College Basketball
Certainly true for my team. We beat the number one team in the county almost beat the number two team in the county on the road. Then like was said earlier lost to Texas where we shot 30 percent form the foul line. Should be a fun season

"Rich mans sport"
I have told this story before but for those who do not remember it. My cousin and I used to fish together about 25 years ago all the time. While I never stopped he went to dental school and just lost any free time that he had. After about ten years in practice he had amassed quiet a networth. Built his mansion and such. One day he comes to me and tells me that he wants to get back into bass fishing and to get his son started and asked me to make a list of what I use and what I think is good. Needless to say I never stopped "collecting tackle" I say this because oddly enough I probably only use 20 percent of the stuff I buy. Especially jerkbaits, They are just so pretty. So I make him this list with wonderful Glomis rods shimanno reels, LC megabass and senkos in every color that I have. Not including all of the bandit, rapala norman and cheaper lures. I am talking thousands of dollars worth of stuff. He had me go clear down to the terminal tackle stuff. Anyway I put this in an excel spreadsheet and sent it to him. About a month goes by and he calls me and asked me to come to his house about two hours away. I say sure. When I get there he asks me if I could help him organize his new fishing stuff. I said sure. That dummy took that list walked in BPS and told them that he wanted double of everything on that list. The stuff that I collected over the years was bought in one day. He said you should have seen the look on the guys face when he handed him the list. Then he bought a 30k boat.. So he had about 45k in everything. He took his son fishing twice and he hated it. The son loved it. So he built a lake on his property and stocked it. He sold his boat, now all of that beautiful tackle only sees a 5 acre lake. My little cousin is now getting a little older so hopefully I can start taking him on overnight trips so he can see more lakes. Same cousin did this with me with golf. Took him for a fitting, latest greatest clubs, bag balls. He has hit one bucket of balls that I know of in three years. Normally I would be ticked about the waste of money however he gives back so much to the community and the youth in the area. I guess he is allowed to blow money of foolish things every now and then.

Learning to fish
RW i didn't take the time to read what you linked, but I assume it is what you have posted many times before. I have taught many kids to fish with the fan casting the senko and ikka that you outlined Just wanted to say thanks it has helped over a dozen new kids get their start.

Vacation to Florida
Not too familiar with that part of florida but if there is fresh water that you will be fishing there will be gators in it. I have never had a problem with them. They don't bother you unless you get too close to a nest. Just be mindful of your surroundings.

Pete Rose in the Reds hall of fame?
As much as I loved the man as a player, I say no. For the record he was my favorite player growing up and I am still a diehard Reds fan. However there has been one rule in baseball that is not to be broken since the days of the blacksox. You do not gamble on baseball. He knew it, he broke it and now he has to live with it. Baseball almost died after the Blacksox scandal. It took a larger the life figure who had his own demons to save the sport. Without George Herman it is hard to tell what would have happened to baseball.

Learning to fish
I agree with this. There are some days that fish seem to be hitting everything. This happened to me on lake Erie years back. I was catching 3 and 4 punders every other cast. So I put on a spinner bait. I never used them on Erie before mainly because I was always fishing deeper water. Well I slung that thing out there and the next thing I knew I had a birdnest that a Condor would have been proud of. After finally getting it out I went to reel it in and it was stuck in this weed bed below me. So i ripped it out and the next thing I knew I had a 5 lb bass on the other end. So I did it again threw it out let it hit bottom and then rip and Yo Yo it back. It produced the biggest fish of the day. That is one of my go to methods to use now.

Door security== easy cheap fix
A little unrelated but just a memory. I can remember as a child we used to go on a week long vacation 500 miles away and never locked the door. We had a farm and my uncle or neighbors would attend to the cattle and walk in the house and call the hotel and give us updates. I remeber as a child many times coming up from the barn and one of the neighbors would be sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee while mom and dad were still asleep. I would always shoot the **** with them for a minute before I got a shower and woke up parents and got ready for school. It is amazing the times that we live in now. I never felt so violated as I did many years later when I was broken into. I had a detached garage with the door only five feet from the bedroom window where my wife and I slept. Needless to say when I woke up to go to work and found out that my tools had been stolen I was ticked. I called the cops and they basically did nothing. Since that day my security has never been in question. I would actually feel sorry for the peoples family that would try to break into my home. Dead men tell no lies.

