  1. BASS fishes 11 regular season events. I can name my top 25 lakes and still leave out some awesome fisheries as well as missing some great states along the way. I think BASS could do 11 different locations for years to come and not run out of places to go without going back as often as they have. Hope some of you guys have the opportunites to witness a live event. Hookem
  2. Try some Texas rigged Culprit 7.5 punkinseed worms, 1/8-1/4oz black bulltet. Also, Parmer Lane tackle used to carry Nichols products, try the smoked red glitter tubes. Down size your line to to at least 10lb. When that don't work, the standard chrome and blue Bill Lewis Rattle trap will take fish all summer. Good luck and Hookem Horns! Not to good with ponds in Austin area. Decker Lake, ie....Walter E. Long has some bank fishing with lots of grass, or did have grass few years back. Great shore fishing on the newly renamed Townlake, Lake LadyBird down town Austin. Heres a little secret, Lake Austin, just below Travis has produced it share of SAL's and double digits bass in the grass' as well. Heres the little secret, LadyBird doesn't allow motorized boats on that stretch of the river, thus not much pressure ever, and its the next leg of the Colorado river just below Lake Austin. Some very big bass in that stretch, just like Lake Austin, just untapped. There are miles of joggin paths on both sides of the lake down town. Great spot to walk the banks with good fishing.
  3. Reading on several other media outlets, this was something the pros have been asking for, for a long time according to the fine print, do away with the back seater. How many times do you see Tiger and a Co golfer paired on Sunday? Name one sport, were an Pro is teamed with an amatuer when the money is on the line? We aren't talking exhibition events either. Somebody needs to check the stats on actually how many Co anglers fished multiple events? I have seen the local ones that came through our area, and I can tell you that most of the time, not all, its the family and friends of the Co angler that show up for weigh-ins who are local boys. Thus fan support, guess what, you want have as many with out the locals fishing as co's. But then again, most weigh ins are not that big a spectacle any way. Specially if you compare them to any of the other top 5 sports. Bassin has never been spectator friendly, and never will. It just don't generate any revenues because the arena floor that bassin takes place on is public lake , free, and then just how many non fishermen are gonna buy boats for one tournament a year to go watch? Funny, no one ever wants to blame the Pros for some of the changes that come about. BASS gets blamed for it all, yet the pros have been asking for long time. Go figure! My take, some Pros are made men, don't need another check to fish them all, and then there are guys who need checks to survive. 5500 is big investment for some, they deserve all the water to them selves. Food for thought, Martens and Velvick and their Co's share a 100 yard stretch for 3 of the 4 days on Falcon. Did sharing that water with Co's who weighed nice sacks as well cost them $100,000?
  4. I normally make the drive in the mornings, its only 45 minutes to the ramps. Would be interested in grill'n and chill'n one evening with all BR members. Hookem
  5. What makes a bass boat? The ability to store your catch live for the weigh in. Do all boats have TM's? NO Do all boats have elevated casting decks? NO Do all boats have depth finders? NO I have seen some center consoles that make nice bass boats. I fish on two trails that have a rule stating that, Livewells must be factory installed!
  6. What McDonalds are you referring to then that is upcoming if Fork is to far? Sealy only does a handful.
  7. What did you guys think was gonna happen when BASS got bashed for the unproven facts that flew around after Falcon. It was reported that the majority of the fish that died was Co-anglers, and that isn't the numbers Trip posted or mentioned on TV. Still not one shred of evidence to prove the claims of the thousands of pounds of fish that died. So who got the worst end of the deal due to all the blogs, the co angler. WE can all take some credit for this change, we kept a story going that had no proof, just speculation. Next time you bash an organization, think of the changes that it may effect and ask your self is that what you intended? Was a third livewell just gonna happen over night? No Do spectators want to see 3 bass limits on both sides? No Does limiting the Co angler to 3 fish fix the problem? no 40 lbs in one well is still the problem Does limiting the Co angler to fish 3 days fix the problem of livewell over crowding? No Did the shared weight go over big with co anglers in the past? No, they didn't like that idea either. BASS eliminated the Co angler giving the pro 2 livewells to support his catch, the only logical choice. Before you bash, think of who really gets the raw end of the deal in the end.
