  1. I have 5 of the older Shimano Curado's & 4 Pflueger Supreme's. I like the lighter weight & the external spool adjustment of the Supreme. That would be my choice.
  2. 1- You need a deep cycle battery for your T/M, either a size 27 or 31. If you have a walmart in your area they carry them. Hook your T/M only to this battery. 2- I have a Minn Kota T/M & a Garmin 178c (GPS-Depthfinder) on the bow & a Garmin 250c & 2006c (depthfinder & chartplotter) on the console all are powered from the main battery & have no interference. The cone <'s are 14 & 20 degree's. If you fish deep water where the cone <'s could overlap you would have a problem. A 20 degree cone < in 10' of water would give you approx. a 3' dia. circle so if you have a 14' jon boat you should be ok up to about 45'. If you have a Motor Guide T/M I understand that they can cause interference with the depthfinders mounted on them. I have also heard that sometimes due to harmonics that Lowrance will pick up interference. If that happens pick up a R/F filter from Radio Shack & install it as close as you can to the unit.
  3. 6ga. would be much better, battery would run down as fast. You can't tape the 6ga to the 10ga & fish it thru? If you do that make sure you secure your wires together good. You don't want them pulling apart while fishing them thru.
  4. Al I have a Ranger 185vs with a factory mounted hand operated Minn Kota maximum 74lb. I just went outside & looked at mine because it's close to interfearing with the port rod locker. The mount stickes out over the rub rail on the bow, about 1 1/2 " Put the T/M in the down position & line the T/M shaft up with the center line of the bow Then shift the mount around to avoid your storage box. On mine in the stored position the The T/M head sticks out even with the rub rail along the gunnel. I hope this helps some.
  5. So you forgot your point Al. It could not be that 59 thing could it? I'm 67 & 1/2 the time I forget when I have to go to the bathroom but it's ok because in 5 min. I'll have to go again. Now to the point I feel that both the stores are about =. As has been stated the sales people are not as knowledgeable in many of there stores so for that reason I don't drive 100 miles to the nearest BPS. It's just as easy to order from the catalog. Those ladies don't know much except what it says on their computer. I do order from both compinies but not as much as I use to. I have found The Tackle Warehouse thanks to the people on this site. Everytime I have called & ordered I have spoke to a fisherman Who could answer any question I had. I order a lot of west coast baits that we don't see much of on the east coast(either have the fish) & they always tell me how they fish them when I ask. So I tend to use them a tad more then the other 2.
  6. If it was me I would get the 50 amp breaker. Any boat dealer should have one.
  7. I use one It's the 111 a or b. BPS has them.
  8. They sell them like that to get that payment low so people think they can now own a boat. As Cart7 said within a year they are back. Been there done that & did not get a "T" shirt. Also if it's going to take 3 months to change out a motor find another dealer as fast as you can. On this last boat I bought they gave me that song & dance. I told them I'll see you later & all of a sudden they could do it in 2 days
  9. Chug Bug I did not mean to offend you & I am sorry if I did. I have had bass boats since 1974 & made the same mistake you are thinking about making on my 1st. one. It's not about speed it's about RESALE & PREFORMANCE. I have a Ranger 185vs that I run about 4000rpm which gets most of the boat out of the water & I get my best fuel consumption. If I had a 90 on it, it would be a plow & with todays fuel prices I would hardly be able to use it. I will also tell you to get the bigger trolling motor as I said in my earlier post. You are going to need it to pull that boat around. especially in a little wind or current. I know $22000 is a lot of money & I agree with madhouse that if you shop you will find one close to that if not on it. As I said before my buddy told them $33,000 for it & they said no way but a week later they called him & said ok. Those dealers are trying to fit you in at retail. Play hardball & shop around for sure because the boating season is about over & they know it. In another month they will be having all kind of sales.
