  1. Back in the 70's we use to haul my Dad's 12' aluminum V around upside down in the truck's 8' bed. We would tie a red rag on the end of the boat for safety reasons. Most of the places we fished were trolling motor only so it worked out pretty good.
  2. Rogues are about the only jerkbait I have any luck fishing with.
  3. As soon as the ice is off the water I'm fishing with lipless crankbaits, crankbaits, swimbaits, and chatterbaits. The bite on each will vary from year to year. Last year it was all about crankbaits and swimbaits, the year before that the bass wanted lipless baits. Usually somewhere between the middle of April, and the middle of May the bite on moving baits slow down, and the bite on bottom contact baits starts picking up.
  4. Welcome to BR.
  5. You should be fine with the finesse swimbaits, and the drop shot. I sometimes fish jigs and senkos in heavy cover so I like to use a mh/f for those baits.
  6. When I tie a knot the two things I have learned to do is #1 make sure there is a little friction as possible in the line when I am tightening down the knot, and #2 make sure the knot is good by really pulling the line after the knot is tight. If there is a problem with the knot it will usually break off while I'm pulling on it. As far as snaps go I look for snaps that are small in size, but not light wire.
  7. No ritual except going through the checklist and making sure that I have everything done before I head out on a trip.

  9. It has probably time on the water, and tweaking things I have learned on this site so that they work for me in the water that I fish.
  10. One of the ways I fish thick vegetation is to throw out a 6" t-rigged straight tail worm with a 1/16 ounce weight on it. I drag the worm back across the top of the vegetation like I would if I were dragging it across the bottom in the mud.
  11. That's a big ole bass!
  12. Our weekly winter storm has arrived. I am waiting to hear if work is going to be closed today.
  13. I've been using the Cordell Boy Howdy, and Crazy Shad for years.
  14. I keep my log on an excel spreadsheet. Then I can go back and sort through the info however I want to view it.
  15. I'll vote for the cot. Every time I have gone camping and slept on an air mattress or pad, I have gotten sick.
  16. I just ask my wife to hold the spool, or run the line through a few phone books. Sometimes both.
  17. The bass do the same thing around here, but not just with lipless baits and usually in the fall. IMO, it has something to do with the bass going after larger forage to get more bang for the buck. Did you happen to talk to anyone else that was fishing in your area to see how their trip was going?
  18. I liked the idea with the marker buoy. I’ll have to try that.
  19. Well those gift cards finally burned a hole in my pocket. I went to Bass Pro and wiped out a majority of them. 4 lb line in filler spool for the ultra light. 20. Going to college, my dream was to get a job in either the marketing, or the financial field. Reality set in after graduation, when I discovered that without someone on the inside to actually get me in the door my chances of landing a job in one of those fields was nil. For the past 33 years I have worked in the facilities / construction management field.
  21. Since you don't know the lake I would start with something that you can cover the water column with quickly. A chatterbait, spinnerbait, or a lipless bait is what I would start with.
  22. Probably somewhere around 20 to 25 ft.
  23. If the wind is going to be over 15 mph or so I normally fish off the bank. I have fished in 20 mph sustained winds, with gusts up to 30 mph. It wasn't fun, but I made it work since it was just wind.
  24. I have to go with BPS rods being underrated. Especially the older ones like the extremes. You can't beat them for moving baits.
