  1. I am with Jetsprint2 on this I would order it. ABU Garica is a 1st rate company.
  2. Catt. The bait monkey just fell out of the tree he was laughing so hard. You save good money on the 1st. set up but now he has got you hooked for set up 2 & 3 etc, etc. Our only chance is if the lion got him when he hit the ground laughing.
  3. On the sound advice from the "Curator of the Mexican High-End Japanese Reel Museum" I started to purchase 2 reels. Then the bait monkey jumped in & I ended up buying 6 reels. Spent way to much. Darn Bait Monkey!! Yesterday I went to my son's home in Columbia SC to see what Santa brought the grandkids. Well when I go in my grandson comes running to me with this big monkey. I tried to talk him out of it all day but he would not give it up. He told me I could get one at target. So now that I know where the Bait Monkey lives I am going to get him & put him right next to my computer so I can smack him every time he tries to get nme.
  4. If it were me I would get a Shimano Castasic. It is designed for pitching & flipping. It does not have the 7.1:1 gear ratio but is plenty fast enought. just my .02 worth.
  5. Don't you think your asking for a bit much????
  6. I almost bought one today. I was on e-bay looking at what each seller had to say about the reel. one of them said that the 06 model was designed so you could pitch also. They all talk about the brakeing system but he was the only one that mentioned that. he said Shimano had improved the curve so it would not backlash while pitching. Ginrin Peche had the best price but little info on the product. On his Shimano Scorpion mg he does not state if they are new or used or rebuilt. His price is way lower than the rest. I saw Raul's reason for that on another thread but I wonder. Brooklyn Bill has the same write up for the DC & DC-7 at at the same price, that really got me to wonder. so I stopped & came to y'all to see if someone knew or where I could find out, when the DC-7 came out? If it was before 06 was there an up-grade? If all the DC-7's are the same then I'll look for best price, If they are not then I'll look for the latest upgrade. Thanks
  7. Wow!!!! Curator of the Mexican high end Japanese Reel Museum. No wonder Raul has all the answers when it comes to the Japanese products. Raul thanks for your help you do an excllent job with your answers to the many questions sent your way. R/W I have to know if there is a tour of the Museum from one of the resorts down there?
  8. Wait a minute, I am left handed & cast with my right hand & crank with my left. I must have went to lunch during that lesson.
  9. What Rules? I belive it's your personal preference & what you can afford. I prefer graphite over glass due to the weight. Now a days you can get a thin wall graphite rod that has plenty of forgiveness so that you will no problem fishing a crank bait. It will cost more than a glass rod but if you fish crank baits a lot it's probley worth it. One of my crank bait rigs weighs less than 10 oz. It will not wear me out.
  10. For crank baits I like a rod that a lot of forgiveness, I use a MMF rod. I can't tell you about a St Croix rod as I don't have any.
  11. Raul, who do you deal with in Japan?
  12. If he already likes the Redbone rod get a redbone casting rod. If you want something different go with the Shimano Compre. They are both very good rods in that price range. If you choose the Redbone get a med. light & in the Compre a med. Either one of those rods will do the trick.
  13. I fish by myself most of the time. In the winter I put on a pair of boots , walk in the water, unhook the strap, climb in the boat & back it off the trailer. Tie it up, go park the truck & trailer, put my sneakers on & go fishing. I do the reverse when I load.
  14. I am thinking of getting a Shimano Antares DC for my Christmas present. The instructions will be in Japanese so I am wondering if anyone has one. If so was it hard to set up? Thanks.
  15. Jetsprint2 I own 2 of them & when I saw that on E-bay I bought 2 more. They will be here tomorrow. They are great reels.

I bought several L/C LVR's D-7's & Mini's yesterday. I did not run into a deal & was hoping I had a check today. They work this time of year so use them.
  17. I can say S H I M A N O, but I can also say P F L U E G E R. I own 5 Shimano Bantam Magnumlite 2001GT that I bought in 1974@ $85 each. I aso own 6 Shimano Bantam Curado's (Green 201 series, super tuned), 4 Shimano Scorpion 1001 mg 50's, 6 Shimano spinning reels 2 Stradic's & 1 Stella, 3 Custom X 2000GT's. On the Pflueger side I have 4 Presidents (WLPL) & 3 Supremes (LPL). I keep them cleaned & oiled & can say I have never had any trouble with any of them. I have caught big fish on both brands without any problem's. If I could only have 1 it would be a Scorpion because of the weight. my 2nd choice would be a Supreme. I think it's a fine reel. I just pick up a couple of Pflueger Summit's from the wholesaler for a couple of my fishing buddies & if they had a left handed model I would have one. So depending on what price range & gear ratio you are looking for. I would choose 1 of the following, Scorpion, Supreme, Summit, those 3 have 2 brake systems. On the spinning reel side it's the Stella but at a lesser price it would be an Okuma VS series of which I own 2. No matter which reel you choose keep it cleaned & oiled & it will treat you right.
  18. I know several people that don't like hook keepers. They fish with one hand forward of the reel with the line laying between their index finger & thumb. The hook keeper is in the way in this case. They say with your line laying over your index finger you will feel the fish much sooner.
  19. I use to have the same rod & never had a problem with the hook set. It's not the rod. I am with the others the fish is picking it up by the tail, probley a small pan fish.
  20. I agree with K-Mac, Reel Mech is very helpful to the members of this forum & if I was looking for a custom rod he would be on my list to talk to, after all we know him look how long he has been here & he is stright up with his answers. If you are looking for a cheap custom rod buy a good rod off the rack you will be happier. To build a custom rod is labor intensive so they are a little pricy. If you are going to have a rod built use a good quality blank & parts you will be very happy, remember you get what you pay for.
  21. Look at the Okuma VS series they are great reels at a fair price.
  22. With a cable run that long I would use 6 ga. wire. The wire size could very well be your problem.
  23. I went to BPS yesterday to buy several items, one of them being a life jacket. I wanted to purchase the inflatable type but did not have a clue as to which one. I was back looking at the reels & I asked the salesman if he new much about the life jackets. He took me to someone who did & he took the time to explain each type they had. He recommended the Automatic/Manual kind. He showed the one he has & said that it was the best bang for the buck. It is the Sospenders Sport Series(sport 24 model) for $119.99. This model provides in excess of 25 lbs of buoyancy will turn some people from face down to face up. The world class models provide 35 lbs of buoyancy & will turn most people from face down to face up when inflated. He also told me to put the switch in the manual position when storing to prevent it from inflating if it gets wet while stored. I fish by myself most of the time & plan on wearing it while in the act of fishing. When the outboard is running I am going to wear my 100 mph one because of the neck protection.
  24. I have 2 of the V-40's. They are super smooth. They also have a 5 year warranty. You will not go wrong by owning one.
  25. I own both. I have no problems & I use them 3 or 4 days a week. I like the Supreme a little better because it's lighter & has the external spool control.
