that's how I have been attempting to teach my son as well and I tried but every time it touched his spine it freaked out I ended up grabbing him by the gill plate like this.... My last trip out when I was home I was having a hell of a day trying to get a bite till I decided why not try slow dead slow and boom it was like magic one fish after another basicly dead sticking a jig. 2 days before that they smashed it soon as it touched the water. Like said previously listen to the fish.

I'v seen some big fish cruising but they never seem interested in anything and I don't think they could get that guy in there mouth. I'm not sure what they are they kinda look like a freshwater drum shape wise when looking at them but like 3-4ft long tall "skinny" bodies with hints of yellow with a big black stripe right behind the gills. Only 1 guy has caught one that I know of from my unit he got it on a piece of breaded and seasoned shrimp on the bottom. Im more interested in getting more of them grouper my next day off is the 1st I may go out again.

I'm with Chris as I said in the other thread "its in my blood" my father is a hardcore fisherman my mother has made comments that fishing were part of the reason they split up and that I'm following in his footsteps difference is my wife fishes so I'm safe . I eat sleep and breath fishing everyone in my platoon knows me as the fishing guy. I'm into hunting as well but I'm the only one in my family that hunts. Fishing how ever I definitely think your born with to truly love it look at my 2 boys for example. Noah just turned 3 and is in his second season he loves fishing and he doesn't get side tracked when we go its all he talks about is fishing with daddy throws a temper tantrum if I tell him we cant go fishing or if we have to stop. I think its in his blood like mine so to speak. My youngest just turned 1 a month ago iv been gone sense he was only 5Mo old on this deployment I got home on leave and was looking forward and dreading trying to keep him entertained as my wife and everyone says he hates cartoons wont watch tv or do anything but cry and carry on in the AM. I showed up sat him on my lap put on some old episodes if Brauer battles and the elite series and the little man sat there and watched it for hours exited every time he seen a fish Noah would take my phone and show him pictures of the fish he caught and he would start laughing and smiling and Noah the good big brother he is gave him his sponge bob pole because I bought him a new spinning combo. Jack thought that pole was the coolest toy he wouldn't put it down knew how to hold it couldn't reel it but tried and used it to torment his kitten. So I'm sure my boys will love the outdoors as well which in turn I guess is one of the reasons I love it.

Got out the other day on my day off for some early morning fishing in the gulf. I caught 1 fish a nice grouper at least to me I know they get to be much much bigger. Man did this thing fight hard he tried like hell to get under the pier into the cracks but I wasn't giving him anything I remembered what y'all said a while ago bout just cranking keeping them out of there hole. There was 2 of them the other was about the same size and chased it everywhere trying to get the jig out of its mouth. I got it on a pink Pompano jig from BPS. I had a few more hits threw out the day but came up short they were all on live bait also some I think may have been crabs as I kept bring back eye and gillless baitfish oh yeah i got the cast net to work good so I have some minnows to use. Also whats the best way to pick up and hold a grouper he had some sharp points on his gill plates not to mention TEETH! another question what type of grouper is it I googled it it kinda looks like a Goliath grouper to me but what do I know I'm a bass fisherman from WNY.

still a little early for salmon if ya ask me but I stopped chasing them years ago but I remember end of September early October being best for me. I always had luck with either cleo spoons or mini marshmallows it was win win with the marshmallows because if the fish arnt eating them you can....

just get 1 of each 3rd gen problem solved....................................... I have 2 S models and 1 SX I use my S's for jigs and texas rigs my SX is now my frog and spinnerbait reel. Last season I used my SX for jigs its a HS my S's are not I noticed no difference though in hook up percentages from going from 7.1:1 to the 6.4:1.

I may be getting combat pay but I'm far from combat we do roll "amber" most the time how ever and have had some uhm interesting situations that could go either way luckily its never to serious. I will say though depending on this Syria issue I may be re enlisting if it kicks off while I'm in and if not I will re enlist when and if it does happen. I have been in the army for going on 5 years now infantry the whole time that's 5 years of training of how to do nothing but that situation they were faced with.

Yes I realize that I'm not criticizing them to much I think 19 total rounds were fired 10 hit the bad guy 3 into bystanders the others were all fragments. I think 10 rounds in one guy is a bit excessive should have been 4-6 tops two well placed center mass shots from a .45 would put d**n near anyone down 2 cops same time means 4 holes maybe 6 if they do 3 shots each but 10 I think that's a bit much especially in a crowded area with that many rounds fired they must have been pulling that trigger the whole time his body was falling.