  8. What tournament did you fish on Grand? September is still a few months away for Fork's Big Bass Splash. I'm a 3 day hole setter, I'll wait for the one bite instead of running and gunning like alot of others.
  9. Gives new meaning to "catch and release".
  10. Nice to hear from you.
  11. Tip- Do you mean pro-Favre or anti-Favre protesters? I ask because they've had pro-Favre rallies as far south as State Fair Park. Matt- I never said Rodgers can play in the cold, I just said Favre can't. I've watched almost every single game he has ever played at the pro level; he simply can't get it done in the bitter cold anymore. I do agree with you on Rodgers and the injury bug. I'm very concerned about that. But hey, we've been spoiled with Favre and his ironman streak. If Rodgers goes down, we'll finally know what it feels like to have the Pack's starter miss a game. I'm glad they drafted Brian Brohm just in case. Not very many teams or individuals can play in extreme cold conditions. You don't ever get used to that and the pounding that comes with the cold on Sundays. I always say proof is in the pudding. Say what you want over the past 3-4 seasons, talent stunk, RB position has been injury plagued for his past 4-5 seasons putting the pressure on Brett to do what he did when he came into the league, be a gunslinger. And his receiving core wasn't the best surrounding him either. Key losses seasons past with Walker leaving and such. I think being one game short of the Super Bowl speaks for what Bret did last year. By the way, how do you judge someone? From past results! Last years results showed he can still play. Lots of the great QB moved on to finish their careers. Unitas, Namath, Montana all finished elsewhere.
  12. You get paid that or make that kind of money for that long and you'll have an ego that needs to be stroked too! I don't think Brett can help another team at this stage of his career, but he knows the players that surrounds him in Green Bay, and chemistry goes along ways in team sports. If my memory serves me correct, Mr. Rodgers has had two season ending injuries thus far in the pros. Boith scrambling in the pocket!!!! He's waited for awhile, but he hasn't proven anything yet, When has Rodgers proved he could play in the cold???? For a season??
  13. I don't pay as much to the barometer during the summer for the most part, but when fronts, cold fronts mainly, start entering the equation, I do think theirs a "better " window of opportunity. Remember, My part of the country, TX, we have southernly winds for the most part of the summer, which is stable weather! It wasn't scientist that came up with the conclusion : "Winds from the north, means put no effort forth." "Winds from the south, they are as good in your mouth. That phrase was coined by fishermen many moons ago before the invention of any electronics. So, I'd say that they coined that pharse from expeirence, wouldn't you?
  14. As with most lakes, the water in the upper arms are normally stained as compared to the water towards the dam. If you notice, TBend is 75 miles long, and fishing reports are broken down into upper lake, middle, and lower. Water clarity can be very stained to muddy on the upper part, stained in the middle, and stained to clear on the lower part of the lake. Just depends on the season and if other lakes are releasing water that run into TBend. Years past, not much was released into Tbend from Fork or Twakoni. This year, different story thus far. Also, know what tributaries feed those bodies of water. Unlike years past, Twak is full and has water over the spill way most of the year off and on. When Tbend opens some gates, that pulls the muddy water in the backs of the creeks out into the main lake. Was just on T Bend for 3 days, i fished the Housen Bay area and that was very clear water. Last time on Rayburn was in April. I'll be on Rayburn 2 days towards the end of the month. I'm sure Catt will be along anytime to help you further.