  10. Where do you live $22,000 sounds awful high for that Stratos rigged like that. My buddy just bought a 201 pro xl with a 250, loaded for $33,000. He had no trade, he sold his boat himself. I would shop around some more. I would go with the Stratos but with a 150 hp engine & a Minn Kota 24v 80lb thrust trolling motor any thing less & you will not be happy because it will not do the job. That is experience talking so take it for what it's worth.
  11. After reading Alpster's reply I decided that there could be some real issues here. So I called my congressmen & told him I needed a grant to study problem. I mean divorcee's living with jackfish in lilypads, the excruciating pain inflected upon being caught, etc. He was quick to come to the aid, he wanted to take part in this venture & donated some zoom worms, hooks & weights & off to the river we went. We were going right to the source. Each fish we caught we ask a battery of questions & 100% said they had a poor family life because there parents would try to eat them after they born. As for the pain they all said with one exception that they had a pain in the butt & that was us asking all our questions & to hurry up & get them back in the water. We did not question one because I caught him on a big beaver which was bigger than him so we figured he was on drugs, so now we need anothr grant to check out this problem. So now that we have the answer from the source we can all go back to catching fish, not that anyone was going to stop.
  12. I like Avid grew up on Long Island Fishing with my dad for the same things. When I was 15 I got my 1st boat & use to go clamming off Fire Island to make money. The next year we got a larger boat & fished for Bluefish & weakfish in the jones inlet. Those were great times. In 1957 I enlisted in the Navy & did not start bass fishing until I was transfered to a submarine(dbf) in Charleston SC in 1969. Been at it ever since. KB Kindle, WOW did you bring back some memories, Thanks.
  13. I have a Garmin 178 C on the front with the x-ducer on the T/M. GPS antenna up front. On the console I have a Garmin 250 C interfaced with a Garmin Chartplotter 2006 C. The x-ducer is mounted in the bilge under the batteries in the back & the Chartplotter antenna is mounted alongside the console.
  14. Chief: Get one of the electrician's off the ship to help you. For a beer & hamburger they will all show up.
  15. To expand on what Madhouse27 said. Go to an auto parts store & get a battery cable with a lug on each end to hook the pos. of one battery to the neg. of the other.
  16. I have one & used it on a 74# thrust Minn Kota hand operated t/m. It improved my performance a lot. I could run my t/m at lower speeds with better results. It worked excellent in the weeds also. Then I read on another forum That someone was having a problem with vibration with their's. I thought that I had felt some too so I switched back. The more I think about it I thinking it could have been caused by the weeds. I am going to put it back on when I go to the lake this week & run it thru it's paces again. I hope I am wrong about the vibration because that was a great improvement over the stock prop.
  17. Does anyone know of a product that repairs the scratches on the non-glare feature on the screen of a gps? Thanks
  18. WOW & I though marking an X on the side of my boat was high tech.
  19. Go to a auto parts store an get a cable with a lug on both ends & use those for your series cables. It will make a much better connection & less of a voltage drop.
  20. I had the same thing happen on my Ranger. When I took it to the dealer they knew exactly what it was. It was the Trim switch on the bow of the boat. They changed it & I have not had a problem since.
  21. Does anyone know what can be used to remove scratches from from my depthfinder screen? thanks
  22. I thought Kipawa was making the props for Motor Guide & could not sell those any longer you have to buy them thru motor guide, but are still making & selling the ones for Minn Kota trolling motors.
  23. I would not give anyone I did not know very well any kind of power of attorney. Ask your bank about it, they might be able to help you. If not I would ask an attorney.
  24. I have had mine for about 3 years now & love them. They work Great.
  25. Was the set up for the trolling motor a factory install? If so you might of had a loose connection causing high heat. If not the wire between the battery & trolling motor plug might be to small. I have 50 amp breakers on mine but they were factory rigged. The circuit breaker is to protect your equipment so if you put one in there that is to big you are defeating the purpose. Another thing to check is when it stops pull it up & see if the motor is hot to the touch. You could have a bad motor.
