  1. Berkley just introduced a S.I.F. knock off (Rib Shad, in the new items section at TW). I just got some Kicker Fish Tail Slappers (conveniently listed next to the S.I.F. at TW). They look identical, are a bit firmer, no stink. Going to see how they work as soon as Vermont melts. PS I've heard good things about the Gambler mentioned above.
  2. TW T-shirts make up a significant % of your total clothes. Have enough of the litte TW boxes thrown in the corner that you can build an igloo.
  3. Funny I own Daiwa 3:1 over everyone else. The MGX is meant to complete with finesse models out there Core 50, T3, etc. It is not as good as an 8 year old Daiwa Sol imho. Chronarch is meant to be an all around reel.
  4. For a short time, didn't work ~$200 better than my Curado. That guy sold it soon after.
  5. I was this close to posting that clip. I think the Liger is to a Zillion what a Miyata is to an MG.
  6. I think the bearing thing was a goof up in the translation from japanese to english in the instructions (Bantam1 addressed it as such over on TT). I felt played with one at a show Saturday and it feels really really nice, solid, not the much of a help. I'd go with one of those hands down over the MGX.
  7. http://www.glvint.com/index.html These guys build a TON of the rods in our rod lockers http://www.doyofishing.co.kr/goods/theme.php?code=2 Who wants a rainbow colored Lews? Primetime, I enjoyed your post, thanks.
  8. Try the Rage Tail Shrimp. Trust me...
  9. You can get some of their popular dropshot baits at Dick's and their soft and hard baits at BPS. Satsuke Craw, Crosstalk Shad, iShad are good softbaits. The Boil Trigger popper is a great smaller bait. Shimano is their importer.
  10. I have one (Super Spook, not the Junior one) with an orange stripe. Just get some orange nail polish and add a stripe. That's my #1 color for top waters.
  11. I don't think it's the cover/magnets that need to change, it's the spool. The magnets are in their own part that just bolts/screws to the sideplate. For reference: The original Daiwa Viento was regular Magforce. The Daiwa Smak was a very similar reel with Centrifugal brakes. Today the Viento is still available in Europe, using Magforce Z. All are basically the same real with differnet brakes. Daiwa produces x # of Lexas or Excelers and HOPES to sell them (IE set a higher retail to cover the cost/risk of sitting on stock that doesn't sell well). Cabelas asks for y # of Prodigys, to Daiwa those are ALREADY sold when they are put into production, so their cost is lower and Cabelas can charge what they want. I hope that makes as much sense as it does in my head.
  12. Hijacking like the Palestinians in the 1970's... well done!
  13. What's the difference (serious question) between the Lexa and Exceler? Color, a bearing and... side plate?
  14. Didn't even notice the composite frame (duh) on the second. The first ones spool profile looks like my Lexa's. (Deleted)
  15. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Home/Cabelas-Reels%7C/pc/105625080/c/508746780/Cabelas-Prodigyreg-Baitcasting-Reel/1749495.uts?destination=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D508746780%26WTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104793480&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104793480%3Bcat508746780 A white Lexa with Magforce Z.... $100. So maybe the girlfriend was already looking for a reason to leave and cabelas was a convenient reason to end it... but... those sure are serious competition for the Pro Qualifier. (Deleted other reel I posted)
  16. Excel II's are now a one year warranty. (just a heads up)
  17. Buy your line according to diameter, not by pound test. Some Japanese manufactures (Sunline Super Natural) have 12lb test that is the diameter of 8lb Trilene XL. Conversely another company's 10lb test (P-Line CXX) is the same diameter as 14lb Trilene XL. Just watch the diameter... You did good with Siege, I like that stuff.
  18. Sorry for the delay in posting the pix. They make the rod look very purple and it's not, I included a picture of what the blue really looks like (the Audi picture). After a bit more fondling I found some cool little touches. The winding check for the rear of the grip and the butt are rubber, the others are all aluminum. I like the softer materials used in areas where my hands would go. I love the hook keeper they use (small, on the bottom of the blank, and no moving pieces). Blank is straight and guides were aligned perfectly.
  19. 3.8 & 4.8" Keitech S I FAT.
  20. Got home this evening and it was on the front steps. First impression: Nice rod, finish work is good. Color is pretty cool, nice understated pastel navy blue (you'll see). From a distance it's a slate black. Grip diameter is pretty small for my paws. A bit tip heavy with Daiwa T3B (7.5oz) felt way better with my Zillion (8+ oz), which makes sense with a 7'3" rod with no foregrip and a split rear grip. Going to be my dedicated Carolina Rig rod, so the tip heaviness isn't really a concern. I'll post the pix in the AM.
  21. The Excel II became available ~12/22/13 and VERY limited availability at that point. The actions have stiffened up a bit from the previous Excels. I have an Excel II (735) on it's way, I'll be glad to post about it when I get it.
  22. Get a faster rod Wait for the "double tap" then... Set the hook (horizontally ending with a slight up swing). The double tap is always a Bass, single tap and you either set the hook to early on the bass or you set it on a pickrel or pike.
  23. Keep one of each and sell the others, they should net you enough to then buy reels for the 2 you kept and boom!!!! Half your arsenal is filled. The Rosewoods are really nice rods and should you want to sell, they should get good $ pretty fast. Gear Ratios Cranks (pretty personal...) anything around 5:1 is sort of a guideline. Some will say 2:1 other say they deep crank on 100:1 reels, it is really pretty personal, but starting with a 5ish:1 is what most people do. Spinnerbaits go with anything 6+:1.
