  1. I think it comes down to your personal belief on the situation. From the information I have been able to gather. The majority of todays hooks either do not rust or will take such a long time to rust out that it would not be beneficial to the fish. However the fishing handbook put out by the DNR here in Michigan says just the opposite, leave the hook in. I try my best to remove the hook without injuring the fish. However since I do not keep any fish I catch, if there is nobody near by to give the fish to, it's going back in the water.
  2. No industry wide standards. Rods, hooks, jig and spinnerbait weights, the list goes on and on. It's a manufacturer and marketing dream and a consumers nightmare. Just my two cents.
  3. I got hooked on sticks this past summer. Used dingers, shimmes, big bites/gander mountain and of course the original. Caught the most on the original followed by the big bites. If you use owner twist lock hooks, you will get more life out of all of the brands when t-rigging. Will try a bullet weight on the dingers and see if that helps. If we ever come out of the ice age here in Michigan.
  4. It's easy to be frugal, it's just a state of mind. Clearance should be my middle name, wether in a store or online, the clearance dept,is my first stop. Be on the lookout for some great deals between now and Spring, A lot of them will not be advertised, especially in the big box stores.
  5. Welcome to BR.
  6. I've used P-line CX as a main line and was satisfied at the time. I now use braid for mainline with 12lb red label as the leader. No complaints with either. You are going to have to decide if you want to take the step into flouro with red label or another budget conscious flouro brand.

I'm recycling an old soft side cooler for plastics. Fits 23 bags of plastic, fits perfectly in my bookbag along with the four plano box's.
  8. Download the app fishing knots to your phone. This is my favorite knot. With flouro remember to wet and slowly tighten making sure the wraps to not over lap each other. That is the key.
  9. This is great information, thanks.
  10. "The stock hooks are VMC on SK baits, same as Rapala, yet every one thinks Rapals's come with some fantastic hook". This says it all ww2farmer. The great selling power of KVD on full display.
  11. When I go to the city park( Which is a converted interstate gravel pit ) that is where I practice a new technique.because I know where the fish should be, which helps in my confidence to throw new baits. Once I catch some fish there using the new technique I will then try it on the bigger lakes that I frequent.
  12. I'm using strike king and gammys in 2/0.Be careful when landing the fish, a sudden head shake will have you hooked on the trailer. My thumb has been cut open several times because of this.
  13. Because all of my reels are spinning, I switched to braid with flouro leaders last year. The improved sensitivity, line management, and added line strength are all benefits. Economically, you can get two or more years usage out of braid with proper management. The fact that bluegill are hitting my line as it lays on top of the water, reinforces my reasoning for flouro leaders.
  14. I am going to make a commitment to mastering the art of the drop shot and jigging from shore. This is a repeat of last year, which became an epic fail once I discovered the art of Yamamoto ( Senkos )
  15. Every bass I have caught in the past two years has a direct correlation to the fine people of this site. This is the best continuous education program(in the art of bass fishing) on the web. Thanks to everyone. You guys rock!!
  16. I've been using the triple surgeons knot for the leader and the san diego jam at the hook. No break offs so far.
  17. Burton, Davison area. 98% shore fishing, Mott, Holloway. Buell, the Mounds.
  18. Megastrike , Senko's and Strikeback spinnerbaits so far. Couldn't be happier with those suggestions.
  19. Partly sunny and 34, first of three above freezing days since the ice storm. Rain actually sounds kinda nice!!
  20. I caught a 4 inch bass on a 5 inch senko this summer. Made me laugh all day. A 10 inch worm might prevent that from happening, however as others have stated it won't prevent the majority of fish from biting. Quite a few of videos showing bass unable to swallow larger fish.
  21. I guess it's true, fishing never gets old!!
