What Technique For This Rod?
If its a casting rod, it'll make a good jerk bait rod. Spinning rod, small cranks and light plastics.

Ticked Off!!!

My Day With The Drop Shot
FWIW...I use 10# 832 braid and it works really well so I think you're going to like the braid. I enjoyed your write up, very descriptive. Thanks for posting.

Favorite Drop Shot Baits
x2 I really like the Dream Shot. It is soft though and doesn't last long. Invest in some mend-it while you're at it.

Siebert Outdoors Punch Skirt Review
Well one thing is that you would be using a flipping hook and preferably snelled. Can't snell a jig head. You don't have to snell the knot but it makes a big difference. Every fish I caught was hooked perfectly in the top of the mouth snelling it. Traditional jigs have an angled eyelet. A jig head would need to be made with the eyelet coming straight out of the jig head to get true punching capability. If it lands in the weed mats on an angle, it won't penetrate as well or at all.

Frog Tips?
I use LiveTarget Frogs/Mice and KVD Sexy Frogs almost exclusively. As mentioned most hollowbody frogs will take on some water. Also walking hollowbody with braid is a little more tedious than using a heavy mono. You have to get the cadence just right. Even a chugging motion is just fine. I only walk it when I hit open water or a big clearing in the middle of pads. Usually you will get a hit on the edge of those clearings and not in the dead middle of them.

I have never experienced the noise problem. Odd to hear that.

Powerdrive V2 - Digital Steering Shorting Out?
Have not called them but I plan on it. I don't know that I could hand control effectively with a remote in the nasty stuff that i fish. Open water wouldn't be a problem but I think it'd be too much of a pain for my normal fishing. I just wish they'd redesign the pedals for this thing because I've read on numerous other forums and sites that they malfunction or go bad. Not exactly appealing especially when they're $90 a pop.

Fugly Bucketmouth!!!
Looks like you and that bass have the same tattoo artist. Cool picture for sure, I think it looks neat!

Powerdrive V2 - Digital Steering Shorting Out?
Soooooooo any fix or solution? Or am I S.O.L? I mean it seemed to work fine when completely dry, but any bit of moisture seemed to have messed it up. I'm not buying any more pedals. I'd rather sell the whole thing and upgrade to be completely honest. The TM itself is a beast and works great. The pedal sucks.

Powerdrive V2 - Digital Steering Shorting Out?
Even though I had a great weekend fishing I did have one issue that I hope someone can shed some light on. I have a Powerdive V2 70lb thrust trolling motor. Now, the pedals for these models are crap..I know this but don't have much of a choice. I had the pedal out over night and there was a good amount of condensation from the evening dew. As I was using the trolling motor later that day it was starting to turn counter clockwise without me touching the pedal. It would continue to wind unless I held my foot on the opposite turn direction. As I returned to my dock, i had the TM deployed still and I noticed a little while later that the wires had been all coiled around the shaft. I ran down to the boat and it turned so many times it popped my transducer wire clean in half. I was shocked it had the strength to do that, but quite ticked. The motor would only do that turning if the pedal was plugged in. If I took the pedal off, it stopped. It's got to be something shorting out on the pedal right? So that evening i stowed the pedal away in a compartment so it would be dry for the morning. I was only able to fish for about an hour the next morning, but that problem didn't happen again. The pedals are supposed to be waterproof.....well this would suggest it isn't. Damage is already done and luckily just a snapped wire was the worst of it. This pedal is only about 7-8 outings old so practically brand new. This is my 2nd pedal since I've owned my boat. The first pedal that came with it crapped out 2 seasons ago. What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone else had this same TM and pedal with similar issues?

Best Drop-Shot Rod Of All
I have a St.Croix Rage in the 6'10 ML/XF, Ci4 2500, and 10# Sufix 832. Great set up and a lot of fun to catch bass on. It may not be the best rod but it is very sensitive, light weight and feels great with the combo I have going.

