  1. Not catching a keeper is getting skunked on keepers . Not catching anything at all is a true skunking . We counting keepers or bass ?
  2. I get skunked all the time when I stop to make a few cast , or fishing a body of water that does not harbor a good bass population . But If the conditions are decent with a good population of bass , No flooding , high muddy cold water or some other unusual event , I cant remember the last time I have been skunked . If I put the hours on the water I catch at least a dink or two . I only tell lies to keep out of trouble .
  3. I have been using Dingers extensively the past two seasons ,Texas rigged in heavy brush . The action is not important to me in that situation . I just like the simplicity or the worm without appendages or anything else that draw the curiosity of bluegill and crappie
  4. I dont even know why bass would hang around shell beds . They dont eat them " I dont think" and its not a cover they can hide in . Maybe its just something different in the environment .
  5. I have never knowingly fished a shell bed . I read and hear about it from time to time . Can anyone share how to go about finding them ?
  6. I am the worlds worst frog fisherman but dang , its a lot of fun . I have no tips but I approach weeds like any other cover and always have a spot to cast at . It doesnt improve hook up percentage any but gets me a few more strikes .
  7. I like knives . Catfishing I like to carry a big Ontario Bowie knife that I traded Maxximus Redneckus for .
  8. I dont differentiate between quality and quantity . I strive for both . If I lived where double digit bass were a realistic option , then quality would be the goal .
  9. A chartreuse , long lipped Bomber Flat A on Mississippi river dikes or rip rap banks is deadly .
  10. The color red being a good bass catcher . I think you guys are lying .
  11. I think you are doing it correctly . Bass like green cover . Select lures that fish green cover well . Now try to present the lures stealthily with low trajectory and accurate cast . Matching the weight of the lures to the rod is critical . A rod might be rated for 1/4 to 1 ounce lures but thats for overhand casting . When trying underhand lobs to precise spots the lure weights wont be so diverse . At least for me thats the way it is . If I'm repeatedly casting a lure to the right of target the lure is to heavy . The rod is loading to much and not unloading quick enough . If the cast are going to the left , then the lure is to light . When I get the two matched perfectly the cast go where they are suppose to go . A difference of 1/8th ounce can make a huge improvement .
  12. parasite clips work the same way and they also make a bullet weight that has a clip on it . Check those out .
  13. None at all . Hooksets are better because the bait never slides down the shank .
  14. I cast , allow it to sink to the bottom , then lift and drop as if I was worm fishing . My lifts are a little bit higher than I normally do with a worm .
  15. Most of my lipless fishing is in deep water, hopping it like a worm . A Red Eye Shad is the only lipless I fish like that .When fishing from a john boat , the bait can be heard when lifted off the bottom and can be heard making a ticking sound a ticking sound when its falling . The boat hull acts like an amplifier . Then I can hear the bass hit the bait before I ever feel it , if I feel it . Its some of the funnest fishing I do and three out of the last four years my largest bass has been caught with this method . I'm especially fond of the tungsten two tap but also employ the regular and silent models . The quarter ounce size will slay white bass using the same method along with drum, channel, and blue cats . Its so much fun that I'll ignore largemouths and put dozens, maybe even a hundred in the boat .
  16. I make my own straps with a piece of bicycle inner tube . I didnt know something similar was being manufactured . I liked the swivels better than the inner tube straps . The Harmony straps might be an improvement .
  17. I have better luck feeling and hooking bass with a short leader . 2 foot max and as short as six inches .
  18. I havent jumped on the red band wagon yet . When the early spring water gets muddy a chartreuse lure gets used a lot .
  19. The all around 7 foot mh works well with lipless baits and most other baits I toss .
