiatus its an accomplishment for me. Today I even stepped foot on an elliptical! They ought to have a sign that says "no one over 35 is allowed near this machine"! My next doc visit is in a couple of weeks. We'll see what its done to the numbers after that. If all goes well in a couple of weeks I might put the other foot on the elliptical! Wish me luck! FFY - AKA Matt Crum

thx to this board ,,,bought another revo and first bps extreme reel
I got one when I bought a Pflueger a couple of years ago. I think it is the same one. If so it is ok for the price nothing to write home about. Mine has held up decent for a couple of years now. I probably have too much weight in it for its own good. It is very limited on pocket size for extras. You can barely get the basics in it

Anyone Grow Broccoli?
you have to keep Broccoli picked or it will do what they call "bolt" same for lettuce I think. As far as plants or seeds it depends on your growing season. Broccoli is a cool seaso crop so you have to get it ready to pick quickly before it gets really hot out or it will "bolt" anyway. Strawberries are fun. You can buy plants from a local source or you can get them earlier from seed catalogs. The ones that get shipped from catalogs are kind of like onion sets. They are shipped in a "domant " state if I remember right. Have fun the kid will love them. Cherry tomatoes are great for kids. They can just go out and help themselves. Be careful though as they will help themselves to all of them. Cucumbers are very easy but rememeber that a little is a lot with cucumbers. They produce tons from just a few plants.

Actualy I was surprised it was shut down as several similar threads have been posted over the years. I thought I posted to keep it clean. I'll have to check the guidlines. Better to be safe than sorry anyway so as not to offend someone. Sorry to anyone that it might have.

E-bay gurus
Yep otherwise it would be automatically posted for all to see You should have told the guy "hey lets play poker and you show me your cards" Better yet you should have told him to start bidding and keep it up and he would find out eventually. You did good he seems like a semipro scammer.

Pflueger Summit Advice
I own one and so far I like it. It almost seems a little small but it probably is not. It is very light, casts very well and is smooth. I chaven't owned it all that long ( mid to late last season) . I've caught quite a few fish on it and no problems. I only paid $139 for mine so if in that price range it is a fine reel for the buck. I think they are discontinuing them so you should be able to get a deal on a brand new one. I own several Pfluegers and love em all. Take it for what its worth just my .02 FFI - AKA Matt Crum

1st outing
Re: the fight, they didn't jump but a couple of em put up a pretty good fight. I was fishing a M action so that probably plays into it. One made a couple of short runs so it was fun. I've made a believer out of anyone who has fished with me. Farmpond saw it in person and he will vouch for them working not just me saying they work.

1st outing
Thanks Farmpond - Jeff. Yep 4 fish and 1 lost bait which cost 67cents There were a lot of guys who were around the lake fishing from the bank like I was. They were probably fishing and losing their expensive Luckycrafts. None of them was catching anything but a cold! Just my lucky day I guess. Like I said I got a nice tip ( including lure choice)from the guy close by me who caught a 9.75lb last year. He must know what he's doing as he's caught severl 6's and 7's in this lake RE "show me how it's done". If clinton was any indicator I think it could be the other way around! Paul, We are just barely past ice out. I don't know if I've ever caught a fish so close to ice out. It usually has to be prime bass season before I catch squat. Our weather has been weird but I didn't realize how weird until I check the month's temps. Here's a small sample of our highs prior to Sunday 27,29,30,50, 65,68,54,61,47,62,32,28,43,54,59 Supposed to be around 67 today and 72 tomorrow It was high blue skies for the most part with sporadic slight clouds here and there. I went just after lunch around 1pm so as to let the sun warm up the water a little. I hope you get a chance to get out soon.

1st outing
I went with my usual first ice out expectation which is " I won't catch anything for several more weeks". I caught a nice bass on about my sixth cast using a Shimano Convergence rod and a Pflueger Supreme reel. I caught 3 more bass 3 of which were around the 2lb mark. I fished according to the text book. I fished the Northern most side of the lake from the bank. This area also has rip rap so it was a bonus deal. I've tried this before but have NEVER EVER had any luck this time of year. I caught all 4 on the same 3" Storm swimbait lure. I also tried a Senko and a black/blue jig and never got a bite on them. I also tried for some crappie as I usually think of them hitting before bass but no crappie bites. We are only a little over 1 week from the ice being gone so I'm kind of surprised at the bass being that active not to mention chasing swimbaits.

The official review thread
fish-fighting-illini replied to fish-fighting-illini's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsShimano Convergence CVC-F70M ( 7" medium 8-17lb 1/4-5/8oz weight. I got this on a closeout for $29 from my local tackle shop. It lists for $39 First chance I had to fish with it was today. I used a 3" Storm swimbait on it with a Pflueger Supreme BC. The rod and reel together were very light. This is an IM6 rod. I loved the feel of it. It didn't hurt that I caught 4 nice size bass ( around 2lb ea) on it (I never catch bass this time of year). I like the action of a medium rod better anyway so I think that might have influenced my opinion vs say a MH rod. The rod felt very sensitive. I was fishing from the bank on rip-rap bumping a swimbait alon the bottom and I felt like I had an excellent feel of the bottom, rocks and when a fish. I felt like it was much more sensitive than my older series Berkley Lightning rod ( The berkley is a ML). I was able to handle the fish just perfect and it made for a very fun outing. I would worry about a fish any more than 4lbs though as it seeme a little light for it. I'm willing to give it a try though if a 6lb'er comes along! For the price I'd say this rod is a 4bobber's up on a 5 scale.

Looking to start the year right! Reel Questions...
Man that bites; my oldest daughter lives near there so we stay at the Holiday in right by it. I walk to it. I like that store they had a ton of stuff. At any rate if you haven't bought anything someone has a Shimano Citica for sale in the flea market. Here's the link http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1236566124

Dental question
1 root canal 20 years ago no problems no pain, I was out of it if I remember right? Then again I ate hardshell tacos the day I got my wisdom teeth out so????

why there is no 2 pieces 7' M/H casting rod on the market?
Not sure why they make them in 6'6" vs 7' you'd think it would be the other way around? Even harder is to find 7' 2pc in a medium you can find MH a lot easier They can be found but you've got to look hard

Should wounded soldiers be forced to pay?
Not enough info to really comment but with what's given I'd say them paying from private is ridiculous. I think I've read on private insurance that a few things are not covered and that war is one of them. So assuming military covering I'd say no out of pocket for war or work duties. Maybe a VERY SMALL deductible for home accidents or for family but $100 or less. Keep in mind that although they get housing and medical many military salaries are extremely low. I heard a former army guy say he didn't know a single military person who wasn't on food stamps. Keep that in mind when you think of our military people.

How often do you check this forum?
""I think Too much for my own good shouldve been an option"" Yep or "too often" should have been an option

Looking to start the year right! Reel Questions...
6' or 6'6" either would be fine. What about a baitcaster for the same price? If not now then if you watch you can probably find a BPS Extreme reel for that price. You could probably couple an extreme reel with an extreme rod very close to your budget. The Extreme rod might be a slight step up from the Lightning. An Extreme spinning reel / Extrem rod are cheaper yet.
