Braid ( Sufix 50 for me ) with a 20 lbs fluoro leader. This formula works for me.

Question for those who owns a kistler.
I have an LTA ML 6.6 paired with Alpha F, I use it for small cranks and jerks. I have no complain, my best fish on it was a 3 1/2 lbs that a lipped without problems. It is a great rod for what I use it and I love the handle.

My disgust with Shimano
Just don't buy Shimanos. I don't have any personal experience with their reel support but I know a bit about rods CS response on Crucial rods.....and I rather buy a rod with Megabass warranty, Shimano is just an step lower. Deplorable.

Curado Jig/Worm Reel Whats Best???
None of the above..... TD-Z or STX

Preferred Line for Crankbaits
For shallow cranks I use P-Line CX or Evolution 10-12lbs. Now for deep cranking ( > 15 f ) I switch to P-Line fluoro or Halo 15 lbs.

The Premier will have a different handle, lighter but with no ball bearings. I just got my Revo Crazy Cranker 4.9:1 and I can't wait to get it wet. I have been waiting for a good lefty low speed reel for a long time. Probably udgrade it first.

Wacky senko hook holding help
I use the O-ring for anything I rig wacky, lure last longer and action is better. I get mine from Ebay and a Senko tool is very helpful, you can buy it or just make it using the end of a normal pen as long as it has conic shape, add and screw at the end to hold your spare rings. The ring is easier and faster than using surgical tubing. http://cgi.ebay.com/200-O-rings-Senko-Bass-Fishing-Lure-Senkos-Bait-O-ring_W0QQitemZ220109688708QQihZ012QQcategoryZ31693QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

FINESSE FISHING WITH BAITCASTERS
I go 50/50. Soft plastics and jigs with spinning. SJR722/ Energy PT-i and Sufix 15 with 8 lbs leader. Hard plastic with baitcaster. Kistler LTA ML 6.6 with Daiwa Alpha F ( supertunned ) and Gamma 10 lbs.

switching to braid....
If you are using a line that is heavier than the rating of your rod ( I use 50-65 lbs ) you are risking your rod to overload and breakage, specially during hook set. A mono/fluoro leader of the appropriate rating is your safety valve.

Looking for custom rod builder
I have seen pics of ReelMech rods and they look phenomenal, he has some for sale at his web page frecuently and in my expirience from working on my reels, no one can ask for a better service. This builder made 4 rods for me on 2004-5. I'm very satisfied with him. I have two friends who also use him and I know he has done some rods for the Tackle Tour team that are use in reels and lures testing. http://www.georgescustomrods.com/index.html Good luck

kistler rods ?
Great pics Lightninrod.....specially the last one ;D

switching to braid....
My favorite braid is Sufix, 30 -65 lbs. Always backing mono, around 1/4 of the spool and always mono or fluoro leader ( for rod protection ).

Abu Garcia Revo STX
1.) Is the Revo STX-HS a good reel for the money? Excellent. 2.) Is there a better reel I can buy instead for the same price or less? Matter of opinions. I don't think you can find a better High Speed. 3.) I've always used a round reel never used a low-profile reel, are the low profiles just as durable as the round? It is always time to move on ( or move up ;D ) 4.) What kind of rod should I look for, for this reel? Budget dependent. I hope it helps.

upgrading ballbearings
I have upgraded the spool support BB in all my reels and yes they do make a difference in castability, distance. I have done it for Shimanos, Daiwas and Quantums, all got better, specially the Quantums. You can easily find steel or ceramic bearings ABEC 5-7, price goes $ 5-20 each. Shimano's best stock bearings are ABEC 3. The most common are Boca, VXB, TG Rocket ( British ) and ZIP-Sic ( Japan ). I have ZIPs and TGs ( for me the best but most expensive ). If your reel is in warranty you should check with Shimano CS. http://www.bocabearings.com/ http://www.japantackle.com/Tuning_parts/tuning_bearings.htm http://heartlandtackleservice.com/bearings.stm http://www.vxb.com/. It is relatively easy but if a guy like me can do it :....anyone can This articles helped me a lot. http://www.tackletour.com/articlebearings101.html http://www.tackletour.com/articlebearings201.html http://www.tackletour.com/articlebearings301.html Good luck

Whats a cheap scale that measures lbs and oz
Agree. Mine is already 3 years old.
-
i Like Shimano
I did the same to mine and I agree with you....what a difference!!!!!. Much more evident with my lower end reel, Quantums, than with the TD-Zs. They are, by the way, the best reel ever built..... ;D

Pick one for your all your T-rig applications?
If I have to choose between the two....I prefer the MBR 844 IMX for T-rigs.
