  1. Congrats!
  2. I occasionally use mine for bladed jigs and buzzbaits. I fish pretty heavy line on my spinnerbait rod so just because of that it makes it difficult to use it for a lot of techniques.
  3. Figure out your price range and stick to it. I've had everything from 12' johnboats to the bass boat I have now. I had a limit on what I could spend, then spent almost 2 years searching before I found one I wanted in that range.
  4. I keep them in the original bag and sort them by type into gallon bags in my boats storage.
  5. I have a KastKing Spartacus Plus with an upgraded Sea Knight Elf shallow spool in it spooled with 8lb test. It will cast one of my homemade 1/8oz micro jigs with a trailer very well. Find one on sale and you can get the whole thing for about half your target price.
  6. I had a ton of pictures during the same time frame. I went to my stand last week filled with excitement on what was sure to be a busy time of watching deer even if I didn't see a shooter. Did not see a single deer the entire weekend. 304 pictures on one camera in a week and a half and no deer in 2 days, couldn't believe it. My BIL bought a bird dog puppy this past year he's been working with training and asked if I'd go with him to a bird farm to get his dog some work. He'd bought some birds and just wanted another gun to try and get his monies worth. Thought I'd be rusty but we killed 7 quail and 3 chukars and I was able to account for 7 of them. His dog did well for still being a puppy basically.
  7. Fake. Had real trees my entire life until I moved in with my wife when we were dating. I'm not sure one is any less hassle than the other. We always went and cut our own cedar tree, it was pretty enjoyable as a kid.
  8. We catch a lot of them out of the Kansas River and Missouri river, both are very muddy and polluted. They do tend to be picky about what they eat, until they decide to eat.
  9. I don't exactly float n' fly, but I catch a lot of bass early each year while trout fishing with micro jigs under a bobber. I caught my biggest this year with a 4.5 pound fish on a 1/80th oz Turner Jones micro jig. I have done a little of the real thing with a Spro Phat Fly though and it does work if you have the patience.
  10. A pair of bucks found locked up and dead near a lake I fish often. The lucky hunter was given a salvage tags and allowed to continue trying to tag a deer of his own!
  11. Just don't try to lip them, trust me.
  12. They catch things like this but also a lot of them like this
  13. X2, the whole braid fouling on topwater baits is way overblown imo. The only topwater I don't use straight braid for are baits with a front prop (like the Devil's Horse), and buzzbaits. A lot of articles about how fluoro has less stretch than mono too, but test show otherwise. No need for a leader, just one more knot to fail. Line tangles are minimal, no more noticeable than they are with mono, and hookups are much higher, especially on long cast with walking baits or ploppers.
  14. I guess I don't see in my comment where I said anything about the gear "not holding up". It was the steady stream of gear that was years, sometimes over a decade old, being returned so the person could upgrade to the newest version of the item that really shocked me when I worked there. Or the people who would almost brag about how badly they would abuse their gear because they could always just bring it back and get a new one if it broke. I guess maybe some folks don't see it as an issue, but it's morally wrong to me. If a product has a lifetime warranty and it breaks from normal use, then I could understand someone wanting to use the offered warranty, but taking advantage of it just so they can always have the newest gear or so they don't have to take care of their gear? That's where I see the issue.
  15. My wife choking our dog out, or just a very contented puppy with it's tongue hanging out.
  16. About that time of year, I need a bigger board makes my 18" board look like a ruler.
  17. I use it for cranking, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, bladed jigs, traps, and even have it on one of my jig rods. Mono is very consistent, one of my favorite things about it. I know what to expect and there aren't any surprises. I like braid, good fluoro has it's uses, and I use a lot of copolymer also, but mono line does a lot of work for me still.
  18. Huddleston is pretty much the standard for a big swimbait that is soft and can be fished slowly. Keitech for a smaller bait, although now you can get them in larger sizes as well.
  19. I'll add a swimbait or split tail trailer, either for bulk or for contrast on a spinnerbait. I fish a trailer on a bladed jig 100% of the time and a very wide variety of them. I use a trailer hook occasionally on a spinnerbait for largemouth, 100% of the time if I'm after smallmouth or spots.
