Dual Braking Baitcast Reels Question
The best of both worlds is obviously having both as they work in concert with each other. I’ve found that a person’s casting style has a lot to do with how they benefit from each other. In my case all my reels have either centrifugal alone or both. I just can’t be effective or efficient with just magnetic brakes. If I’m gonna back lash it’s at the beginning as I’m controlling the cast with my thumb throughout the entire motion and landing. For me magnetic alone is useless and a non factor Mike

Tournament Angler Dies in Boat Crash, 3 Others Hospitalized.
Yeah That’s what brought it to mind. Happens a lot more than people think when being safe takes a back seat to runnin and gunnin. Very Sad Mike

Tournament Angler Dies in Boat Crash, 3 Others Hospitalized.
Terrible Seems like every year something like this happens somewhere. The majority of the time, down here at least someone would be running a boat lane wide open through a reed field no wider than the boat itself. They lose control going into a curve, or not slowing enough when another approach’s head on and not having enough room to pull to the side, or even running into someone who’s stationary who suddenly appears. I’ve been in the boat basin area of Seminole a few times and there are boat lanes that criss cross each other all around there as you approach it. Reeds will be 4ft above the boat and you can’t see anything. Of course I’m not saying that’s what happened, just bringing to mind one of the dangers that can cause this. Don’t ask how I know Mike

When do you give up on a cast?
If pitching which is what I do 70%-80% of the time , I’ll work a specific spot by dropping, dead stick a bit, move, shake and repeat about 1/2 way back. Make another about 10 ft over and continue that way until I feel that area has been covered. When flipping I’ll do a variation but move no more than about 3ft at a time. The weight used and speed of it all is dictated by water clarity and cover. Mike

Wow! So glad you’re better now. Sorry you had to go through all that but grateful you’re on the road to recovery. God Bless Mike

How do you identify which line is on your reels?
I write it on a piece of paper and put it in my bag. If I forget, I look at it. Mike

What has changed so much in 70 years to reduce my daily catches from hundreds ?
I said about the same thing a ways back and it didn’t go well. Exactly right. I guess the biggest and best lesson I’ve learned in all the years of fishing is honing the ability to Improvise, Overcome and Adapt to every possible change happening. Shortcuts, stubbornness and trying to force feed a fish never made for success. The willingness to “listen” and then act accordingly to what a fish is “telling” you is the only way to be successful no matter what you experience. Mike

Braid for topwater/weightless plastics?
I use a fairly soft action MH rated rod with 30# braid for everything on top except frogs, those get 50#. Everything else except punching is straight flouro, no leaders ever. Mike

Fluro palomar knot - why does it keep breaking off
Yep You guys are right of course and I’m sure it’s the correct way to do it. Now that you mention it, it does scape but been doing it so long with no particular problem I never gave it any thought. Mike

Fluro palomar knot - why does it keep breaking off
When tying a palomar I always snug by pulling the main line watching that it goes nice and even. Then use the tag to tighten only. Saves a lot of line. Mike

Fluro palomar knot - why does it keep breaking off
I only use a Palomar for braid. I use the SDJ fir all flouro which I use almost exclusively and can honestly say its never broke at the knot. I played around with the knot above and it holds just as well. Mike

Bed time?
Interesting, never heard of that. ? Mike
-
Bed time?
I’m in bed at 10 every night. But like @Catt because of 2 fusions I can’t lay, sit or stand longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Doesn’t really matter tho, as nowadays nature calls about those times anyway. Mike

Am I nuts buying Tatsu ?
When this post first came I said to myself “ don’t even follow it, you know what’s gonna happen” But…I couldn’t help myself in the end. Then when it got somewhat personal and posts started to take a turn that would normally get it closed and it didn’t, then I knew I made a mistake. We are passionate people, we know what we like and don’t. In time all the experimentation stops and the honing of our craft and /or hobby takes over. We either seek advice or validation. No other subject on here gets as much play. But like I said, it won’t ever end. Mike

Why do you fish?
The tap, the pull, the jump, the sense of victory, and after all that the relief that it swims away. Mike

Am I nuts buying Tatsu ?
We do this all the time… First it was which brand is better, then it morph’s into the merits of the overall product itself. It’s never gonna end. Mike