The Rams are moving to Los Angeles
well they only had 4 winning seasons in 21 years they have not made the playoffs in 11 years the only time they were relevant was when they found a QB bagging groceries and caught lightning in a bottle

I've hit rock bottom...
Hate to be that guy but man up. I have lost my Dad and held my Mom's hand through the most brutal bought of cancer that I have ever seen. I am about your age. I lost a wife, found the bottle, lost a girlfriend because the bottle, hid from dad's death with the bottle. Last year when mom got cancer I wrote on this forum about it and told everyone that I was done drinking and smoking. Lord knows that I have had some bumps along the way. But to this day now I am a better man because of it. I still drink from time to time. But guess what My Mom would not be alive if I would have not got off of the booze for a long time. I was able to make sure that she got the best care that she could have possibly received because I was clear headed. This is not a post to brag but to say thank you to all the people that supported me in my down times. As crazy as it sounds this forum and the support that guys gave me, telling me they were rooting for me kept me sane, I owe so much to people that I have never shook their hand but to me they are friends nonetheless. If you ever need anything send me a private message and I will call you and help anyway I can. Good luck and Godspeed

They're back
DNR guy told me to take some braided line and big old treble hook. Tie it on to a low hanging tree limb to where they would just have to just jump to get it. Bait it with a piece of cheap steak. I asked if that was legal and he said there was not a DNR guy in the state that would not shake your hand

Why I am a better ________ angler than you are!
I am not going to say that I am better than anyone at anything. However, when fishing I will say that I am willing to do more then most to catch fish. I do a lot of wet wading. In my case sometimes crawling on my belly a hundred yards to make one cast to one certain spot in a stream that looks too good to not hold a fish. I grew up reading small trout streams and spent as much time on the stream just watching and not casting. It is amazing the things that one can see in nature when no other creature knows that you are there. I think that is why I love wading streams for smallmouth so much. There is nothing like catching a 5 pounder on light line is swift current. Most of the time I only fish waters that other people are unwilling to hike to. However it is amazing when I am around other anglers that just hop out of the truck and start slinging lures or flys with no game plan. Usually when I am fishing a body of water even if it is one that I have fished for years I will take at least 5 minutes to watch the water see what nature is telling me and enjoy the quiet for a few minutes.

Match the hatch... Or off the wall
I do both as far as color goes. However I do try to throw the whatever the size of the baitfish in the water I am fishing is usually smaller in spring, bigger in the fall
-
New to the Fly
there are multiple types of flys honestly to be a good fishermen the key is to match the hatch by a cheap bug net and capture what is flying around where are you are going to be fishing try to pick a fly that best represents what you have practice, practice, practice take a pie plate and pace off about 30 feet don't fishing until you can hit that pie plate until you can hit that 7 out of 10 times laying your fly in the right place is just as important as having the right fly once you learn how to cast find a place that has bluegill, such as a farm pond they are not as picky as other species and it will teach how to play and to land the fish that and it is a bunch of fun Once you learn to fish dry flys learn to nymph BUY CURTIS CREEK MANIFESTO IT IS THE BEST BOOK FOR EVERY FLY FISHERMAN TO OWN IT CAN BE FOUND ONLINE FOR AS CHEAP AS FIVE DOLLARS BEST MONEY YOU WILL EVER SPEND

Cool Pics Of Lake Erie
I have been deep sea fishing many times and never got see sick. However the only time I got sick was on Erie. We were jerking perch in only 30 foot of water when within minutes four footers kicked up. We were just in a bass boat. I have never been that sick in my life. It was like being super drunk, hungover with the flue all at the same time.

Oil Is Getting Crushed!
This truly is a slippery slope. People tend to think that we are in the import business when it comes to oil. However we export more oil that any other country. I have friends whose sons just graduated from one of the most prestigious petroleum engineering schools in the country at the top of their class and they can't find jobs. I was an oil and gas attorney and saw the writing on the wall 4 years ago and got out of it. Many of my buddies gave up lucrative private practices to go to work for the oil industry. They are now regretting their decisions.

Why Mayberry Was Such A Happy Place
Think about this Don Knotts was supposed to be the straight man in this show and Andy the goofball. Half way through the first eppisode Andy told the directors that there was no way that he could keep up with Don's comedic genious. Therefore they redid the pilot and the rest shall we say is history. Can you imagine how different of a show that would have been.
