What kills me with some of these pros is how animated they are when fighting a bass . Rod waving violently around like an orchestra conductor .

Last 10 years , mine has been a vintage Rogers Big Jim . Square bill no rattles .

In this situation any lure can be effective . To cover water in such scenarios , my favorite method is to start with a diving crank . Parallel Cast right at the edge , the closer the better . Then use a texas rig to mop up anything that I encounter that is different . Anything . I have had success with lots of different crankbaits on those type of banks .

Man , I dont know where to begin . I'll start with Shaw Grigsby and deep diving cranks .

I generally fish a contour break with a diving crank or a multitude of sinking lures . The depth finder will help a lot on how bass are positioned . Might be right on the lip of the break , close to the break or suspended over deep water near the break . There are a lot of shad in my area , I always take note of the depth they are in open water . Bass know that depth and will often set up accordingly . There are many ways of fishing contour breaks , I cant cover them all . Yoyoing a lipless bait that vibrates like a Red Eye Shad on the descent has been a good producer for me the past few years .

When its working , a Bomber Long A Minnow is magic on big bass . Immediate Post spawn is when I like to throw it . Start at a spawning cove then work your way out to the mouth then to a main lake point. Hit everything .

If I used a leader the knot would fail . I use 15 lb big Game but I dont catch Giants . I did have a giant sturgeon last spring and fought it forever . No way I was going to land it because I was on a high bank . When it rolled over and its mouth was visible , the hook come out , thankfully . I hope the old fish survived .

I pitch from a 14 foot jon boat all the time . Because I'm standing on the floor and not a raised deck the gunwale is in the way . So I shorten up my line some and pitch a little bit differently { raise the elbow higher and to the side ]than I do when fishing from a raised deck . A 7 foot mh or h rod is sufficient .Make sure to use enough weight , to little weight makes it difficult . .

This .Get the bait dialed into the rod . It should be an effortless underhand toss to get the accuracy down .Example , I use 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits with a 7 foot mh rod because that is what I cast best .If I use a 3/8 ounce then a little bit of weight is added in the form of a trailer . Pros will take a couple dozen rods so they have a rod to match every lure weight . I dont have that luxury so have to match the lure to the rod .I'm no expert but do OK for a serious recreational fisherman . Skipping is starting to come along . Once again , lure selection is critical .A Zman Popshadz skips incredibly easy .

I picked Schmitt because he is suppose to excel in grass but now I hear the grass has all but disappeared . . I'm going to stick with him . Most of the times I change picks it comes back to bite me .

I have caught a lot of river fish with the Bomber Flat A . Also its about the only crankbait I have caught suspended bass on . Rip it , reel in the slack , repeat for the suspended bass .

I have a floating Rattle Trap and have never used the thing .

I had to stop fishing early last year . Now I'm retired and rearing to go but this fellow keeps hounding me to work for him . I dont want to but I might have help out a little . I'm ready to fish . Not just bass but rough fish too . I have access to a spot where a creek dumps into a river and when it floods catfish , suckers , drum , buffalo , carp ... congregate there . Its so much fun . Build a fire , drink some beer and catch fish .

The best way to avoid skunkings is to go to good waters under good conditions . We all know the places bass like to hang out .
