  1. I started an experiment this season with an 8' MH Phenix Recon2, a Daiwa Zillion HSLA with a 100m spool and 30lb braid for Chatterbaits, Swimjigs, Spinnerbaits. I wanted to see if: The 8' really make a difference in casting distance over a 7'-7'6" rod. That using a longer rod, that I would pull the baits away from the fish less often (softer tip). If using a longer rod would allow me to catch up to the hits from behind the bait that push slack into the line. So far distance wise it's MAYBE 10' longer (not enough to run out and buy a $200 rod). Accuracy is the same for me whether it's 7' or 8'. Missed fish due to the "pushing" of the bait... That I can see that there is a difference in that I can catch up to them better. Pulling the bait away... seems to help a little. I really like the set up and will keep tweaking it, for now I'd say it's a success.
  2. My Tatulas are close to a Champ, better than any Sierra or Savy, blows the Fury out of the water. (I have 2 Dobyns Pro_staffer buddies, I have owned and fished a ton of their rods.) What size Stratic do you have?
  3. Give it a shot first, but yeah it's a good rod for that stuff.
  4. My understanding is: The Cronos are HVF blanks The OG Tat is SVF. The Zillion and the OG Tat have the same blanks. The Tat Elite is SVF graphite, etc with a different resin. Regular tatulas are available for $100ish all over, they are awesome at that price.
  5. What trailer? a 4.8 Keitech is .4oz. That 3/8oz jig and a trailer quickly gets close to 3/4-1 oz. I had a 734 Champion and it was too light for me to throw a swimjig of that size. My 735 Fury works, I am in love with the 7'2" Daiwa Tatula MHR for that sort of bait.
  6. Fish will be swimming. Hortonia is a prototypical largemouth pond. Frogs, flipping, weedless swimbaits and senkos. Bomo should be the same in the shallows. Smallmouth will have moved out deep, dropshot and Carolina Rigs for them. Ti are of Champlain should be the same as Hortonia.
  7. Cowboys fans fish for Trout...
  8. My Typhoons (no idea what model) are in the lake... any big heads out there with suggestions for sunglasses? Preferably with room for a shnoze that's been broken a couple times. Thanks all
  9. Academy has 4 3700's for $10.
  10. Pads will be few and far between at that time, weeds should be around. Weeds in the lake in general this year will be a little goofy. 2 years ago it was average, still recovering from 2011 floods. Last year was nearly record low, so a lot of what were weedbeds were dry land. Weed beds were further from shore than normal. Now we are back up to slightly higher than average. Down in ti where the water doesn't let a lot of light penetrate, the weeds at least early on might be a bit behind. They are chomping down there now.
  11. I have the same issue and mine appears to be electrical, So I am chasing that gremlin...
  12. You checked all the oil sensors too? Pump working?
  13. If Shimano is out of them at the warehouse that's one thing, but to say they CAN'T order it is BS... That's like saying they can't get a spool of Trilene. It's a $100 price point rod that is probably available from several distributers.
  14. Canned Heineken, no skunk, pretty darn close to draft flavor, lower ABV. I live in the land of milk and honey beerwise (Founders, Alchemist, 14th Star, Lawson's, Hill Farmstead, Rock Art, Switchback, and Fiddlehead to name a few) and reach for a Heinie when I need to be even close to responsible.
  15. 3" Swing Impact or Fluke
  16. Keep an eye pealed for the EchoMAP 73 SV model going on sale around $500 as well from time to time.
  17. Mojo style or tungsten barrels. 1/2-1oz
  18. No, there's current involved the second you stop moving the bait, the bow gets created. I throw 4-6ft leaders.
  19. Shore is pretty mich limited to the access area. There are pike around there. Water is 39-43 there now, should be a bit higher after the rain and sun. If you can get 20 minutes north to Colchester and walk the causeway http://colchestervt.gov/358/Causeway-5K-15K-Race You can get a great walk in and get green bass, brown bass, pike, lakers and even salmon just walking and tossing jerkbaits.
  20. Please dont go braid, especially with an XF rod. You run Dobyns? A 735 with 16-20 lb fluoro and whatever reel should suit you. Mono leaders (15lb big game). I rig a lot... lot lot lot lot, I run a Lamiglas 735 with 20lb Abrazx and 15lb mono leader. ☆Use a REGULAR offset hook on a zoom Speedcraw in green pumpkin magic. That hook prevents the hook from rolling over when a bass tries to pin it on the bottom. ☆Braid bows in the water and you spend a lot of the hookset pulling slack, or not feeling the smushy bite. ☆Look into mojo or phenix finesse weights.
  21. If you don't see what you are looking for on their website, message them. They've got lots of unadvertised stuff.
  22. Aren't Veritas all 2 piece rods. the blank and the handle are spliced together about 6" above the lock nut?
  23. Yellow or Black regular Crasher for me. I did get the whole like of Frogs and Mice from Savage Gear to try out this summer.
