  1. Ebay is pretty flooded /w a lot of preowned alphas105 from Japan. I'm not big on buying used JDM reels but you can find some good deals here and there. You'll likely have to replace the gears which are readily available from the TackleTrap but if you can find a good deal on them new, i'd go that route. The Alphas CTSV is kind of a niche reel. Buttery smooth but I just wasn't a fan of the spool. I'm also not a big fan of the t31016 spool either so take that for what it's worth. It isn't a direct replacement of the Alphas 105. I wanted to use it for things the spool capacity didn't cater to. If it had a spool close to a 103 capacity, i'd have a couple of them for sure. Couldn't find a place for it so I sold it. If you have something you wanna cast like 10# fluoro/mono with, it will be a slam dunk at 180$. Spools a little quicker than a traditional SV spool you're used to as well but it isn't bad. There might be some pictures floating around on this site from when I got it and showed the spool size but I don't have any handy. It's a super, super tiny spool.
  2. they have some of the worst customer service in the industry and you'll wait months for your rod. It's not a product of the pandemic. They've been like this for years.
  3. Alphas 105 or alphas ct. prefer the 105. Sold my alphas ct. Super smooth real but I just wasn’t crazy about the spool. Just me though. Other people like it
  4. It’s because it is. RCS and daiwa handles are the same. Price is also nearly identical if you want to replace it.
  5. it's for the drag star clicker. Just set it back in the spring and put the plate back over it. There's small dimples on the plate that when hit by the pin, makes an audible clicking noise when rotating the drag star.
  6. Engage the clutch and hold thumb bar down Hand tight drag star install handle
  7. sounds like one of the yoke springs might not have been seated and it's sitting in the real hitting the gears. sounds are hard to diagnose. Could be a number of things. Just pop the side plate off. very easy to do.
  8. Yes. Most of my reels have very high end bearings in them that come with either 1 shield or both shields removed. Running them shieldless is fine.
  9. I use different lubricants depending on the bearing. Spool always gets oil. I prefer hedgehog oil. Frame bearings get a heavy synthetic 90wt gear oil or a grease cut I make depending on the reel. All shields are removed and never reinstalled.
  10. I've only held it. It's the same size as the current Zillion SVTW but it has a recessed dial on the side plate like the Steez SVTW/ A TW/ Morethan PE. It felt great in hand however there are a number of complaints in various daiwa groups about the gears going geary quickly already due to the construction of the pinion. Kind of expected /w a reel /w that high of a gear ratio but not that quick.
  11. They are cosmetically and aesthetically amazing rods. The blanks are fantastic and their actions are some of the best in the industry. However, they are built like crap and most of the are so annoying tip heavy they aren't fun to fish with. Their 68mxf is one of the best jerkbait blanks I've ever used.
  12. Message "@rembrandtreels" on Instagram. He isn't cheap but his work is impeccable. For high quality, non rattlecan work, you're going to be paying a premium.
  13. I spray it on my reels /w fluoro or mono the night before in my rod locker. occasionally during the day but not often. I use very high quality fluoro. also spray a couple shots when re spooling out of habit. one of the small bottles of KVD lasts me close to an entire 8 month season and I have 16-20 setups usually in the boat.
  14. This time of year, I throw a WEC Mutt and Black Label Peanut over anything else. Flatsides are quite the difference makers in the spring and fall.
  15. i have spares of the nut/spring/washers. daiwa often sends it /w the order even if they say it's on backorder. if they short you, let me know and i'll send you a couple. i have a handful of them.
  16. which washer? you only need the 2 concave washers + 1 flat washer under the nut. Adding additional washers is only necessary if you want to increase drag pressure. pretty rare to have to do that but i have a couple with additional washers. you can honestly go to the hardware store and find them. They aren't anything special. they vary in thickness like handle shims.
  17. Yes, you can use either one. If you use the screw on just make sure you get the right orientation obviously for whatever side rail you use. If you get a universal one, you’ll need the spring that goes underneath it and the nut that screws onto the driveshaft and the spring sits on top of that. I don’t know if they have it on their site, but if you call them I guarantee Bryan has a fair share of them laying around He could sell you or at the very least get them for you. I would just give them a call. They’re very very nice people
  18. Tackletrap has the zaion drag star , larger metal sv103/morethan styles and the slp colored ones. Both are larger than the stock sssv. I prefer the spring/nut loaded drag stars over the screw on. You can use either.
  19. The reel will cast a 2oz bait fine. The stock spool on the steez A isnt incredibly deep and you will cast off the majority of the spool throwing a 2oz bait Over a large area target casting, you’ll be fine. I love the steez A but if you’re routinely throwing a larger swimbait, opting for a deeper spool would be optimal.
  20. I live in swim jig country and around the guy the guy that is regarded as inventing/perfecting the swim jig. Rage menace and single tails are all I throw on a swim jig. Occasionally a little dipper but not often.
  21. It’s the same exact model as before. The only changes are cosmetics/knobs.
  22. SSSV takes 2x 3x10x4 for the spool bearings 2020 tatula svtw takes a 3x10x4 and 3x8x4
  23. Did the same thing on my Daiwa Morethans and Steez A's. Took the clicker out. Was annoying.
