  1. Not to derail this this thread, but I have a gen1 heavy veritas. I saw a fish eat my jig in shallow water, set the hook and it came flying out of the water at me. I actually apologized to the fish. You are right about landing a tuna with it.
  2. I completely understand what you're saying. I have seen other companies charge almost the price of the whole rod on their warranty programs when you total things up. I will also agree with you on Abu's customer service taking care of people the right way. I haven't bought one of their rods in years, but I always tell people that their customer service was top notch when I had problems. I never had to pay any ridiculous fees if any at all. I recently emailed them a guide repair/replacement question for a Gen 1 Veritas micro guide rod that I own which is wayyyyyyyyy out of warranty. They offered me an amazing discount on a new rod to remedy my issue which wasn't even anything major. I got my local shop to fix the issue for me for under 10 dollars, but the offer was generous considering the issue.
  3. You can pick up something from American Legacy, they ship to CA https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/falcon-lowrider-20-casting-rods.html This Falcon is on clearance for $80usd and you can get a tatula for about $150 usd
  4. Are you in the US or Canada?
  5. I have a 894. Sometimes I think the rod is overrated on sensitivity based on how people used to hype them up about feeling fish breathe on the bait and all that jargon.... Until I take a long cast and feel a thump transmit 30ft down on a fall with slack line. I say to myself is that a fish? I realize it is a fish and then I come to my senses. The rod is great. Still looking for my perfect line and reel setup for it. Glad you are loving the 893. I hear people say that's the "it" model. Happy fishing!
  6. Sportsmans Outfitters has a lot of options. Their new model Falcon Lowriders are $99 bucks instead of $130 elsewhere and they have a 6ft10 Head Turner which is made for pitching to 7ft models. Tatulas are that price also but they are 7ft1. LFC-610H Head Turner H F 9 12-25 lb. 1/4 - 3/4 oz. 6' 10" A popular pitching rod, It has the right action to accurately place jigs.
  7. You might have more options with the 15% off at tackle warehouse right now. I'd also look at Powell Endurance and Max and Daiwa Tatula rods Some are even priced lower at Sportsman's Outfitters
  8. I use them for everything basically. I have pretty much all speed retrieve ratios up to 8.xx and haven't had any problems using my 6s for everything. My 1st bait casting reels were a citica 200e and a revo sx gen 2 both in 6s. If they were still my only 2 reels I had, I wouldn't have any problems.
  9. I got one from Gander way back too on closeout. The 1st one I bought, the insert fell out of the butt cap, that sounds a bit awkward. I replaced it and then the second rod had the orange coating start splitting at the seams. I liked the rod, but the quality was lacking on the ones I bought unfortunately.
  10. I have one that I fish. It's this model, Revo Elite Aurora 64 What do you want to know?
  11. SR are $89.99 and Low Riders are $99.99 on sportsmansoutfitters
  12. Figured so, you will def see my comment ? Here is a 2019 comment from another forum "I was not a fan of the first generation Levante rods but I am a fan of the current generation Levante rods. The improvement is significant! In my experience, the 2019 Levante rods are easily in the upper echelon of sensitivity at that $200 price point. In my hands, they are clearly more sensitive than Zodias or E6X rods, and compare favorably to some of the well under $200 Tatula rods. The feedback we've gotten from customers has been extremely positive in terms of the overall performance and sensitivity. Quite a few guys have already ordered additional rods!"
  13. You on youtube? Think I commented on your vid based on this setup. Seems people like the 2019 a lot. I have the older model leviathan swimbait rod and they make the old stuff sound like poopie. It's a swimbait rod so it's not something I have a lot of models to compare it to like my worm rods so it works fine to me. I have one other swimbait rod and it's way different in terms of design and weight range.
  14. I see many complain about this model being very tip heavy and they move to the 894c instead. I have an 894, I have never fished the 895. There is a thread on tackle tour about the 895c within the 1st few pages about it. There are some favorable reviews tho, some info in here and there was a detailed review but I can't find the bassresource link, hopefully the mods are ok with the tt links, if not they can edit it. 6th post in this thread https://tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?t=53628 https://tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=81105
  15. They do make lead and steel weights that are smooth edged or coated, so you won't experience line damage. Tackle Warehouse has a bunch with descriptions about not causing line damage that are inexpensive. Maybe you had a bad batch, bad weight or you can try another brand.
  16. Hit Gary up since you have the TT links, he will set you up right. The Faust is killer from what I have heard. I have my eye on that. My buddy picked up the Valkyrie in the 7'4' H+ model.
  17. Definitely! I took my exsence dc to a seawall to do some saltwater fishing. I had to turn it to SP mode which is pretty silent after a while because people kept commenting on the noise and asking questions. Did more tech demos than fishing. I was a Shimano rep for the day ?
  18. I like it a lot. I was very surprised with the sensitivity actually. I have a Daiwa PX Type-R with 10lb braid with a leader on it. I was dragging a small jig and ned rigs with it and the bottom feel had me startled. I wasn't expecting it to be that amplified on the gravel or when it was hitting grass blades. I need to see if other reels/line feel the same way on the rod. The tip/taper is good too IMO, it'll sling baits pretty far and the fish stayed buttoned up. If the rod looked as good as some of the other Phenix models or rods from other lines, I'd be even happier. They have this for $199 on Sierra sitting on clearance. Have me eye on it, but do I need it? Abu Garcia Fantasista Regista Casting Rod - 1-Piece, 6’10”, Medium Light Loaded with Fuji® and 3M® component dependability for casting performance with braid, fluorocarbon or monofilament line, Abu Garcia's Fantasista Regista casting rod gives you the stiffness, strength and sensitivity for freshwater bonanzas! 19. I actually threw the 6 inch weedless 68 special Hudd around tonight on the Powell 765CF and casting it was pretty effortlessly. I threw a 3/4 oz spinner bait on it after. The rod is light, is says 3.7 oz but it weighs 4.7 on my scale. It's a good choice for a multi purpose rod IMO that can throw smaller swimbaits. If you want more versatility in swimbait selection then get a dedicated swimbait rod with wider weight range.
  20. People love Ande monofilament also
  21. I've always been leery of Quantum reels based on feedback I've seen here. It's almost as how Duckett rods are loved and hated by users online. I love testing different brands anyway, even if I become a fanboy certain lines (example: Megabass), I will just have more of that brand/line. So back to Quantum: The reel prices have been low online, eBay and forums, so I started testing them out. Received an Energy PT recently, reel has been great so far. It has been broken in. Caught a few big fish on it ranging from 3-6lbs in slop. Actually used the flippin' switch on it. It's my only reel with one for now. I am trying to catch a Tour MG on the low as well, it also has one. I have a Monster 301 on it's way for swimbaits. I thought my Lexa 300 was inexpensive, but I won the Monster for $61 bux total, $53 dollars plus shipping NIB. If it arrives by Saturday, I will report back after taking it inshore fishing for it's 1st outing Sunday. There's the potential for big snook, redfish and sea trout catches on it. 23+lbs of drag should be fun. After that, I will pick up a Nova Round Reel, Smoke model and a few rods this year.
