  1. Nice, there's some monsters down there in Mined Wildlife Area. I wish I got down there to fish them more often but it's 2 hours to get down there, to the good ones anyways. I've seen some state record class fish in a couple of them.
  2. I always backreel, I feel much more in control over the fish when I do.
  3. I'm a boat owner again! Man it was a rough season with nothing but a johnboat but I finally found the right one. Had to drive almost to Wisconsin to get it but it was worth the drive for the deal I got on it. 2012 189 Stratos VLO with a 150 Mercury Optimax Pro XS, 80lb Maxxum, dual side imaging/down imaging/mapping Garmins are in route for it. The previous owners used it less than 6 times, I put more miles on the trailer hauling it home than it had on it. More than a little pumped up about it.
  4. You don't reel them through the rod guides just like you don't reel any other bait through the rod guides Carp have a serious sweet tooth (sweet lips? sounds wrong). We used to fish for them a lot with canned corn and mix some vanilla extract and brown sugar with the corn or corn soaked in strawberry pop. If you can find them in clear water you can actually sight fish them with a very small jig.
  5. Nice fish. I just bought a bunch of those trout magnet heads to tie trout jigs with, they look really nice
  6. And when that boat floats a little too far out of range or the batteries are a little low next time, then he'll really look like the cool guy at the ramp.
  7. Yep, that's what I've been fishing it in with success.
  8. I like Casey, both his demeanor and his chances of winning. If the fish are deep and eating a jig, he's going to be tough to beat.
  9. Used to be a piebald doe that lived in the middle of the city that I lived in. She'd eat grass with the rest of the herd off the side of the road, I'd see her a few times every year. I think she finally died of old age as I haven't seen her for quite awhile now. One of the local officer's said that one of her offspring is a really nice 10 point piebald buck though, I'd like to see that! I tried to get a picture of her once but the low light made it turn out awful.
  10. Like a plain green pumpkin? Chris actually has that bait already. It's his super secret tournament winning bait
  11. I've found that a slow sink seems to be best in very cold water while a slow float is better as the water starts to warm up.
  12. I put 1-4 bags of what I plan to use in my pockets and go.
  13. I find they can't resist a fiberglass arrow.
  14. Owner Mosquito hooks are a very thin wire hook and work well for a drop shot.
  15. They're nice for fishing any kind of worm, especially bigger worms.
  16. Find the bait first. In my experience, throwing the rig is almost always a waste of time unless there's baitfish around. Mess around with counting it down, retrieve speeds, stop and go. If the fish want it they'll tell you.
  17. If I had to pick one of those it would be the Strike King but neither of those baits are even in my top 10 favorite jerkbaits.
  18. 2012 Stratos 189 VLO with a 150 Mercury Optimax Pro XS, barely used. We put more miles on the trailer hauling it home than it had on it from the previous owners
  19. It's in the Storm series and I highly suggest you check it out
  20. Yep, need a little more info because where and how you fish them is going to be the deciding factor. I fish regular Swing Impacts in open water on a 6' 10" ML/XF spinning rod with 10lb braid and a 8lb leader and an open jighead. At the same time I'll fish a full sized Grass Pig or bigger Sick Fish on a weighted swimbait hook on a 7' MH/F with 50lb braid and fish it in vegetation.
