  1. August 3rd 2013. In the middle of Missisquoi Bay on Lake Champlain, about 130pm. Tournament sucked. Wife called and told me my dog had just died. Sat in the back of the boat for a moment and cried, and talked to her. About 15 minutes later a huge hail storm hit, by the time I got my rain gear on, it stopped. I was wet and hot... 240 pm trying to get back to the launch another hail storm. I'm sad, wet, hot, and sore. Got home at 500 to realize I had left my phone and wallet in the boat and they were at my boater's house, across the county... Wife stops me before I go to get them and tells me she needs to tell me something... greaaaaat... About 10 minutes after she and I spoke about my dog, my step mother called and gave her the news that my father had 10 months to 2 years to live, his cancer had returned... I'm tearing up writing this. That my friends is a bad day of fishing.
  2. BG, I sent you a pm. Hope it helps.
  3. Check if Raponda has a launch, good fish there. Connecticut River and it's set back in Brattleboro have great bass fishing. If you're cool with a mixed bag of fish and smaller bass, Harriman will work.
  4. Walking out of that place was like the end of Platoon.
  5. The place has a lot of current and the map is not terribly accurate. So finding them consistently is tough. Oh and snagging bottom is irritatingly common.
  6. Rock Bass for days... Smallies (of any quality) are active in the spring then sort of disappear in summer.
  7. Peacham pond Lake Iroquois shelburne, Bristol, and monkton ponds Waterbury res. Curtis pond hosmer Green river res. Winooski river from IBM to Champlain. Seymour Champlain Memphramagog Connecticut river Don't fish with Nate, it hurts... I wouldn't eat any of the bass from these waters, plenty of Nate's children to catch and eat (stocked trout).
  8. Looks cool but $6 for two 1oz. weights is nuts.
  9. The Tierra and Exceler that's on sale are great choices. I love my Tierra.
  10. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/tournament-choice-deluxe-tackle-bag/pid-856003?color=Green+Dark+01&N=97010236+10001 This thing is the deal! Comes with 6 3600 boxes but can hold 8 plus a 3500 in the front. The side pockets can be filled with leaders, scents, spools, tools. Compact and holds everything you could possibly need. A Bac Rac for your rods CAN be handy IF the rear hatch isn't too narrow or have curved sides. Keeps the rods (hooks) away from the boater's seats and really keeps the lines from tangling. A rod sock over your Carolina Rig rod will save the rod a ton of abuse.
  11. It's sort of the standard for all braids. It's not the best or sexiest, but its solid, cheap, easy to find, and has no glaring weaknesses. For general purpose on a baitcaster start with 30 lb. Spinning go 15 or 20lbs. Think nasty stuff, go 50lbs. (Assuming the rod is rated for it.)
  12. Check your local Dicks, they've got Pointer 78 & 100 models in certain colors for $10.97 in the clearance section PLUS buy one get one for free clearance... So it's 2 for $10.97! I bought 8 Pointer 100's to replace what the Northerns ate this spring.
  13. Oh does it! Carolina Rig the small ones for smallies. Try it on a chatterbait too.
  14. Carolina Rig deep rocks, even better if there is a weed bed nearby.
  15. Yeah come to think of it, the toilet flush of a 5 pounder is pretty cool.
  16. Daiwa Jupiter/Aird medium power models are great crank/treble rods. Wal-Mart has Jupiters for $30 in some stores.
  17. I think it's a function of how big the Bass is.
  18. I know I'm not in this month, but... 19.94 bag today out of southern Lake Champlain. 5.46 (lunker) & 4.75.
  19. Maybe the drag is dirty/greasy/wet? I have had Daiwa's that had a drag rating in ounces, they were so light, and they came that way out of the box. I took them apart and cleaned them and they were much better. Check if the Lexa Drag will fit, it has 25% more power. I'd clean it all up first and give it a go again.
  20. RAYJUS has been awesome.
  21. 2/0 1/8oz Screw-Lock I went by what the Keitech website recommended and it has worked best.
  22. I use 1/2-3/4 oz on Champlain (clear and rocky in most good smallie spots) in water 4' to 40' depending on wind and current.
  23. The one problem with them (or SPRO/Jackall/Megabass) for me is I live in Pike County... And losing them hurts.
  24. I have a 766 Recon, 715 Recon2 (replaced Recon) and a 714 Recon2 (replaced Recon). The difference between the Gen 1 and 2 is some slight cosmetics and they are slightly more powerful. The 715 is a "Heavy" according to Phenix and to me feels like a slightly more moderate St. Croix Avid 70MHF, if you are familiar with that rod, just imagine a bit softer tip and lighter weight. The 714 is what you could call a "heavy medium" and very versitile. The 766 is an awesome frog/flipping/swimbait rod, for ME, it is not a pool que, I'd say a Powell 765 has more power. If I were to label the Recon's action I'd call it a Fast Moderate Fast. If I took my Recon2 715 and my Avid 70MHF I could do all the things with my Recon2 that I can with the Avid, but I also could throw some bigger treble baits with the Recon2 that I really couldn't do effectively with the Avid (BIG spooks, Shellcrackers, Big Pencil Poppers).
