  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again, nothing fights like a house cat you didn't know was watching your bait swinging around while you're trying to pick out the awesome backlash you got on the lake earlier that day. On the plus side, all that line that was pulled off in the attempt to clear the backlash is no longer in a pile at your feet A good landing net is a must and a billy club is probably not a bad idea either when attempting to land and unhook a cat.
  2. This one.
  3. I fish during the "off season" Hunting and lure building usually keep me pretty busy when I can't get to one of the 2 power plant lakes though.
  4. For a 17' tin boat you could probably get one of those ones that kayak anglers use that just ties off to a boat cleat and you push it into the bottom manually.
  5. I'm with deep on this one. I figure if they put a snap/split ring on the bait, it's because that's how it works best. They want you to catch fish so you'll buy more. I use a SDJ for most of my big bait fishing.
  6. We actually launched at Sundance last time and fished around that area and did pretty well. It was much slower fishing that the east end but we also had zero combined experience that far down the lake.
  7. I use a Lew's Speed Spool for my spinnerbait/bladed jig/buzzbait rod and have zero complaints. I love my Curado IHG that's on my pitching rod too though. Can't really go wrong with either.
  8. It's not a popular lake with the tournament guys for some reason. The club guys fish it about once a year per club but they must never hit the timing right or spend their whole time fishing for largemouths because the weights are never good. Last one I heard out there it took 9.5 pounds for first place team and that was with a bass pass. If I went out there and couldn't do that weight with a partner in 5 fish I'd feel like I had a terrible day. I think maybe they catch so many of the little smallmouths that maybe they don't feel like the quality is there or something.
  9. It's a killer in stained water, around weeds, or in water with a tannic tint to it also. It does surprisingly well in clear water as well.
  10. 3/0 EWG for the super flukes, I don't fish the small ones unless it's on a fish head spin or scrounger.
  11. Green pumpkins, watermelons, and black grape are my favorites.
  12. So it's a swinging jighead then? That's one of my favorite ways to present a soft plastic. I pour my own and like to mess with the weight to hook size for specific situations. One that I really like is to pour a small weight like a 1/8oz and put a 7/0 oversize worm hook on it and fish a 7" stick worm on it.
  13. Make sure that's legal to do if you haven't already. Big no, no around here.
  14. That's close to the area I caught my 5 pounder out there. I hooked a fish the day before I caught that one that was noticeably larger that tossed my bait on it's first jump. Last year I had one follow a 3.5 pound smallmouth all the way back to the boat that made that fish look small. Since the lake got zebra mussels in it, it just seems like the smallmouth size has exploded out there.
  15. If you're going to fish both those type baits on the same rod I'd probably go with something like 14/15 pound. I use Sunline Super Fluoro because it's strong but pretty easy to fish with and affordable.
  16. They're almost the only squarebill I use anymore. They come in great colors, rattling and silent, a few different sizes, the hardware is decent, finish and baits are durable, I just have a hard time throwing many others when I'm just fishing for fun.
  17. I've caught quite a few at Melvern, up to 4 pounds smallmouths and spots, with a 7" Slammer and 5" Bull Shad, I have no doubt they'll hit that Buzzjet. There's more and bigger smallmouths in Milford, but there's state records in Melvern no doubt.
  18. I think you're the first person I've ever heard say they like those big Mickey Mouse ear paddles on the Lew's reels. I couldn't change the handle on mine out fast enough. I like the bigger knobs on a reel handle but those flat knobs on the Lew's I don't think I'd ever get used to.
  19. Pretty sure I had the big one, it was a really big bait I remember that. It's been a few years since I sold it and I liked the action and would probably give one another try if I found one for the right price.
  20. Alright boys, straight from the FAQs I have a dispute with 'company X'. Can I post about it here? While we can empathize with your frustration, the best course of action is deal directly with the company. Escalate it up the ladder, file a grievance with PayPal or Ebay (if they were involved with the transaction). File a mail fraud complaint with the post office. There are other options, but attacking the company in a public forum is not appropriate nor allowed. Such posts will be removed. Lockdown!
  21. I had one but didn't like how slow I had to reel to keep it on the surface.
  22. Hey Anthony, you'll want to follow along right here. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/41660-for-us-kc-area-guys-fishing-reports/page-290#entry1640413
