  1. I have one reel with a swept handle. I guess I don't get it. Then again, I don't get SG rods either. It's another fad created to sell reels in a market that's gone somewhat flat. The history of reels goes sorta like this... Mag braking Followed by LP reels which by todays standards were only sorta Low Profile. Then gear ratio, faster was better. Then bearing count Then graphite frames for lightweight Then aluminum frames because graphite frames were no good. Then aluminum sideplates because graphite side plates weren't any good either. Then More bearings. and even higher gear ration's. Then Lower profiles than the old low profiles. Then plated finishes. Titanium line guides. Slotted spools. Dual braking. Magnesium frames which were even lighter. Swept handles ..... etc. etc.
  2. Never heard of it. Not sure about "nice".
  3. muddy has basically given up this internet forum thing for a while.
  4. Well i guess if...... Finishing 5th in the points standing out of 40 other drivers is average. I guess all that means is there are 35 drivers who wish they were average. 3rd place in the Indy 500 is average. I suppose anyone could do that. : Sounds more like a hater to me. But, whatever that's your right. I never said she was great. All I'm saying is the girl can drive. And I wish her the best in her nascar career. 8-) 3rd place in the Indy 500, circa 1996 to present doesn't hold the weight it had. In comparison, Juan Montoya entered the 2000 Indy 500 with Target Chip Ganassi racing. This was the first time a CART team had crossed the line and participated in an IRL event since the beginning of the OW split in 1996. Montoya blew the rest of the IRL field away. It wasn't even close. This despite the fact that Montoya had very little oval racing experience compared to his competition. Here's another comparison. Danica's Toyota Atlantics season. Despite the fact she had one of the better equipped cars on the track, race in and race out, she was easily bested in every race by the eventual champion, AJ Almendinger. The very same AJ Almendinger who currently drives one of the Toyota Red Bull cars in the cup series. AJ was another Champ car crossover who had virtually zero oval racing experience prior to his entrance into the all oval cup series. His climb through the ranks, without the aid of $$$ to "buy" a premium ride like Patrick has with the Earnhardt ARCA and Nationwide car, was far more impressive. Finally, you'll note in the listed accomplishments of Ms. Patrick above, only 2 total victories in all those years of racing despite the fact she's often been driving superior equipment compared to her competitors. The point? Ride buyers have always been around in racing, regardless of the series, she though has never been able to shake the fact that she's never fulfilled her hype, created by taking her clothes off most of the time, with results that would indicate real racing talent. Until then she's a "brand" that's continues to race because of deals she brings to the table, mostly due to her ease of undressing in front of a camera versus producing on-track results.
  5. You're not seriously comparing her to any of those drivers are you? She's not worthy to carry their helmets.
  6. Known on OW racing forums as the "Princess of Pout" Most Indy car drivers are usually accessible to the fans that have pit/garage access. One of the many complaints about her, especially in the early years when Danica mania was in full swing was her complete in-accessibility. Her posse of body guards made it impossible to approach her though not that she was really approachable to begin with.
  7. Centrifugal brakes are internally adjustable (usually) sliding blocks mounted on pins. Most reels have 2,4 or most commonly, 6 of them. Those brakes effect the spool and initial spin up of the spool, the hardest part of the cast to control and prevent the spool from over spinning on the first part of the cast. Mag brakes are normally externally adjustable, fixed magnets that are moved closer too or farther away from the spool end using an adjustment dial. Mag brakes come into play towards the end of the cast as the lure is losing momentum in it's trajectory and prevent the spool from spinning faster than the lure is taking out line. Reels without mag braking force the user to learn thumb control of the spool as the means to keep that from happening. There is an exception to this, Daiwa's mag force braking system reacts upon the spool during the cast somewhat like Centrifugal brakes do. It's a completely different design of mag braking than other manufacturers. If you want to really learn to use a baitcaster, a reel with only centrifugal brakes is the way to go OR a dual brake reel and leave the magnetic brakes turned off. It's really a great idea to learn thumb control. Much the same way everybody should learn to drive a stick shift automobile.
  8. One of the best hockey games I've seen in a long time. Few penalties, great clean hockey the way it should be played. Congrats to team Canada.
