Different style hitchiker.I believe you will start seeing more football heads on these jig types.
  3. Kentucky Lake is a man-made river resevoir. 160,300 acres channel depth average is 60 ft. average lake depth is 15ft. 2380 miles of shoreline
  4. I went in my local Wally World today. They are clearing all of the FLW brand lures. Most people don't even pay alot of attention to this lure line because it looks like a cheap Wal-Mart brand.Really one of my favorite all-time lures, the FLW 6" Finesse Worm,is made by Mann's.Anyway my eyes almost popped when I saw them on clearance for $1.50 a pack.I got some funny looks buying 20 bags of worms in January. On the other hand,it looks like Wal-Mart is going to be done selling them.I hope Mann's will still make this worm.I wonder, and I don't want to start rumor, but is Wal-Mart going to quit sponsoring FLW?
  5. You can get a good deal at Wal-Mart right now or you will be able to soon on a variety of reels.I just got 2 Team Daiwa reels for $65 a peice.
  6. Well....they do stock that lake with trout! The article I have read wrote that he caught both of them out of the same area,a submerged weed bed.Sounds like the guy proved it wasn't luck.....or maybe he got lucky twice!

    Sight fishing bedded fish.
  8. As for the bluff,my first would be a jig or shakey head finesse worm.If I felt the fish were holding close to the bluff wall I would see if I could figure out a spinnerbait presentation that would work by parralelling the bluff.Last but not least a drop shot or float-n-fly.I really think the lure and presentation would depend on how I felt the fish were relating to the bluff. As for the channel,c-rig,tube,shakeyhead,or jig.I would drag it on the gravel.
  9. I haven't tried this yet but I'm going to!Claims to be what you are looking for! http://seaguar.com/Products_IX.html

With the new X-Walk or whatever and the new X-Rap Shad look like they simple put a feather tail hook and new colors on the Rattlin' SR and Skitter Walk. :-?

    I go by this: Depth+preferred presentation=jig size.
  12. Grass is good but I'm gonna say rockpiles or stumps in 10+ ft.That's where the bigguns' like to hang out around my house.
  13. I am a "anyway I can get it in there" kinda guy! :
  14. My favorite is a jig.Worm sure is right behind it.
  15. Actually I believe Wal-Mart sells some fish catching lures.I have noticed that selection differs from area but some of my go-to lures are at Wal-Mart.Just to name a few: Spot Remover Jigheads(in Missouri anyway) Bandit 100 and 200 DD22 Shad Raps Rat-L-Traps FLW Finesse Worms Booyah Baby Boo jigs Yeah...I know color selection there isn't the best.
  16. I haven't used the Evolution.I will be trying it probally.I use exclusively P-Line anymore.100%Flouro for anything with a single hook.Co-poly for anything that has trebles. That is just the way I do it.
  17. I agree,Catt.Prespawn is alot about timing. Fish here too prefer a soft bottom to spawn. The fish that came from chunk rock and some rip-rap were prespawn fish.Later when I found a change in bottom composition(thanks,I was looking for that word earlier),I was catching fish that were coming and going.
  18. WOW!I can't believe that!I wonder if they are going to withdraw their sponsorship from FLW? On a good note,Get ready for some good clearance sales!

Excellent points made,Randall.I have caught alot of good size fish on finesse worms.I always felt that a finesse worm presents as a easy to catch and swallow meal.
  20. That's to bad.I thought it was a good idea.
  21. The prespawn is just around the corner. This is my favorite time of year. The fish are fat and usually in a good feeding mood. I had struggled in the past during the prespawn phase.I always seemed to be a step behind or a step ahead. The fish have a job to do and I believe there are clues that may give away their location during this stage. Early March the weather usually doesn't want to cooperate in the mid-west.One day it's snowing the next it is 70 degrees.Cold fronts may pound in one after another, causing an angler's mind to wonder on the effects. As studies have shown fish tend to start moving out of their deep winter dwellings into the shallows for the spawn. This does not happen overnight and I feel the fish will go though staging periods until the time gets right. One of the most important observations I have found is the right type of bottom+water depth=fish. While fishing with a friend of mine during the pre spawn on Lake Barkley, the day had started out as usuall for me,struggles to find the bigguns".There were a variety of lures working at this time but I stuck with my "go-to"lure a small jig.A light findly turned on in my head, yes, the TV shows, reading artcles and chatting on forums was about to pay off. I had laid my rod down sat down on the front deck, opened a Mt.Dew and tried to relax, clear my head and think about it.I had been fishing offshore structure with only smaller fish for results.I had heard of fish holding on chunk rocks during that time but never really tried them for I hated throwing at the banks.I had found a bay that had a channel running down one side with chunk rock dropping off into it.The fish were there!Yep,the one's I was looking for.Not only that they were there when it was cold and were there when it wasn't until one day it got warm enough, the fish were gone.I had found several spots during that time that were holding fish. The right depth of water with chunk rock had them there. It was a solid pattern. After the fish had moved on I was lost again for a day anyway. On the next trip, after some unhealthy thought,I had figured them out again. The fish had come off the chunk rock and went to the clay and mud.It was observation that the fish were looking for a softer bottom to spawn.I may be wrong but that is what I believe.I felt like I had broke a prespawn curse with a simple observation of the type of bottom I was fishing. Just some thought on the prespawn.Don't be scared to share your "critique".Just remember in no way do I proclaim or want to be a writer.I just like to talk BASSFISHIN'! Like to here some input on what puts ya'll on fish!

My name is Chris and I am a lure modifying junkie. One of the modifications I do isn't a secret but I will share how I do it.I take a DD22 and drill a hole in it right under the lip into the cavity of the crankbait.I add 12 steel BB's to it.Alot of guys will just put silicone over the hole but I have found that my wife's(she is a cosmotologist)fake finger nails, some super glue,a fingernail file and epoxy, make a fine finish.I simply glue the fingernail, after it has been trimmed over the hole. After thirty minutes or so,I use the fingernail file to sand down the edges, then I just epoxy over the whole lure. Then I paint the whole lure.Another thing I am addicted to is custom paint on crankbaits.I love to come up with new colors or finishes that catch fish. By adding the BB's,I have a deeper running and much longer casting crankbait.I also add rattles to wooden lures using the same patch method.
  23. 3 1/2" tube or a 1/2 oz. jig
  24. I respool my reels before every tournament. If no tournaments I will only change maybe once every 4 or 5 trips.I try to keep it out of sunlight when not fishing.
  25. I like my New Balance.I tend to move around alot on a boat.
