New to tournaments
Herbert, Richmond Bassmasters has openings for boaters and non boaters. We have had one tournament so far. Our next one will be on either Lake Chesdin or Buggs Island depending when the Corps opens the Buggs ramps to tournament fishing. We fish 8 tournaments a year so you can join and fish the remaining seven. We do not fish in July or August due to heat and heat stroke issues. If you want to join Richmond Bassmasters you will need to attend one of our meetings that are held the fourth Wednesday of each month, other than for December and the on the third Wednesday in November, at the Pickle Barrel. You can look up the Pickle Barrel on the Internet. Sharon, the owner, will probably have to close this week so we are not meeting. Dues are $120 and includes paying the state and national BASS federations plus the big for the year pot. You have to join BASS as an individual and have your BASS membership number to join the club. The nonboater fee per tournament is $50 but where can you get a guide and make a friend for $50 these days plus have 8 hours on the water learning how the boater fishes for bass. To get into the optional tournament pots it is $50 per boat or $25 each guy. If you want to join the club please note the personal message I sent and give me a call. As stated above, we are not meeting this Wednesday and the club officers will probably vote to have our April 18th tournament on Lake Chesdin unless the Corps opens up Buggs and then we will try for 1) Eastland Creek; 2) Rudd's Creek; or 3) keep our North Bend Park ramp permit. We fish as teams so there is no problem with back boating issues. You will learn where the ramps are located; techniques; baits; places to fish; and lots of other information. Give me a call this weekend or anytime. I ain't going anywhere this week. Thanks.

Tournament
Check out these two sites and contact the region leaders for clubs that you may join in the Tidewater area: https://www.vabassnation.com/members/1097-2/ Check out Region 7. https://www.vabass.com/ Give 'em a call. You will have to register on the site so look for the Log In icon and join. Just remember they are not too swift on the computer so keep contacting them. Another suggestion is to attend the Richmond Fishing Expo next January to meet the BASS and FLW federation representatives and fill out a form to join one of their Tidewater clubs. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Caddo Lake - Jeems Bayou
Just remember to wear your purple and gold and yell "Geaux Tigers" when you set the hook and you will have a fantastic season. If you wear green, blue and white and get confused as to what a green weenie is you will never catch another fish in your life. Good luck and keep sending those pictures. Geaux Tigers!

First fish of 2020

A Short Sightfishing Story
Fantastic! Congrats on catching the big lady. And thanks for sharing and telling your story.

Beautiful morning.
Super! Glad you had a great outing. Keep it up and keep sending us the photos. Dogwoods should blossom in Virginia within the next two weeks so the bass will be on their beds and then the fun begins for the rest of the year.

Interesting day at a new pond
Yep, catfish will hit bass baits. Bowfin, pike, snakeheads, stripers, and other freshwater species with teeth will actually destroy your spinnerbaits and their teeth will cut your line when they hit your crankbaits as they swim off into the deep blue waters of your favorite lake, river or pond.

Why not another pre-spawn question
Man, can they drive you crazy or what?????
-
Why not another pre-spawn question
i believe when they are on their beds they will not eat based on hunger but they will try to kill your bait.

Stren VS Big Game
A bass pro turned me onto Gamma line but since Gamma does not have a mono I use Big Game and other mono's for topwater and treble hook baits.

A blessing and a curse!
Fantastic. All I have learned after all these years after high school is: you can't control electricity or water. So I call the plumber and electrician to do all the work around my house and our rental house. Lucky for me and my wife we have a a friend who is an electrician; another fishing friend who is an excellent auto service guy at our local BP station; and a super guy who is a HVAC guy who does the plumbing work for us. Glad you had the opportunity to learn some trades.

Struggling to get started this year
Fishing is a marathon, not a sprint. Just keep going out and you will be successful. And maybe you will hook and land Jimmy Hoffa and get a big reward.

Wacky Rig Senko= Finesse?
Yes, the presentation of flipping and pitching is considered to be finesse no matter what bait you have on your line.

Fishing weightless
Water gets stained or dirty via the particles in the water from the surrounding land and bottom caused by rain washing down the dirt particles into the water. Your tube's rate of decrease was impacted by the dirt particles in the water. Add the increased water flow and the increased particles and you have a slower decent.

