  1. Outstanding work (and documentation for us!) Great job!!
  2. mentioned here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1207264442/0#0
  3. http://www.outdoorchannel.com/Shows/MonsterFish.aspx It aired this morning 8am central (and I'm sure it will air again) Episode 3: 3] TREV GOWDY HUNTS DOWN MONSTERSIZED 15 LB LARGEMOUTH BASS FROM NORTHERN CALIFORNIA....
  4. In general, a good c-rig rod is 7' and heavy power, fast action. There are exceptions to every rule but this works best for *most* people. Many c-rig rods can double for frogs, big worms, jigs, small swimbaits and in some cases flippin'/pitching rods. A dedicated c-rig rod is mostly a function of convenience and not wanting to retie each time I switch. My last 2 c-rig rods were on complete opposite ends of the price scale. My old c-rig rod was a 7' hvy, fast All Star classic, labeled as a c-rig rod. I won it but it retails for under $50 at Academy. It was a shockingly good rod for the money. My current c-rig rod is built on a 7' hvy, fast St. Croix LE blank (5C70HF). Both got it done even though the Croix is noticeably more sensitive. What is your rod budget?
  5. No blank is perfectly straight and no eyes are perfect... therefore no rod's guides are in 100% perfect alignment. Unless they are bent, the best adjustment is NO adjustment. By moving them (bending them) you risk 3 things... cracking the wrap's finish, breaking the guide leg or popping out an insert.
  6. I saw the monster fish episode this morning! Very cool to see!! Nice fish and a beautiful lake. Major props to you!
  7. Well, we don't all have an income like yours!! People who work on the road, can save a lot of money that way... I've racked up over $50 in a single month on info calls for numbers. And I'm not an "outside" or "traveling" type employee... for self employed or family businesses, (non-reimbursed) those savings are real. That translates into a new GLX rod and a Curado 200E combo annually.
  8. That would be great. I think you and I are exceptions to the rule and the market for different spools is probably very small. There are spools available for the core... through Japan Tackle. $$
  9. It wasn't the same in print.
  10. I wish you guys could have seen Barlow's back in the 80's. It was the best! It was the "BPS" store when BPS was just a catalog... they didn't push house brands, in fact they carried everything!!. I grew up near them and that was my local shop for many years. These days it's not even in the same league as it used to be... I am sad every time I return to Dallas and (visit my parents) stop in there. Back to topic... there worms are decent quality, hold up well and are priced pretty good. RW- unfortunately Brent doesn't carry everything. ...lol
  11. I hope I'm wrong for your sake but I didn't think that part timers qualify for benefits.
  12. LOL, you need to take a closer look at those girls.... :-* Does the name "Pettis" (sp?) ring a bell? On a serious note, great news, Carl, I'm happy for you!!
  13. The 50 MG's hold more line than the Core and they cast light weights all day with no trouble. I also like fresh line and change it daily in many circumstances but with #14XT you can cast it all out. And since I used it as my t-rig reel I had to retie fairly often, fishing timber and brush so sometimes I was forced to respool at lunch time. Plus when I fish a couple lakes in particular, I like #17 line for t-rigs... not an option with that reel. Like I said it's a great reel but I guess I should amend my other statement to say for some mono users, it's line capacity limits you.
  14. Heck, for the cost of a crappy and unreliable car, you can drop a new (or freshly rebuilt) motor in it. If you are set on replacing it, why not go with a truck or suv that is stock height so you get the towing capacity and still have a more car-like ride than you are used to.
  15. It's nice, for sure. My one and only complaint is line capacity. If you use mono, you are very restricted.
  16. I got one as a gift a while back... never got around to installing it. ...lol I think it would constantly allow a gap between the unit (roller) and hull since the steel bar that throws across is like 3/8" and the loop in most boats is much larger. Any gap allows the boat to bounce, which always sucks going down the highway. Anyway, that's why I never installed it. If I can remember which box it's in, I'll sell it cheap.
  17. So who is going to eat the first rod that is broken? I require insurance, it's not even up for discussion.
  18. No worries, graphite will withstand much lower temps than you will.
  19. Your post office is more honest than mine. ...lol Seems like the best price I have paid was still over $20 (priority mail) but all the tubes are over 7' and Sch 40 PVC with at least $300 in insurance. I can't remember what the insurance alone cost but since I switched to Fedex, I send it 2 day air with same insurance for almost same cost (within $5) and I get real tracking. Oh, and I don't even know how fast or slow the insurance claims process is with Fedex... if you catch the drift. (trying not to jinx it)
  20. I avoid USPS with rods... too many claims for broken rods and they pay in 12-14 weeks after the claim is filed.
  21. I'm guessing that if he were open to that question, the pics wouldn't have been photoshopped! ;D
  22. I didn't realize that quantum was the first BC reel and pioneered the entire concept. : I don't badmouth them, but I sure don't credit them with complete originality either. I also don't think it's a coincidence that Shimano only copied the handle nut. ;D ;D ;D (If they actually did copy it)
  23. Dang you... there goes all my credibility. :'( ;D
  24. A good roast has an element of truth some where in it... and that's the problem. Anything decent would get deleted.
  25. $500 only equals about 2 tournaments worth of spending, and that's on a local level.
