  1. How did that not break on a hookset or while fighting a fish?? ?
  2. We have reservoirs still over 30' high here.
  3. I want to see that actually penetrate a fish's mouth without bending now, I don't see it happening except maybe on a crappie or some other really thin lipped fish. Good thing is, it's shiny enough it would probably attract fish just on it's own. I guess in a survival situation, just bait it with worms or something and let them completely swallow it and hope it holds on long enough to get them on shore. Riding in the car is hard work
  4. A fit because it won't freaking stop raining!! ?

There's a new player in the big frog market. Fish Lab Rattle Toads come in big honking sizes too. Like the name says, they rattle too. Popping Pad Crasher for scale.
  6. The number of small bass of all 3 species I saw at Melvern was amazing, and they're mostly all to the size where they're going to be too large for a lot of predators to handle, and fast enough/elusive enough to evade being eaten. I would think that the same or similar scenarios would be playing out at those reservoirs as well. The Olathe mud puddle treated me well yesterday. Never seen that lake with grass in it, but there was quite a bit and the bass seemed to be enjoying it. First time I'd been on it in about 2 years and probably my best trip ever out there.
  7. I really like that Drift Walker when it's calm out like it was this morning. I don't get to fish it often because it's rarely calm enough to use it but it's been a great bait when I get the chance to throw it. Went to a little mudpuddle of a lake that I haven't been to in a couple years yesterday. It has some big ones but it just gets beat to death by the bucket brigade thanks to nearly complete shoreline access. I was greeted by good weed growth that has never been there that I'm sure are making the bank anglers pull their hair out, but the bass seem to be loving it. I caught right at 20 with a 4.22 being the biggest.
  8. Happens about every summer in the lakes and reservoirs here due to all the agriculture if there isn't a bunch of rain like we had last year. Just don't swim in it, drink it, or eat the fish and you'll be fine. I've had some great days despite blue-green algae blooms. The stuff does stink and the scum line on your boat is awful.

I had a car full of teenagers yell "You suck at fishing!" at me not too long ago. No idea why, maybe they'd been fishing and hadn't had any luck and needed to take their frustration out on someone else. I hear so much crazy stuff and get called so many things at work and because of what I do by random strangers that it doesn't faze me anymore.
  10. I filed mine and it made a huge difference in the range of motion and the glide. I used a Dremel and grinder wheel to do it. Not a fan of feathered trebles and haven't ever tried scent on them.
  11. Some of the colors of skirt material I use have a very strong smell, the fish don't seem to care.
  12. Welcome!
  13. I don't usually make dessert after I get done making dinner, but last night I was feeling fancy and made a cream cheese lemon crumble cake.
  14. If you're going to target them on purpose, use a leader. If you're after bass, it's kind of dealer's choice. The lake is pretty full of timber, so most of what I use is soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and buzzbaits along with some squarebills and other topwaters. I have never used a leader with my bass baits and never been bit off by one that I can think of but my BIL lost a sqarebill to one on one of his first cast of the day our last time there.
  15. OP was asking about the Royal Legend Elite, not the regular Royal Legend FWIW.
  16. Weird, I don't notice it on any of mine? Maybe my wife is right and I do have selective hearing ?
  17. My buddy use to get frustrated because he felt I was catching all the fish since I was getting first shot at them. He mentioned it one day while I was catching them pretty good while fighting a stiff wind. I offered to let him run it for awhile, and he happily accepted. I moved to the back and really started wearing them out since I could focus on just fishing while he did nothing but fight the trolling motor and wind. After 30 minutes he was ready to switch back. 20+ years of doing it, I run the trolling motor without even realizing I'm doing it.
  18. Too fragile and expensive for my taste, but deadly fish catchers while they're in one piece.
  19. Looks like it's supposed to be approximately 5.5' high still by Thursday and scheduled to be releasing 1000cfs. So you'll be dealing with a lake that is high but dropping slowly. I've seen some good reports for crappie but haven't heard any reports about anything else from Hillsdale. I'm getting antsy to get out there and fish it. I'm hoping the bass spawned and benefited there as much as they seem to have at Melvern.
  20. It was still electric only a few years ago when I was there last but I saw several people running their motors still.
  21. 50# is plenty for me where I deal with limited amounts of grass. If I was in Florida flipping dense grass with a 2oz weight for potentially DD fish, 80lb would possibly be something I'd look into. I would think 65 would be plenty though and would cut through vegetation easier.
  22. I was excited to see the 100 packs when I first found their websites, wish more companies offered the bulk packs like that.
  23. Before I switched to Booyah, I fished Spro. I still have this Tropical White popping frog, the black standard Spro has been retired though.