A blessing and a curse!
Fly, living in Virginia you should know that in Virginia the high schools have fantastic votech programs where you can learn some valuable trades; build a storage shed; learn outboard motors (Hanover County Schools offered this program in the past); be an electrician; work on plumbing; learn auto mechanics; learn auto engine repairs; be a mason;work on cars; learn to cook; learn about being an electrician; be a hairstylist or barber; learn to be a nursing assistant; and other programs. Check out this link for what your county school board is offering the students. http://hcps.us/parents_students/program_of_studies/high_school_courses/high_school_courses_guides/specialized_high_school_courses Lots of kids can't learn at home as they don't have the parents, grandparents or other relatives/neighbors/friends to help them learn. I guess we are fortunate to have these programs in our Virginia high schools. Wish they had some of them when I was in high school. Virginia city and county school boards offer these votech classes so the kids who are not going on to college will have a good base to start a great career. The kids who do get to go to college can also learn skill sets that they can use after they graduate high school and college. My wife was not allowed to get her drivers' license until her father saw her remove a flat tire and put on the spare. At the time my beautiful wife weighed around 110 pounds but she did it and got her license. All by herself with her three brothers watching and laughing at her. Take care and enjoy this beautiful weather we are having in central Virginia.

Locking Rods in Car?
My wife got me the telescoping 88-inch Plano Guide Series Rod Case as a Christmas present this past year to protect my rods while in the SUV. It is made of sturdy black plastic and can extend to over 7-feet. Check it out: https://www.planomolding.com/guide-series-airliner-telescoping-rod-tube I have been trying to figure out how you can take this rod case and bolt it to the inside of your vehicle without blocking a door. You could drill holes in the vehicle's roof and install hangars but it could block your rear view mirror and hinder your view when backing the vehicle. You would have to install and secure the hangars inside the rod holder so that the screws do not damage the rods or reels. Or you could lay the rod case over the turned down back seats and between your seat and the passenger seat depending on what type of vehicle you are driving. With the case being black it would be difficult to see from outside of the vehicle. Otherwise, I will defer to the other answers provided.

A blessing and a curse!
12, you did good!!!!!! Glad to read you still have the knowledge and skill you learned in the plumbing trades. My knock on public education is that we don't teach kids today basic automotive maintenance and care; basic woodworking; basic plumbing; basic electrical skills; basic small engine repairs; outboard motor maintenance and repairs; and the like. The only one votech class in my high school was a woodworking class where we built bird houses. And Guitar, good thinking regarding the snake set up. The last time I cleaned my wife's clogged sink I used a plunger along with a strong drain cleaner I bought at the grocery store to start the process. I then dropped a rope from the bathroom window to the deck below, tied the hose to it, pulled it into the bathroom, and turned it on to flush out the drain. It worked. So far, so good. Will have to duplicate the process once again in a few months.

I finally found out what happened
Same thing happened to the small pond on Lochinvar Road in the City of Richmond. Not landscape guys just people from Richmond taking what they caught out of the pond. I don't waste my time fishing the pond anymore.

What's the chances ?
Extremely strong probability that the pike will shake off or drag off the jerkbait. I have caught bass and redfish with hooks in their mouths and the fish showed no affects of having the hooks in their mouths. Good question. Looking forward to reading additional answers.

Aviation Mechanics as a Career
I met with one of my clients yesterday and he owns vocational schools that teach aviation mechanics. After completing the course you can start your career paying you at least $60,000 a year. Go overseas to work on American aircraft for foreign governments and the base salary jumps to over $100,000, tax free. If you are a veteran you can get almost all of the tuition paid by Uncle Sam. Just a suggestion for you young guns who are looking for a career that pays well. Here is the web site if you are interested: https://aviationmaintenance.edu/

Yet another reason to want to move from Illinois
In Virginia, the law says: A trailer can be defined as a vehicle without motor power designed for carrying property or passengers wholly on its own structure and that is drawn by a motor vehicle, including tow dollies and converter gear. Trailers can be registered annually, bi-annually or permanently. The trailer annual registration fee is based on the gross weight of the trailer: 0 to 1,500 Pounds $70 1,501 to 4,000 $75 4001 and Over $100 I had to register my boat trailer many years ago and no longer have to worry about registration fees. Also did the same with my other trailer that I use to haul furniture, Cub Cadet riding mower, lawn and garden supplies, mulch, etc.

PAIN 2
Hope you feel better, soon. When I drive for hours and get out of the SUV my knees and hips are tight and painful. After walking around for about 30 to 45 seconds they loosen up and are fine. I take Aleve only when I go fishing to help with the knee and hip pain. Aleve drives the pain away. I know I have to have my left knee replaced in a few years, if not sooner, due to the arthritis build up. But I will do all possible to avoid the surgery for as long as possible. Agree with the guys for you to see a doctor to find out what is going on. Not a surgeon as they make their money cutting on you, but your family practice physician for their opinion and a treatment plan. Good luck.
