  1. From what I hear about most of the V series rods, it will probably fish a little heavier than it what says...maybe more towards a medium. But they sure are pretty...and darn light too.
  2. Alton Jones used this rig in one the Day on the Lake Live shows on Fayette County Lake. He was fishing the rig exactly as RW explained in I believe 30 fow below the dam. I believe he caught a few on it; nonetheless he swore by the rig as well.
  3. jeb, if you don't mind me asking. I usually change out my crankbait hooks out of the package with owner stingers or triple grips and go up a size without affecting the action of the bait, but usually I do not fiddle with my jerkbaits because I have failed miserably in the past by destroying the baits action. I haven't had a problem the hooks on my mcsticks or pointers, but do you change out the hooks on your rcstx's? If so what size, brand? Thanks!
  4. So to summarize for everyone, the rcstx is a solid jerkbait for the price. Not on the same level as the 110 in action but none the less will catch you fish (thats what we all want right?) And...the split rings need to be changed out (size 2 owners fit the bill) because they are hack and the hooks could be changed out if you want a better hook up percentage, as with most baits.
  5. Craiger check out Paycheck's Donkey Thrasher. It is a finesse version of an a-rig (if that even makes sense) with better action. I plan on picking one up.
  6. Kalin's!!!!!!!!! Key is to fish em nice and slow, that is where it excels over other grubs. However I have yet to try the new rage tail grubs.
  7. x2 on jerkbaits not being very effective in muddy water. it is predominately a clear water bait, where the fish can chase it down from a ways away. What colours are you throwing for crankbaits, forget about matching the hatch and just make sure you use something bright like firetiger or really dark so the fish can find it. A crankbait with a rattle will help also. They also will probably be sluggish this time of year, so try and find some cover to bang it off to get a reaction strike. Brush, stumps, any remaining grass you can find. Good luck!
  8. I too love watching these classic videos in anticipation of the upcoming classic. When bassmaster changed their site this past year, they got rid of the videos section so it is kind of tricky. They are still there you just have to work to find em. You can either use the search function on the site and search for "classic" and then on the right side narrow down your search to videos. All the classic videos should now be shown. The highlight shows that are usually 45 mins to an hour are the ones labelled "Classic XX11" for example. Another way to do it is to just type in the classic you want to watch as shown here http://www.bassmaster.com/video/classic-xxxii Hope this helps. I also love watching the day on the lake series from the site. Cheers
  9. What kind of hook are you using. Trying using a regular straight shank worm hook instead of a wide gap hook if thats what you are using. The offset in the wide gap hooks will catch weeds while texas rigging the worm on the straight shank will pass right through the weeds. Offset http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hvoSKpTmlYo/ThOzembvbFI/AAAAAAAAAm4/BEhKa1G_PZo/s1600/Carolina+rigged+Texas+rig+w-Senko+worm.jpg Straight Shank http://www.glennsrodngun.com/product_images/uploaded_images/gamakatsu-strtshnk.jpg
  10. If you are using a regular offset worm hook, switch to a regular straight shank worm hook. What can happen sometimes, is the weeds will get caught on the offset of the shank. If you use a straight shank worm hook, you will not have this problem. Texas rig the bait just like you would on the offset hook. Just to show you what I mean: This will come through better: http://media.basspro.com/images/articles/Gamakatsu_StrtshnkLite.jpg Than this: http://media.basspro.com/images/articles/Gamakatsu_OffsetShnkOshgnyW.jpg Notice the offset of the shank where the weeds can get hung up on. Good Luck!
  11. one of my favs..had someone take a pic of me after launch last year
  12. tru tungsten flick shake jig...3/16 oz...with a 4 inch tiki stik or similar. Deadly technique in cold clear water when those smallies are being shy. i usually opt for 6 lb fluorocarbon on a 7 ft fast action spinning rod.
  13. Great episode Mike...I can't decide whether you need a haircut or whether that look is good on you...either way..nice fishing! Phil
  14. Your girlfriend is going on a 2 day fishing trip with you and she is friends with the baitmonkey? holy crap where did u find this girl? lol sounds too good to be true! good luck on erie! could I ask how much your package cost?
  15. I picked up shaw's book the other day on sale called "notes on fishing and life". It's actually a really good read if anyone has a chance to read it. He does seem like just a genuine dude who has been through a lot and really is taking advantage of his time on this planet.
  16. Although I think all those guys are awesome, I would have to say that I hope Aaron Martens wins this one. He is way overdue and has come close so many times. Right now I think he is the best in the field without a classic win under his belt.
  17. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the waters up in Haliburton, Ontario...will be fishing up there this season and was looking for some feedback on some of the lakes. I know there are about 10,000 cold clear lakes up there that hold bass lol but any comments on any lake you may have fished are much appreciated! Thanks in advance! Cheers
  18. Im gonna say of the previous decade..senko hands down..for the upcoming decade, I think we are gonna continue to see new finesse products and techniques that will continue to come out of japan... the flick shake technique is becoming really popular right now...if not other techniques I'm not aware of. And btw, if anyone hasn't tried the flick shake technique yet, look it up and get yourself a tru tungsten flea flicker jigs. The action is unreal! and most importantly it catches fish!
  19. I generally fish 3 inch chigger craws exclusively and match them as best as possible...I like the 3 inch size for a smaller profile...and for a bigger profile I have had success simply nose hooking the craw...the action actually improves this way as well because the bait has a little bit of freedom on the hook.
  20. I like the pro model spot removers...have not had much of a problem with them yet..sometimes get hung up on rocks but pop out of snags fairly easily...they sit up on the bottom beautifully as well...usually throw them with a chompers drop shot worm or a strike king 3x finesse worm
  21. Some of My Favs in No Particular Order (All on WFN) - Scott Martin Challenge - Bass Edge - Facts of Fishing (When Mercer is bass fishing) - Gettin School'd - Fish PAA TV - Classic Patterns - Lunkerville
  22. I know i'm reiterating here but practice. I was in your position not to long ago. If you want to eventually make longer pitches, the spool tension is naturally going to have to be decreased, but make sure you are comfortable thumbing the spool first without backlashing...that is the key. Also, let the rod tip and your wrist do the work for you, it should feel smooth and natural when you pitch. good luck!
  23. welcome from southern ontario!
  24. Thanks everyone!
