  1. I've never fished Blue Springs, but I've heard it's very tough. I like Jacomo. This time of year out there you should be able to catch fish on a wacky rig pretty well. Toss it around cover and right on the weedlines and you'll get bit.
  2. I tie direct for everything. I'd get lazy and lose a fish if I used a snap.
  3. KVD Cataouatche Special is what he won the Classic on. Pretty similar to the standard chart/black back, just more chartreuse. It still works, but it's more situational than a standard in clearer water. Green Gizzard Shad is one of my go to colors in clearer water.
  4. Lots of tackle builders out there. I lobe to tinker with baits and make my own.
  5. I usually don't opt for red cranks I'm clear water, unless it's cloudy. Stained water is prime time for red cranks for me.
  6. The Spro is a solid bait and proven fish catcher.
  7. Yes, bass love the stuff.
  8. I'm using mine for topwater poppers/walkers/props on a 6' 2" M/XF Avid.
  9. Set the brakes fairly tight on a casting reel and they're almost impossible to backlash. Casting distance would suffer, but if you're in heavy timber you won't be casting far anyways.
  10. I'd like to mow at 2-4 AM a few times, just so the neighbors know what it's like to have someone mowing when you're trying to sleep Better than when they were jackhammering the whole parking lot of the gas station right behind my house all day a few weeks ago. Unless your laws are different than ours, there's nothing police can do provided you're not violating city ordinance.
  11. After I switched to braid/leader on my shakyhead a few years ago, I ended up switching all but one of my spinning rods over to this setup and no intentions of changing.
  12. Sounds like a great time. I'd like to get in on it some time, despite how much I hate Truman. I'll be at Table Rock with my dad most of the week following that weekend so it wouldn't work for me but maybe the advanced notice will get a couple other guys down there for a worthy even. Good to see the LBC is still doing well also. I fished with those guys for a couple season when I was still a teenager, had a lot of fun and learned a lot too.
  13. TW doesn't carry it, you know what that means...
  14. I started out slow, but figured them out pretty good on a tough lake in the last 3 hours of the day.
  15. To me they are. Being able to see contour lines alone is reason for me to having mapping. Thankfully my Garmins come preloaded with good maps for almost all the lakes I fish.
  16. @smalljaw67 what wire are you using for your weedguards? I need something to use for my weedless Ned Rig heads and I was thinking of using 7 strand leader material but I'm afraid it will unravel quickly.
  17. Never done it, but not real surprised. I caught one flipping a dock with a 1/2oz jig once. Stocker trout are dumb.
  18. They are furbearers in some states, so this is possibly illegal or there may at least be season. If it's legal and you go this route, be careful not to shoot them until they're on the bank where the round can't skip like it will on the water.
  19. Dad and I fished Clinton for walleye Thursday. Fishing was pretty much all we did. I think I caught 8 walleye, none even close to needing to measure. Dad caught a tiny white bass, a tiny channel cat, and a 16" walleye, so he got his walleye dinner he wanted. Friday I fought the urge to just stop and La Cygne and drove to Pleasanton, boy would I have loved to have those 3 hours back! I caught 4, 2 that I don't know would have even registered if I tried to weigh them they were so small, 1 on a wacky rig that didn't go 2 pounds, and my first topwater fish of the year on a popper. Pulled the plug and was on La Cygne by 11. Spawning carp and more drum then I have ever seen at La Cygne did not inspire much confidence, but I caught an 8 incher my first cast with a Ned so I felt better. After half the dam and not another bite, that confidence was drying up quickly. I made a small change when I lost my Ned, the next 3 hours panned out about as good as you can hope for on that lake. Saw a few of these along the dam, this was the only one dumb enough to let me get too close.
  20. I drove to the lake with my 2 man once and didn't realize until I got there that I forgot the battery at home. Just about a month ago I decided to explore a creek in my kayak. Got everything out and got the kayak on the cart before I realized I'd left my paddle at home. A couple months ago, we had just launched the boat when my bilge pump kicked on, sure sign the plug wasn't it. We pulled the boat out and laughed while it drained out. Put the boat back in the water and the bilge kicked back on 5 minutes later. We started talking and neither of us put the plug in, again.
  21. I did the same. It made sense in my head, but apparently not to the fish.
  22. It's not a Rapala. Looks like one of the baits out of the bin on the bottom shelf at Wal Mart. Probably by Cotton Cordell or Renegade. Body shape and bill looks like a Lucky Craft Bevy Shad, but it's not. Not the same color, but this is a Wal Mart "Bait Bonanza", crank by Cotton Cordell, sure looks the same.
  23. Muskrats can really do some damage on a pond bank. Filling the holes will do nothing unless you remove the problem (muskrats).