Sufix Performance Braid
It's great stuff. I use Performance, 832, and Power Pro. They all are great lines. I'd go with 10# on your UL rod.

Wisconsin Froggin' And Punchin' & More
In all honesty Dwight....I felt like it was too. I have a Rapala 50lb Digital scale. I did a test at home with a gallon of water which is supposed to be 8.35lbs. My scale weight had it around 8.5-8.6lbs. So it's not far off but this fish just felt heavy to me. Plus at 21" you would think it'd bee in the upper 5's to 6. Either way it was a nice healthy bass. It didn't have a thick belly, pretty slender.

Wisconsin Froggin' And Punchin' & More
Thanks. Dark backs and yellow bellies. The bottom of the lake is pretty much muck and silt through the entire lake and it gets very warm. I've seen water temps in the 90's in the dog days of summer. Almost all the bass in there are colored like that. I actually like when bass have a nice white belly, I think they look prettier. But, I'm not going to get picky on colors when I'm catching them. ;-)

Siebert Outdoors Punch Skirt Review
I just wanted to do a quick review of the new punch skirts from Siebert Outdoors. Mike Siebert was kind enough to get them rush shipped to me to so I could fish them this past weekend so I told him I'd give a nice review. Right off the bat, the price point is terrific. 1 oz punch skirt with multiple color options for only $5.75. That's hard to beat when searching out some of the major brand competitors. Slither rigs are $8 or $9 each I think? Anyway, I used 1oz in the Hard Candy color. I snelled a trokar TK130 and used an assortment of trailers. RageTail lobster in watermelon red flake, Rage Tail shellcracker in green pumpking sapphire, RageTail craw in candy craw, and last I used a Havoc Pit Boss as straight green pumpkin. I was using 40lb Suffix 832 line and I was able to punch through some really thick mats with relative ease. Some of the casts I would launch high up in the air so it came down like a missle. The punch skirt worked flawlessly and I would recommend them to everyone here. Mike does an excellent job on his stuff. I used the same 1oz punch skirt the entire weekend. I didn't catch a ton of fish, but I nabbed a few. I have come to realize that I need to beef up my pitching rod using heavier baits like i did. Prior to this, I never did a lot of actual punching (pitching yes) but I can see where a longer rod with more back bone would be much more effecient with heavy baits. I still got the job done and was using my 7'1" MH/F St.Croix Rage rod. 1oz would be the max I would throw with that rod. I think I should have switched to a 3/4 oz but I was in fishing mode and was just on the go. I think even 3/4oz wouldn't have penetrated some mats I was fishing.\ All in all, great product and great service from Mike at Siebert Outdoors. I will definitely be getting more of these. They are worth every penny and Mike's craftsmanship is top notch. He has a great color selection too to match any trailer out there. Way to go Mike and thanks again!

Wisconsin Froggin' And Punchin' & More
Spent Friday through Monday up at my summer home with the family. Got out to fish just about everyday with decent success. Weather was in the upper 70's clouds and sunshine for the most part. Had a few storms trickle in on and off Friday/Saturday. Water temps were uppers 70's and broke into low 80's on Sunday with a lot of sunshine. I had a lot of blow ups at the good hours for topwater, and I spent the rest of my time punching weed mats with my new Siebert Outdoors tungsten punch skirts. I will write a review in the tackle section of that after this post. Overall I had a great time with a lot of blow ups on the frog. I think every bass that hit my frog I caught, but I missed a dozen pike or so. They just can't seem to inhale them the same way a bass can. Lost a really nice pike at the boat. Here are some pictures from the GoPro of a few catches. Big bass of the weekend. 21" and 4lb 11oz. Just goes to show you the length and weight difference of the northern bass vs a southern bass. This guy was fun to catch and fought like a beast in the thickest, nastiest slop. You can see how much lily pad and weed growth I have to work with. I love it. Big pike of the weekend. Just around the 30" mark. Nice fish that smashed my LiveTarget frog. A few more pictures of other fish. I have some video footage that I'll try to put together showing some of the catches.