  15. The earths atmosphere exerts pressure upon the surface of the water. We as humans don't really feel the effect like a bass does, but when you fly for example and change altittudes, you feel it drastically. Just like when you dive deep, you now feel the pressure under water. Ever see a salt water fish caught in 200 feet of water when its reeled up fast. Its airbladder expands due to the pressure change, so what appears to be mild (pressure) to us, is big issue for fish to deal with. They make adjustments to pressure, so why wouldn't we want to know what fish do to adjust to the ever changing pressures during frontal months? A bass that lives shallow year around is effected more than deep living fish. A shallow bass normally relates to the bottom, that bass can't adjust in the water column, by moving down, thus that bass normally just hunkers down into cover. Most say you must drop a bait on his head to get bit. A bass that suspends out deep in the winter can move a foot or two to adjust to the front moving through the area. Also remember the species in your lake. we find in Texas, that Florida strains don't like 3-5 days of cold weather in the 30's. Florida's don't like cold water period. So consider what a cold front does to your lake and the species of bass within. A cold front in Florida is mild compared to Texas winters.
  16. I keep waiting for the punch line. All lakes have it? Water.. or at least we hope. Did I win anything for the correct answer?
  17. Last week, on Ray Hubbard, located on the edge of Dallas, as the morning comute into Dallas began and the sunrose upon the waters, the morning traffic was treated to a bass fishermen fishing in the buff along the rip rap of the long bridge across Hubbard. Anyway, someone called a news station, and the morning chopper for traffic decided to take a peak at this story. Well, once the eye in the sky pulled up on the nude bass fishermen, he decided to take off. Tooooooooo much exposure for the fishermen I guess. LOL As news of this story flooded the forums and airways, lots of jokes were flying. Of course a friend of mine emailed me and asked what I was doing on Hubbard that morning and I told him not me. That was easy to see when the guy sped off, I said he had small "johnson" on the back, and I have a "Big Johnson" . True story.
  18. Its amazing how some people forget how a TV station makes its money to pay their bills.. Any Nascar coverage is better than none..
  19. I've always heard that a steady barometer with high pressure is the worst for fishing. I thought bluebird skies aren't a good thing, and that a falling barometer was better. I can tell you that high pressure, bluebird days don't stop the bass from feeding. What the summer high pressure days do for us is allow you to set your watch on most days as to when the bass move up to feed every day in certain areas. The key to weather in the summer is the consistency of it. Its hot in Texas, and winds are generally out of the southern directions for about 3 months, that a steady weather pattern unlike fall when its hot one day and cold, when fronts are moving through every other day. One day winds are northern, the next southern, the next day east. Fall and winter and spring throw changing conditions, summer weather is stable generally. Alls a blueblue sky does normally, is hold bass tighter to cover. Whcih means the strikezone is shorter and casts need to be more precise to the target. They still eat.
  20. Check out the little power plant lake in La Grange Tx, Lake Fayetteville County, you'll be surprised at the class of fish this little lake holds.
  21. Love Wave Lizzards. That ribbed surface really seams to out perform slick/smooth surface lizzards. The added vibrations seems to work better due to the ribbed finish.
  22. They all kinda alternate Lakes, as CJ and smallfry said, its the Field size, the seasonal pattern, size of lake, species of fish, and an anglers strengths that dictate fishing styles and the size of fish being caught. There have been some great names that fished both series. Ike, Yelas, Tak, Davis, Fritts, Cochran, Clausen, Cook, Kelly Jordan, and the list gets long. Theres so much talent, that on any given weekend, some ones strengths can win on either trail. I see lots of BASS guys using the spinning gear as well when needed.
  23. I was about 6 years old when my Dad took me plugging on Amistad, he was a Coach at Comstock in the late 60's. Fished the Devils River on numerous ranches back then. Shyster and a Zebco was all you needed for 100 fish days. Have been hooked ever since. Some real gems in Choke, Amistad, and Falcon.
  24. Try a lower unit for 4200.oo, then months later, #6 piston detonates costing you another 5 grand. Take your nickles and dimes and be thankful. You haven't had any major repairs at all.
