Tn, I don't fish local ponds at night. On Hobbyhill Road in Richmond there are snapping turtles. How do I know? Saw one trying to cross the road from the pond. On Lochinvar Road in Richmond there are snapping turtles. How do I know? Because I used to throw bread to them (there are two) while fishing the pond. They would stay their distance and float in the water watching me. And on Lochinvar Road pond I saw a copperhead slither below me as I stood on the dock. No reason to go fishing at night at our local ponds.

I look up many of the new techniques on the Internet to see how to rig and fish them.

This is "Simmy," short for Simeon Bailey. He was our son's purebred blue mauve Aussie and a wonderful dog. Very smart and stubborn, too. A loving dog who liked to be petted and have his belly rubbed. We lost him a few years ago at the age of 15. We just can't go through losing another dog at this time in our lives so we will live with Simmy memories as best we can.

I fish and my wife quilts. I do my thing and she does her thing. Going to plays or to friends homes and other events always trump my fishing and her quilting. This is understood. All is good on the home front!

Owning my own company gives me the time to hit the water during weekdays when I have the lakes and rivers all to myself. However, I take my IPhone with me and I can continue to conduct business as if I was in the office. To date, no one has picked up on it but I have some friends who call and the first thing they ask is if I am on the water fishing.

Sorry, never heard of this lake before but I am sure it will have some nice bass in it for you. I think you will be more successful on Lake Izac than on close by One Fish Anna. Have a good time at the wedding and let us know what you catch out of the lake.

Fish can see six times farther in water than we can. So when you look into the water to see when your bait disappears you will have a good idea of the water clarity conditions and you have to realize that the bass can see better in water than you can. Light absorption and scattering also play a part in water clarity. You then have to take into account color and perception and how a bass sees your lures via size, shape, color, contrast, flash and action. You can learn a lot in the written articles in bass books, magazines and videos about water clarity and how the bass see colors at different depths and clarities. I could go on and on about water clarity and bait colors from Dr. Keith Jones' book, Knowing Bass, The Scientific Approach to Catching More Fish (The Lyons Press 2002) but it is too early in the morning to try to decipher what Dr. Jones' research determined. For soft plastics there are three basic colors: Watermelon for clear water; Green Pumpkin for stained water; and Junebug for heavily stained and all types of water. For hard baits you go with what the forage is in the area you are fishing. You have to experiment and use your best judgement and what you have confidence in throwing. Do what the guys suggest above and experiment. Cast your baits out and reel them in slowly so you can see when you see them for the first time. This will give you an idea of the water conditions. You will get the hang of it very fast.

No, not really concerned as I am ready to roll when the weather permits but I did give up Corona beer just to be one the safe side.

We have water moccasins in the greater Central Virginia area up to the Appomattox River and where it joins the Historic James River and copperheads all over the place. The water moccasins are not supposed to go farther north and west than the Appomattox but since they don't read they have been seen as far up the Historic James River as Osborne Landing, just east of the City of Richmond. I have lots of black snakes at my house which is good. One has to be over six feet long and the lady across the street gave him a name which I just can't' remember. Black snakes will keep the copperheads and mice away which is great since I live in an area with lots of undeveloped land and forests. You leave them alone and they will leave you alone. You just have to be careful where you walk in the leaves and by the rocks and make sure the water moccasins don't try to get into the boat via the motor or trolling motor when on the local rivers. And they are sneaky, too.

I swim for exercise almost every day between 25 and 30 minutes in a 91* heated water rehab indoor swimming pool and believe me, 600 yards is a lot of water to cover in my swim trunks. I don't know if I could do 600 yards in street clothes and I know I don't think I could do it in cold water.
