  1. The people who are offended by EVERYTHING are the problem, and they seem to think since it bothers them it should bother everyone. I just about blew a gasket a few years ago when my then kindergarten daughter came home and told us that it wasn't Christmas, but that it was "winter holiday" (whatever the heck that is). People need to get over themselves and stop forcing this PC crap down our throats. If you don't like something then don't participate, but don't ruin it for the rest of us!
  2. I'm so sick of winter that I went to my local lake and bounced lures off the ice casting. . . . . . . . . just for fun! 45 degrees is a heat wave right now! Couldn't resist myself.
  3. My 10 year old daughter has begged us for a cellphone for a few years now. I am beginning to think she is obsessed with the stupid things. I told her that the day she can give me a valid reason (aside from playing games) that she would need a cell phone, I would get her one. I also told her that her cell phone would be a basic flip phone that could be used for PHONE CALLS, you know, the whole purpose of a phone. I have yet to hear a good reason from my 10 year as to why she needs a cell phone. As for the Ipads/tablets in school, I would hope the school's IT department would be smart enough to block the install of some of the mind rotting apps that appear to be the sole reason most kids want a tablet or phone today. If something like that is implemented then I have no problem with my child using one for her education.
  4. Duct tape, electrical tape, and toilet paper. What more could one need?!? I do keep a few tools around to do emergency motor work if needed along with some rope, a sharp knife, and a few flashlights with extra batteries and bulbs.
  5. I have a few tools that I use and keep in my bag for various uses and I always carry a very sharp knife. Aside from the knife, I use a pair of mini end nipper pliers, or a pair of surgical scissors that seem to never dull. Both work great at cutting knots.
  6. You don't slow down an offense by passing a rule, you slow down an offense with stout defense. This is just an attempt by Saban to swing the game back towards a more NFL like game, which coincidentally, his team plays very well. Maybe it's time for Saban to adjust with the game instead of trying to adjust the game to fit his style.
  7. Treble hooks hurt going in. They hurt more coming out. They hurt the most when being surgically removed in an ER from the side of your neck. Lesson learned? Hit the deck when a squarebill is flying at you instead of trying to Matrix dodge the 100 mph bait flying at you. . . On a less painful note, I now check the drain plug every time I launch. On a humiliating note, never try to pull an anchor from a snag by motoring forward when the anchor is tied to the rear cleat, nearly sunk the boat on that one. . .
  8. I have a strong hatred for jet skis after having some fool crossed my line in shallow water and stripped about 100 yards of 50lb braid and a squarebill off my reel and into his jet. I got the last laugh though, seems his jet ski had to visit the mechanic and was inoperable for the rest of the summer! Also have to agree with everyone saying the wind, that is just a pain to fish in.
  9. Felt a tug and some tapping on my beaver bait while swimming it through some brush, but it wasn't enough to set the hook. As I pull the bait out of the water I notice this large brown thing swimming in circles just below where I pulled my lure out. Suddenly, an otter pokes his head out of the water and just looks at me for a few seconds before bolting. Probably doesn't sound too strange to many of you, but this was a land locked lake far from any river. Here in Missouri I was under the impression that otters stayed mainly around rivers, so I was shocked to see this little guy.
  10. As CD1542 pointed out, just because the constitution is 200 years old doesn't make it irrelevant. The fact stands that this country was founded on the constitution and the bill of rights. In the bill of rights is one particular amendment, the second amendment, which states that our right to bear arms "shall not be infringed." That specific statement has been under scrutiny pretty much since the day it has been penned and has managed to stand the test of time. And just to put it out there, anyone who claims that the 2A never could have accounted for modern firearms seems to forget that we didn't have 24/7 television news when the 1A was written. People want to pick and choose what amendments are relevant in today's world and it doesn't work that way. You either get all amendments or the constitution and bill of rights fails, plain and simple. Edit: please don't mistake me for one who thinks we should have no firearms regulations. I do believe that sensible firearms laws can make a difference. The problem is that what is proposed by our congressmen/women today seems to fly in the face of logic. Lets ban a firearm that accounts for a fraction of 1% of all firearms murders, but do nothing about mental health and other problems that may reduce ALL violence. What we currently see today in the form of proposed "gun control" is just a farce to restrict gun ownership, plain and simple.
  11. 1: I don't think that everyone carrying will make us safer, but I do believe it is a constitutional right that should be upheld. If we judge people on appearances then I would scare the hell out of people. Fact is, I am a nursing student and a rather liked person at the hospital I work at. Just because someone is "scruffy" doesn't mean he is dangerous and shouldn't open carry a firearm. 2: I don't worry about who is "packin" and who isn't, period. I don't really care if the guy next to me has a gun. Unless he pulls it, I have nothing to worry about. 3: No well regarded 2A supporter would suggest that "well regulated militia" means we need firearms regulations. The man deserved the backlash that he got. I think we have enough gun regulations on the books, the problem is the enforcement of those regulations. Gun control proponents suggest banning a firearm (AR15) based on the fact that its semi auto and scary looking. The fact is that an AR15 accounts for far fewer deaths than many common household items, such as ball bats and kitchen knives. In fact, most semi automatic small caliber hunting rifles can do the same thing an AR15 can, in a much less scary looking package. Again, we don't need new laws banning certain firearms or restricting peoples rights, we need enforcement of the thousands of firearms laws already on the books. I do think we've gone too far, we've gone too far in trying to criminalize gun owners.
