150 xr-6 vs. yamaha v-max 175
It's not worth the couple of mph you will get. You have a good engine now.

Books on Bass
If you print out the fishing articles that interest you from this site & a few of the other sites you will have your book. Many of these articles are excellent & not selling something. It should keep you busy for a while. As for me I get to fish all year as we don't have severe winters, hot summers but not to bad winters.

For the last 4 years I went at least 200 days per year & I should do that again this year.

Trolling motor recommendations
I have had both Motor Guide & Minn Kota trolling motors. I like the Minn Kota better. It's not as hard on your batteries. I would also get the most thrust I could afford. It is always better to have to much than not enough.

My Formula For Success
R/W this is a good post but disagree about the reel being more important than the rod. Before you can fight the fish you must hook it & to do that you must feel it. To do this a good line & a good sensitive rod is a must. There are many days where the bite is very, very soft. After the hook set the rod must be powerful enough to turn his head away from the cover. Now you need a good reel with an excellent drag.

Anyone use nail polish??
Beaware doing this will change the design action of the bait. I am not saying that it's not a good thing, just making you aware of that. I f I had a bait that is catching fish I would not do anything with that one.

Braided line
I have switched from Power Pro to Yo-Zuri ultra soft on my spinning gear. I use Yo-Zuri hybrid on my bait casting gear. I did not like the braided line.

$200-$250 to spend on fishfinder
I did not have a problem either, I called to make sure I was interfacing my depthfinder to my chartplotter correctly. I am sure all brands will have some units that will have problems, but most likely most of their calls are on the operation of the unit. It's like I said I have a friend who is fed up & I have read a lot of post's that are complaining about Lowrance's customer service & I was passing that on. I could not tell you if a Garmin is a better unit than a Lowrance because I have never owned a lowrance. What I did say was I was happy with my units & good luck with your choice.

$200-$250 to spend on fishfinder
I have a friend who is fed up with lowrance's customer service. I have also seen a lot of people posting complaints about their customer service on the net. I would be very careful. I have had Garmin 240's & up graded to the 250C. I have used their customer service & it was excellent. I am very satisified with their product & service. Good luck on your choice.

Abandoning Lowrance
I use Garmin products & they have great service. They will answer all you questions.

How to read depth finder?
I bet the trolling motor is a Minn Kota & there is a flasher mounted on the bow.

Fishing a drop-off
I have installed a GPS/Depthfinder on my bow. I lay out my drops in the routes section. When I fish that drop I pull it up on my routes & follow the cursor. It's better than sliced bread.

Looks like you already found out what you needed to know. I asked around this morning & was told they are excellent boats & that they are bay boats.

Garmin Fishfinders/GPS units
In 2002 I bought a 2002 Ranger That had 2 Garmin 240's & a 176 GPS I would not have traded except for another Garmin. I now have a garmin 178C on the trolling motor & a 2006C plus a 250C on the console. THese are great units & i would no others.

Rod tip UP vs. Rod tip DOWN
I agree with R/W but when the fish heads for the surface get the slack out & the tip down. It helps to keep the fish from jumping. When he is out of the water your line has slack in it & he might shake your bait loose.

Trolling Motor Wiring Question
You did not say how big the trolling motor was but I would 6 gauge wire. A marine supply store will carry the size plug you need. I also saw them in the BPS.catalog.
