  1. Catch a bass over 8 pounds in Kansas. I've caught bigger ones elsewhere, but I've never been able to break that mark in my home state. I've come as close at 7lbs 14ozs, caught several more over 7, caught one with plenty of length but just not enough girth (24.5"X14"), I just can't get the elusive 8.
  2. I don't know any spots either but I know that there's bass and also peacock bass. Don't know which island/s but I know they're available.
  3. Lots of fish at Gardner Tuesday morning, including my new PB for the lake.
  4. Yamamoto 4" or 5" Smoke no flake, salt and pepper, smoke red and black flake. Kalin's 4" Halogram, salt and pepper
  5. After a terrible day on the water Monday, I had to take advantage of a somewhat cool morning after I got off work today. Went to the local lake closest to our new house that I haven't fished from a boat yet this year. Caught a bunch of little ones before I finally caught a good one on a KVD Rodent off a dock ladder. Quite a few little ones later, found another Whopper Plopper (bone 110), and was just about to head to the ramp. I'd gone through all my Okeechobee craw, black and blue, and California craw KVD rodents, so I was flipping a Politician colored Big Bite Baits Yo-Momma when it got rocked right off a dock corner. Wasn't sure if I was going to swing into a cat or a big bass but no doubt it was a big fish from the bite. Turned out to be my new lake PB at 4.64, a really good fish for an extremely heavily pressured little city lake. Turned her loose and went home. As a side note, it was my first time trying the new Big Bite Baits Kamikaze Swimon bladed jig trailer and it was legit. I was afraid that it wouldn't last with the thin plastic but it was still going strong after 10+ fish and a few tail pullers. The tails kind of kick independently of each other and look really nice in the water. Every fish I caught on my homemade bladed jig choked it, so they were liking what they were seeing.
  6. I've fished with a bunch of different people but I've had a few regular fishing buddies in the past. A few have bought boats of their own and now fish in their own boats, my irregular schedule makes it difficult to line up days off, but I still have a handful of people I send the message out to first when I'm headed to the lake and have an empty seat. I've always got my 2 furballs that willing to hold down the back of the boat if nobody else wants to though.
  7. The wrong site completely, this is a family site.
  8. Last week Lake cut his foot pretty good running through our backyard but we weren't able to find what he cut his foot on. Sunday afternoon I needed to mow so I dropped the mower deck to the dirt and found it. No idea how we didn't find it sooner, but I'm really glad it was his foot and not one of their heads or faces that found it first. Why someone would leave an old 4X4 anchor in the ground is beyond me but I hope it's the only one.
  9. A local wildlife shelter recently put out a request to local fishermen for fish to help feed 2 bald eagles that they have taken in that are suffering from lead poisoning. It was a Facebook post and I got tagged in it repeatedly so I grabbed a couple ultralights, my floating bait basket, my little fishing buddy, and away we went. A couple hours at a creek later, we had about 70 bluegills and green sunfish flopping around in the basket when we pulled it and hit the road. They were very happy with our donations and Lake had a blast with nonstop action that the overaggressive panfish provide.
  10. Hybrid strippers prefer dolla dolla bills. Hybrid stripers like topwater walking baits, jerkbaits, paddle tail swimbaits, lipless baits, jigging spoons, flutter spoons, and jigging raps.
  11. X2, I 100% believe it doesn't matter, and I 100% believe I can't fish them without painting them first ?‍♂️
  12. I pour jigheads for them with wire keepers.
  13. I had my son using a trout magnet jighead with a piece of orange trout worm under a bobber on 4lb Mr. Crappie line Saturday to catch a whole bunch of bluegills and green sunfish.
  14. In clear water with calm conditions, a clear topwater can be very deadly. I like clear walking baits and also fish clear ploppers.
  15. Welcome!
  16. My dad said there was a case like that last ti.e he got hooked and went. His was a Vision 110, the first and only one my dad has ever bought. The doctor asked to keep it for the case, my dad offered to fight him for it ? I guess they'd had a guy bring in an 8lb catfish still attached to the same hook that he was hooked with the day before. Apparently people don't think to cut or remove the baits before going to hospital.
  17. Melvern has a high population of smallmouth with a decent number of fish over 15" and some reaching over 5 pounds. Shawnee has a much lower density, fewer fish over 15", but has produced several over 6 pounds to nearly 7. Perry doesn't have any free ramps that I'm aware of other than way up the Delaware. It doesn't have a great population of smallmouth but it does have some big ones. Wabaunsee has a bunch of smaller ones and has some really big ones but not many in between.
  18. Why did they name it a jet ski and not a boatercycle?
  19. Good on them for releasing it. Don't see those barn doors very often anymore.
  20. I caught a world record brown bullhead when I was a teenager but just thought it was a funny shaped flathead and turned it loose. It was an ounce shy of 8 pounds, didn't even take a picture of it because that's a baby for a flathead. Wouldn't have been that big of deal since it was just a bullhead but it still would have been kind of cool.
  21. Melvern has a good population of smallmouth, and the population is getting better at Clinton. There's a bunch of them in Wabaunsee but that's probably getting to be not much closer than just driving to Table Rock for you. It does have huge smallies and largemouth both though.
