The Pflueger Summit WLP has a 30" line pick-up & is 7.1:1. BPS sells it for 159.95. GinRin had Shimano Speedmasters 7.1:1 for $146. he is out now just keep an eye on his site

If that is all you are going to use the reel for, get the 5.2:1. If you want to use for other applications also keep it but just retrieve your crankbaits slower.

I have 3 or 4 that I use when fishing in the cypress tree's. I have 2 M/H that I fish plastic's on.

I had one on a minn kota, It was great at first but after a couple of months of heavy useage my trolling started to vibrate. I switch back to the stock prop & the vibration went away. I check the prop over good good & it looked fine so I put it back on to try it again. It still had the vibration, the higher the speed the worse it got. I took it back off & am now using the stock prop. I don't think it fit on the motor shaft quite right.

You said you just started using Senko's a few months ago. When you use that bait make sure you hook is in the center of the bait other wise when you reel it in to re-cast it will roll & your line will twist.

I have used Yo-Zuri Hybrid & Ultra soft & Gamma. I have never used the Suffix. Of the 3 I like the ultra soft the best. The Hybrid will get kinks in it & the Gamma has a tad more memory than the Ultra Soft.

Just because a rod is light does make it good or bad. What makes one rod better than another is the strain rate & modulus of the blank. The higher the strain rate & modulus the more responsive & sensitive & the lighter the blank. With this comes a greater cost. Loomis rods have several blancks at different price points because of the design of the blank. So if you are trying to compare a GLX to the oter blank it's like comparing a apple to a orange. There are only 2 or 3 blanks that I now of that compare to the GLX. For a rod built of that quality it will be in the $300 plus range. I do not own or have ever used either of the rods mentioned my point is in the very 1st sentence.

I have been using it for a good while. I also use it mostly when the water temp. is lower(fall & winter). I am sure it would work anytime you fish a c-rig though.

I bought 5 Shimano Bantam Magnumlite 2001 Gt Plus in 1976. They are still in excellent condition. As of 12/01/06 I had 23 or 24 Shimano reels counting casting & spinning reels. The came the Bait Monkey. For the year 2007 I'll be fishing with 6 Scorpion 1001 MG's. 3 Antares AR, 1 Speedmaster, 1 Quickfire & I recieved my last one today. It's a Antares DC.

Al : a couple of years ago I had 2 of those rods. They had extra fast tips & I used them for fishing plastic's. They were a good rod for that application. I had Shimano Curado's on them, CU 201. So if were me I would go with the high speed to get him in the boat after the hook up.

I don't think any med rod is heavy enough for buzzbaits. You would need a M/H to Heavy for that bait. Like R/W said you have a good crank bait rod now.

I was just about ready to buy a Shimano Antraes DC-7(Calais) & they were out of stock so I bought 2 Antraes AR's (Calais). These reels are very smooth & will get a work out in less than a month. Raul's pet, The Bait Monkey wispered in my ear today, they are back in stock. I am tempeted but need another reel like a hole in the head. I have somewhere between 35 & 40 now. :-/

The terms "low end" "mid-range" and "high end" are common terms seen in magazines, interviews, and forum discussions. While it's true, that an outstanding angler with a crappy rod will outfish a crappy angler with a high end rod, if you think your Walmart special is as good as a Loomis GLX "except for the name" than what you are really saying is that you know absolutely nothing about fishing rods. Stick around. This is an outstanding forum. We kid around for sure, and opinions do differ, but rarely does anyone approach a question with harsh intentions. R/W I don't know if I can think right now. The Curator for the Mexican High End Japanese Reel Musem sent the bait monkey to my house. Six reels later I am in shock. Maybe I'll recover by next year.

Holy Cow Batman, they sure are pricy for a reel handle I am glad they are out of stock for now. The bait monkey got me for 4 scorpion mg1001 & 2 Antraes AR left-handed this week. I'll have to choke that up next month. Somebody shoot that bait monkey.

What is wrong with the depthfinders that you have now? It might be that they are not set up right, x-ducer in wrong location etc. Might be very fixable.

Jetsprint2: Which site did you get the handles for the scorpion mg1001 from? Did it make a difference in the weight of the reel? I need 6 of them. Thanks SC Bassin
