  1. The Arbogast Mudbug is not flat and has netted me several lunkers after ice out .
  2. I have some Guido bugs , that might be the way to go . Thanks for the reminder .
  3. I like to hop it on a jig with hook exposed if the snags are minimal using light line and a spinning reel . Weedless and light line has not played out well for me so then I go with heftier baitcasting gear and heavier weights and fish them like a worm or jig .
  4. Yeah ,I was looking at those . Whatever I get will have to be ordered because there are no trailers with a flat side being sold close by .
  5. I've made plaster of paris worm molds before . I figure a flat jig trailer would be simple and a way to recycle some soft plastics . Fine details are of no concern . A trailer that would aid in jig skipping is what I'm shooting for .
  6. I'm not investing any money into the project . Just going to melt some plastics and pour them in . I might get creative and make my own with a small block of wood and cut the tails off double tail grubs . Lay them down touching each other pour the Plaster over the top .
  7. Heres the plan . I want to reuse the soft plastic baits I accumulate . So I'm going to get some sort of jig trailer , lay them flat in a container , pour plaster of Paris over it to make a mold . Melt the worms and pour them in . I need trailers that are perfectly flat on one side . What are your favorite trailers that meet the criteria ?
  8. River fishing for smallmouths is the most fun I ever had while fishing .I have to agree with every post . Removing the skirt from a jig and replacing it with a Hula grub has been a deadly combo . I have these tubes molded onto a jig head with a wire weed guard that are a killer . I think they were made by Stanley .
  9. Wouldnt be surprised if that style skirt made a huge comeback some day .
  10. I like the bright colors like white and chartreuse early on but in spring everybody around here is throwing bright spinnerbaits . After several weeks of it bass seem to wise up then I switch to duller baits to keep the bite going .
  11. I'm not going to list them all but its Okuma Epixor and Piscifun Phantom heavy . Its a smooth casting combo .
  12. My favorite jig and pork combo has always been black jig / brown frog or vice versa .
  13. Almost all my reels are in the 6 or 7 to 1 category . I dont feel the need for anything else. I do use a 5 to 1 for crankbaits but feel I got suckered into that . Heck , I had no problem fishing buzzbaits with the old round abus with the 4.6 to 1 ratio.
  14. Replacing hooks is expensive and I'm not made of money . I'm a recreational angler and not trying to keep up with tournament anglers . I use stock hooks until they lose their integrity . On some of my older baits , I do change the hooks out . I still have new in box , old stock Bomber Long A minnows and I change them out .
  15. It seems to me that salt works and the Berkely stuff seems to help keep bass hanging on . I use to buy The Berkely formula in bottles . I also liked the crawfish oil and one time had a bass hold onto a soft plastic with Real Craw applied to it , all the way from 20 foot deep to the boat . I just reeled it in slowly then set the hook at the surface .
  16. Black grape has always been my favorite soft plastic color to use . The popularity of June bug doesnt surprise me at all .
  17. I thought it was the same thing .
  18. I entered a team but didnt see some big names . KVD for one . I dont know the MLF format . Entered for a chance to win prizes .
  19. I cant list just one . Spinnerbaits , crankbaits , buzzbaits , toads...Sometimes I'm searching deep flats and I 'll go with cranks , Carolina rigs , Little George...
  20. I have never had a guide but I have had shoreline lunches .
  21. Still have a few and use them a bunch . Still have a few but havent used them in many years . I used them in the places where the Wiggle Warts are famous for . Steep rocky banks in the spring .
  22. I only had two titanium Terminators and both broke after a few dozen bass . They have great blades .
  23. If all the colored worms are melted together , brown will be the result . I did it .
  24. Here the water in spring is often muddy with just an inch or two of visibility . I have caught some nice bass on black chartreuse and black orange .
  25. I can only relate what I use . An Okuma Epixor 7 foot hvy action . I like the beefy cork foregrip which is a deal breaker for most anglers but a must for me . 75 dollars.