Honestly it can happen any where though, last summer a women was stabbed to death in the Walmart me and my wife go to and she was stabbed in the same parking spot we were in 30 minutes prior right smack dab in the middle of the entrance first parking spot. Now granted that was a rare case it still can happen anywhere. Now I'm with traveler2586 I'v been trained to notice my surroundings and I do it at home as much as I do it here. Yes I'm in Kuwait but there still are people here that don't like Americans I sat well moved around for a few hours the other week alone in the airport the day Ramadan ended I know a bit of Arabic and could tell who was talking about me who was eyeing me up and watching me/following me. We still have threats here not like Afghanistan or Iraq but there are forces here that would like to bring harm to us just not in form of a fire fight I'd rather have a fire fight though rather then worrying about bombs. Generally speaking though most criminals don't commit there crimes in broad daylight in the open for all to see they wait for an empty store why because if its empty less chance of some one in there carrying and all your attention is on the 1 or 2 clerks, or they go for the dark ally way or abandoned streets why same reason no one will see them and less chance of some one there with a bigger gun.

Nice one Fishes in trees Personally I have 4 higher quality combos 1 for jigs, 1 for frogs, 1 for t rigs, 1 for everything else. Then I have 3 lower end combos that fill when I need them. Also I carry 1 spinning combo for the off chance I want to throw some really light stuff or drop shot.

I'm exited to move down there I just thought of one thing though that might throw a curve ball but I gotta figure out if my wife wants to bring her horses down or not we have 2 horses man that would be a long haul ugh I thought I thought of everything and I just remembered we have horses lol.

the teeny craws can be tough on casting gear. I fish a river much like you described for smallies all the time besides what I already mentioned I also use a lot of jigs football head type and tubes preferably weedless or with the weight more in the middle not all the way on the end iv found that extra rubber acts as a bumper and helps bounce it out a cracks and rocks rather then wedge in there. You could also do weightless flukes or senko's smaller ones like 3-4" drifted in the current.

Try floating square bills or rebel teeny craws if you get hung up let some slack in your line the current will dislodge it 9/10 times and start your retrieve again. Also if your using grub, jig, tube, crank's anything really and the current doesn't dislodge you try the "snap" method I call it but instead of going slack pull your line tight then with your other hand pull some line out and snap it like a rubber band I guess would be the best way to describe it. Usually it will pop your lure out but not always.

Can always tell when there's a pike on the line just from that shake and zig zag they do worse then any smallie's head shake's Iv gotten a lot of frogs back when i used mono for top water by just keeping an eye out and seeing it pop up.

sounds good to me. As much as I love to fish I also love to eat free range critters I had some back straps when I was home the other week sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. I want to get a hog for BACON!!!!! and some pork chops but mostly BACON!!!!

I'v a;ways been fine with pike and braid I'll loose frogs due to to many punctures to glue before they bite threw my 50# PP. I'm not saying I never get bit off but its not very often and I get a pike or two almost every outing. Flouro is also good I'm Sure JF will chime in with the northland toothy critter leaders also they are tie able I'v never used them but hes suggested them to me a few times and says they don't deter bass bites or action.

I like my Kershaw's as well my everyday carry pocket knife is a Buck knife skinner I love that thing it holds an edge extremely well plus my son gave it to me for my birthday 2 years ago granted it was technically from my wife but it was "from" my son so its my favorite. I have a few Gerber's also the multi tools I have are razor sharp and hold an edge better then anything iv ever owned the pocket knife of there's I gotta sharpen almost weekly it seems. I'v always liked Benchmade, Sog, Spyderco, CRKT they sell alot in the Px's on post but there expensive so I stick with what I have already before I drop another 80+ on a knife my Kershaw ran me 180 6 years ago so if that breaks I'll drop more coin for a expensive knife.

I used to fish till the ice rolled in then I stopped because I never caught anything. If I had a boat id probably fish year round id find some where with soft water in WNY. Now I Ice fish and when I'm not doing that in the winter months I spend most of my time trying to out wit coyotes and fox for some extra coin when i sell the pelts I'd rather bass fish though.