  9. Again, it's standard practice in Indy cars given their speed. I've seen far more dangerous drivers running around in cup. I've also seen so called name drivers intentionally running people off the track and doing extremely dangerous, stupid driving moves..... I think the number 3 car comes to mind right off the bat.
  10. Only when a driver knows they're about to face an impact, usually frontal, do they remove their hands from the steering wheels. Wrist and mostly thumbs can get broken when the wheel snaps after the front suspension impacts twisting the wheels.
  11. The Danica rule in Indy cars now has ballast added to any car to match the weight of the heaviest car.
  12. She's used to Indy cars. Crashes in those don't happen in the slow motion pace like they do in the cabs and typically, drivers aim at the wrecking car as it probably won't be there by the time they get there. As for her driving ability? Since 2005 she's managed to win one race. That was a fuel mileage deal where she wound up on the winning end. She does well on the track by herself, put her out there with 20,30 or 40 other vultures and it's a different story. Her MO is to qualify well, start the race and immediately drive backwards until she hits her comfort level. She inevitably will complain about something on the car not being right. Numerous pit stops will be made to fix the gremlin and nothing works. She moves up through the field when others ahead of her crash or fall out due to mechanicals. She's a sponsors dream, good looking and she usually keeps the car in one piece finishing in the lower tops 10's to midpack. The hype though has never been backed up with results. BTW, Danica openly admitted to using the FHM spread early in her career to gain attention to herself. She needed it, her racing results were never worthy of the good rides she's been given.
  13. Patriarch. All aluminum construction. Dual braking. I've owned them for 2 years now with zero complaints. Best reel I've ever thrown and that includes the opportunities to use Shimano reels.
  14. Dual braking is the way to go IMO. The centrifugals will work for you on most days so and you can keep the mags turned off relying on your thumb for correct spool control at the end part of the cast. OR You can go completely lazy and use the mags in conjunction with the cent brakes all the time. Dual brake reels can be set up to be thumbs free casting virtually all the time even casting into the wind.
  15. $6500 for a grossly underpowered boat? Way too high.
  16. There is a large and rather hard core group of collectors of Garcia Ambassadeurs and the 2500 would be one of the more desirable models depending on condition along with exact model/year. That can be found via the number stamped on the bottom of the reel foot. Check the vintage reels section of Ebay to get a more accurate idea of the reels value.
  17. John Storey built boat. (former Champion founder). It's a worked splash from a Ranger 481 IIRC. Fast boats though 90hp isn't going to get you anywhere quickly. As always, check the motor with a mechanic, transom and flooring for soft spots.
  18. Dark Chocolate that's actually good for you.
  19. Gander Mtn was supposed to open a store in Arnold, Mo. but has since backed out. The developer of the mall it was to go in is suing them.
  20. I heard the lakes up there finally thaw out around June.
  21. Really? He's stupid to put something that could be common knowledge to anyone who has the internet and knows where bassmaster.com is? :-? It's normal internet forum etiquette to post a "Spoiler" in the title post and not give away information on an event in the post title that won't be televised till later. but Nobody bothers to follow etiquette anymore anyway so it's no surprise that it happened. Especially here. :
  22. I'm usually so drunk by the time I get to the lake that drinking on the water isn't very appealing.

While some of those fish do stay around, remember, an area will only hold as many fish as the food source will supply. While some fish do stay around, studies have found that most wind up moving to other area's of the lake including the same place they were caught from.
  24. Yes. I still have a few. Allen bought out Ditto. Allen also had a crankbait line IIRC. I've caught a lot of fish on the Gator tails when I'd fish them in the day. Ditto made a Pumpkin/Chart laminate worm with Chart. Glitter that was just a killer on LOZ here in Missouri. BTW, Zoom's G-tail worm is pretty close to the Gator tail in both appearance and action.
  25. Thanks, that was the ticket my knob was freaking so darn tight I couldn't turn it. It looks a bit weird though since the motor head is almost at 90 Degree in relation to the lower unit so I doesn't look nice and neat like it used to, but it solved the issue. If you're feeling mechanical, you can take the top off the head, disconnect the main drive gear from the shaft gear and align the head that way. It would solve your head position being way off like that.