  12. Got my flyer in the mail a few days ago. I wont say that I'm disappointed, but it was underwhelming. I had hopes of getting an Abu Garcia STX or comparable reel at a sale price, but that hope was dashed. I was going to utilize the reel trade in and I may not now, but I still have $150 in BPS gift cards to spend there so I'll have to find something to satisfy the bait monkey.
  13. A can see about an inch of water between the bank and the lake covering slab of ice, makes me sad every time I drive by a lake.
  14. Boil ramen noodles, drain water, add cheddar cheese with season packet to drained noodles, profit! On a serious note, cheep food like this helped me through though times, and raised my cholesterol and BP to astronomical levels, and I'm still running my rear off to fix that ten years later. . .
  15. Work as a Nurse Assistant and am currently in Nursing school with the hopes of continuing on and getting my Certified Nurse Anesthetists license. I'm not actually sure which one is work at this point in my college "career." Needless to say I don't buy much fishing gear right now, but still pick up a bit once in a while.
  16. Grilled some ribeye steaks. Had oven roasted red potatoes and bacon wrapped asparagus for sides. Did all of this after filleting my finger cutting potatoes, and the temps were below freezing. . . brrr. Did I mention that I had to go to the ER after dinner to get my d**n hemorrhaging finger glued shut?!? Nothing says love like and ER visit on valentines day. . .
  17. Nice to see a gun wasteland like California take a positive action towards guns.
  18. I more meant how the reel feels in the hand. I don't exactly have mitts, and the pro qualifiers are slightly uncomfortable, so the ultimate decision will come down to how it feels in my hand and to a lesser extent the price. I will add the Tatula to my list though, I've been burnt by Diawa before but will still check it out. Wish I could but BPS doesn't sell Lews reels. The reels I bring to BPS for the trade in are usually older ones that I've had for years and no longer use. They are also not particularly expensive reels and really have little resale value. I don't think I'm gonna get much selling a reel that I bought new for $40 (10 years ago) on ebay. I'm also a broke college student, so scratching together enough for a reel is pretty much out of the question. The gift card was a Christmas gift, which I had every intention of using strictly for a reel.
  19. I'll have to pick up the Chronarch and play with it when I go reel shopping. I also plan on looking at the Revo STX. Guess it'll come down to which one feels the best in hand and which one is the better deal.
  20. Looking for a new baitcaster, reel only, for around $150. I will be buying from bass pro and cashing in some gift cards and doing the reel trade in when the spring fishing sale starts. Last year was my first year with a baitcaster, buying two pro qualifiers. Now I want to move up just a bit to a little higher quality reel. I am a fan of abu garcia reels so that's where I've been looking so far, but I was hoping to get some feedback on quality reels in this price range so I'm not overlooking anything.
  21. Traffic stops are irrelevant since I come from a state (Missouri) which allows the carry of a handgun in ones car without a permit, and I am grateful for that. With that said, I think it is foolish to allow any Joe on the street to carry concealed without proper training. I fully agree with open carry where it's allowed. What I do not agree with are these open carry camera jockeys who feel they need to show their "constitutional superiority" over the local LEO's like you see in most youtube videos. All this does is draw negative attention to those of us who carry peacefully with good intentions. Have I open carried before? Yes! Do I comply with an officers requests when he asks? Yes! Do I whip out my camera phone and record the altercation while spouting some convoluted constitutional crap to make myself look superior? NO.
  22. Winchester Model 1300 20 gauge, Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag 12 gauge, S&W 915, Remington 597 .22, and a Browning A-Bolt 30-06.
  23. For the cost of a high dollar Mac you can get a comparable or better PC. With that said, it's all about preference for the user. I build my own PCs, so for me the cost is lower and I end up being able to tailor it to my needs (wedding photography and gaming). For the person with a wide variety of Apple products a Mac makes sense. I used a borrowed (friends) MacBook Pro a while back to edit photo's from a large wedding shoot I did, and the experience almost made me a Mac man. If I didn't despise Apple I probably would own one right now. As for the viruses. . .I wish the jackholes creating em would get struck by lightning or eaten by a gator or some other horrible plague would hit them. . . .
  24. I'm in the long and painful process of quitting right now. But my preference was always Grizzly wintergreen or Grizzly premium natural long cut 1900 (poor mans cope). Grizzly here in mid Missouri only runs $2 so it was a cheap habit. After watching my dad die from esophageal cancer due to his heavy smoking I decided it was time to give it up. I want to be around to see my daughter graduate college, get married, and possibly enjoy the grand kids she produces some day. . .
  25. Slash is the man, and for my generation is my favorite, though I prefer the solo('s) from November Rain the most. Now out of my generation, Eric Johnson. Don't listen to much from him, but if you don't find Cliffs of Dover to be an awesome solo then your nuts!
