  1. Welcome back!
  2. Some of my favorite lures have been baits I've found.
  3. I have, it's not as difficult as you'd think. I've caught fish with it and none have been over 3lbs oddly enough. Cordell use to (maybe still does), make a 1 or 1 1/4oz spot that I fished a lot at one point and caught a lot of fish with it because it sank slower than most rattle baits but had the big profile.
  4. I like the one that the fish eat. Not sharply tail down is about the only kind I won't fish.
  5. A lot of guys here see bass as baitfish ?‍♂️ It's legal as long as they're keeper size and not over the daily bag limit so nothing we can do about it but there's a pretty strong disdain between catfishermen towards bass guys it seems. Some is caused by bass guys not respecting the catfish guys space and right to the water, but some is the cat guys seem to think that since bass don't get as big, they're inferior. I fish for both and enjoy both so I don't understand it but it's there for sure.
  6. I've always maintained an open invitation to members that want to fish that they're welcome in my boat or to meet up with kayaks. Not sure why anyone would ever want to come to Kansas to fish but it's out there. Not going to put anyone on my list that I've already fished with. @everythingthatswims @Big-O @A-Jay @Further North @TnRiver46 Pros Hack Attack KVD Swindle Denny Brauer Randy Howell
  7. I wear sun gloves that do a good job protecting my thumbs while protecting my hands from UV rays. Always have the option not to lip them and just grab them around the head or body instead.
  8. I'm a fan of the Berkley Surge Shad when I'm looking for a standard sized wake bait. The MS Slammer is my favorite wake though.
  9. Might have been this one? If it wasn't, this was one of the first ones of the year. Caught on a Berkley Stunna 112+1 from Lake Taneycomo, MO.
  10. Welcome back!
  11. Wind is a way of life in KS. Learn to deal with it or take up a different hobby. 10-15mph is a gentle breeze, 20-25 is about the standard unfortunately and higher is pretty regular. I won't complain too much though because our fish don't know how to act on those rare flat calm days.
  12. Roger's Sporting Goods in Liberty, MO was great at one point but isn't nearly as good anymore. Everhart's Outdoors in Clinton, MO is really good. Bass Pro in Springfield and Memphis are both cool stores.
  13. I've done well with a Savage Gear Shine Glide 185, Chad Shad, and Savage Gear Gear Glide. My favorite smallmouth swimbait is a 5" fast sink Bull Shad though. Burn it as fast as I can reel it across points and flats and they smoke it, would probably work well in a river.
  14. 2.75" size, luminescent aurora chartreuse. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Yo-Zuri_3DS_Series_Minnow/descpage-YZDSM.html
  15. Had about 30 minutes between regular shift and OT today, but it was almost 70 degrees out so I had to try. Sucked having to take all the gear off and put street clothes on, carry it all to the truck just to make a few cast, but I caught a couple dinks and found 4 baits so I guess it's a victory. Bad thing is I have to go back with a lure retriever because I found a 75 plopper in a tree just a little too far out to reach ?‍♂️
  16. Same, haven't fished the crappie much but the shad is pretty disappointing. I really like the regular bull shads so I had pretty high hopes for that bait.
  17. I have 8lb AbrasX on a couple spinning rods, straight fluoro. Doesn't seem to stiff at all to me?
  18. I like mono or copoly for my cranks ?
  19. The one thing that I actually might change is reel speed. Since I do move towards the fish slightly on the hookset, using a reel that is slightly faster than I normally would use could help compensate for this. I typically use the same equipment whether in my kayak or in my boat though.
  20. I still have one in my box. One of the only DT's I've had that has managed to stay in 1 piece for very long.
  21. Use to go through bags of the 4" Zoom when I was a kid. Never caught anything very big with them but they caught tons of bass and sunfish.
  22. If you get one, get the larger size, but honestly I'd pass on them altogether. Same goes for the Catch Co Baby Bull Shad. If you get one of the cheaper baits, get the Catch Co Baby gill or crappie.
  23. The Nako weights are really nice and as cheap as you'll find for tungsten. Owner Cover Shot #1 or #2 are the only DS hooks I use.
