  1. most guys are rigging them on a weighted hook .... if you look on tackle warehouse they have a vid that will help ya out ...
  2. id be willing to bet most here are haveing trouble with the hook set .... ive been there and done that .... hence the reason i say ,,, most dont set the hook right .... or dont have the right gear to fish a frog .... this frog fishing does take tweeking to get it down .... every thing from rod to reel to line .... it all plays a part .... then once you get that tweeking down its time to get the hookset down ... im no expert but as of the end of last season i missed verry few bass .... in fact all of last seaon i may have lost or missed 5 bass that really hit my frogs .... the first thing i will say ,,, if your frogging with a flipping stick ... get a frog rod ... when you buy one get one that is crisp and fast .... im not tryin to bash a co but stay away from the loomis frog rod unless your fishing crankbaits LOL ... the reason i say no flipping stick is because there just too bulky to truly get that quick hook set you need half the time ... im sure you could catch a few with the flipping stick but you will miss just as many ... for line i use 50lb braid ,,, nothing else .... for reel get a burner ,,, brand doesnt matter ... just make sure you can pick up the line in a heart beat ... last the frog ,, i use spro and i will tell you there isnt a better frog out there .... if you have the grear and the hookset down the spro will hook them .... i do fish frogs 90% of the time from mid june through early fall .... our lake become slop holes by june so once i see it on top i have my frogg ...
  3. the olny color i worry about is the belly color and the color of the leggs ... thats all the bass see anyway .... i like the realistic looking bellys and leg colors .... or if i see a frog ill try getting a good look at him ... then you can match the spro ...
  4. well im not sure what braid you are using ... i use power pro and suffix ,, on my frog rod and top water rod .... the braid floats just fine ... if the braid would sink like flour i wouldent use it for top waters ... i know that
  5. this really depends on the water .... is it clear or gin clear or stained ??? i prefer fluor in alomost all cases .... i feel flour will get you more bites ... i also like the way the senkos fall in the water on a flour line ....
  6. this is the main tip i can give you .... dont skimp ,, get the best pair you can get ... you can see better in the water ... but protecting your eyes is always the best reason
  7. any one say ZILLION ??? ok id say the ZILLION
  8. if you are looking for an 8fter .... you couldent go wrong with the st croix LTB big gulp .... i have one and all i can say is this stick is lite ,, in over all weight ... i also love the action of this stick .... then theres the liftime warrenty ...

  11. steve take a look here www.stcroixrod.com if you look under LTB RODS you can see the handle and compair it to the rods in the ltb series .... i dont feel the handle is long at all but have a look see .... also the big gulp is liter than the pitchin stick in weight ....
  12. steve ,, your gonna want the big gulp ,,,, st croix LTB 7ft11 heavy mod-fast //// it really is a sweet stick .... i have one and to this day cant believe how lite it is .... i really like the action of this stick as well //

  18. not bad ,... welcome abord ... wow theres more cheese heads on here .....
  19. i olny skip with my baitcaster .... i will say i use very little brakes at all ,, if any .... i like my reel to be free ,,,, just like when i pitch .... its all about controlling that spool .... i just feather the spool as i skipp .... i use a little snap with the wrist and skip it out there .....
  20. You forgot Davy Hite who won it focusing on the herring a couple years ago at Clarks Hill. But Hite was also fishing an entirely different pattern. Hite's bluebacks were spawning on a hump in relatively shallow water. That's why his topwater and swimbait were so succesful. When that bite slowed, he dragged a jig. If the deep blueback bite is on, I believe it will be bluebacks that are out on mainlake points suspended over deep water. This is when Casey Ashley will be at his best IF those bluebacks are deep. I talked with Randall today and he said a friend of his said the pros are finding fish WAY back in shallow water. So my prediction of the deep bite could be absolutely wrong. I think 23lbs has the lead after day 1. there will be a deep bite and there will be a shallow bite .... i picked ben matsubu as a dark horse because of the way he worked that c-rig ,,,, i picked hackney because he does well on beds and prespawn ,,,, there is going to be a crazy jerk bait bite you know KVD will look to exploit that .... casey A is a no brainer pick ,, being the classic is at his house .... i just dont believe he will take it .... not yet .... ;D
  21. thats a nice muskie you got there ,,, good job .... when i see them bad boys ( pilke or muskie ) i always try getting my bait outta there ,,, olny because i dont like handling them .... they sure are good lookin fish tho .... ;D
  22. ok i want to see everyones top 5 pics to win the classic .... heres mine ... IKE Ben Matsubu Greg Hackney Boyd Duckets Derik Remits sorry burly my spelling may suck ( with the names and all ) but lets hear your pics ..... ;D
  23. well i have a question .... if these jigs cost roughly 5 bucks a pop .... why arent the skirts hand tied ??? that would solve the skirt problem .... also most hand tied jigs are on par with that 5 dollar price tag ..... ;D
  24. AVID why not ???? i love watching the fireworks while my food cooks .... LOL
  25. you wont need an extremly sensite stick .... in fact most guys fish glass ,,, witch offers very little feel ( compaired to graphite ) .... if you want to stay around 200 bucks ..... get you a woo davis cranking stick ,,, spend a little more on the reel ... as for reel get a slower reel ... i use a calcutta 51 ... is a 5:1 and the speed seems just right for me ..... ;D
