This will be hard and it will change often .I'll answer top for 2021 and I wont be able to come up with 5 Cranks : Red Eye Shad , Rapala Crankin Rap 5.5 , Rapala Crankin Rap 14.5, Timber Tiger, Dredger 8.5 Top Water : Homemade Buzzbait , Zman Popshadz , Stanley Ribbet Worms : Senko , Dinger , Jelly worm Creature baits : none Spinnerbait : Homemade spinnerbait , Booyah Covert and top lures that didnt fit any categories :Jerk Bait unknown brand , Fats Gizit , locally made chatterbait
  4. Do you think they are gulping air ? I always thought they were feeding on plankton , algae or something .
  5. My all time favorite bait for heavily muddy water , like one inch of visibility, is a black jig with an orange Uncle Josh pork frog . Yep , they made a bright orange frog and its the only situation where I used them .
  6. I dont know at what time I catch the most big bass . I do like to get to the lake at sun up and beat everybody else there .
  7. I like catching bass more than going fishing . Its no fun getting skunked . If I can catch them on an old technique great , if I have to do something different , that is great too .
  8. Yes . I caught bass on top of slop and inside a culvert that was mostly blocked with over-hanging vegetation . I am not good at skipping lures but I can skip a PopShadz . I was skipping it way up in that culvert and caught several bass in the process .
  9. So three years ago I was slaying bass out on a point . A couple of guys trolled out to see how the heck I was doing it . I showed them my Texas rigged Jelly worm , then left them there to fish while I try other spots . Three years later they are still on that point . They are probably there right now .
  10. I have an Uncle who fishes agonizingly s-l-o-w . I'll be worm fishing , picking a lay down apart and he will complain that I'm going to fast . What is slow to me is fast to others .
  11. As far as red worms go I just dont even own them anymore . They worked all right deep but didnt produce as well as other colors shallow , so they just took up much needed space . Red cranks , I never had a lot of luck with them except my favorite night time crank is a red craw . It probably just appears black at night .
  12. I used them mainly for river smallmouths fished Texas rigged . Its a killer .Caught lots of chunks on those things .
  13. I want to fish cranks "lipless and squarebills" tight to cover so the most important aspect of the lure to me is weight . If not under-hand tossed precisely then it cant be fished effectively . So I either have to match the lure weight to the rod or match the rod to the weight . I dont think I'm as good a caster as a lot of other guys , so its imperative to get the weight right . To little weight the lure goes left , to much they go right . If I'm fishing parallels to the shore , weight isnt as much a factor . I like to fish steep sunny banks in early spring .
  14. I've been at it since the 70's and continue to evolve as a bass angler without trying . It just happens .
  15. Zman Popshadz . They skip like a flat rock and fish on top of slop like a frog . I'll have to find more next season .
  16. The muddier the water the shallower and closer to cover the bass will be . So fish tight to cover . I have had good luck with jigs , texas rigs , spinnerbats and cranks .
  17. Both . I often fish my way from spot to spot . Slowing down when I reach a destination , fishing fast in between .
  18. I still use them but not as much as in the past . I caught a five lber this past fall on a 6 inch black grape rigged with exposed hook on a jig head fished 20 foot down .
  19. I would not know . I use 70 dollar rods . I'm afraid if I bought an expensive rod then I would want more .As of now, I dont know what I'm missing .
  20. I relied hard on Texas rigged stick worms this year . Senkos and Dingers mainly .
  21. Its funny how we catch bass on a certain lure at a certain place or time and then we encounter that scenario again we reach for that lure . If I'm fishing steep rocky banks or rip rap in the Autumn, I think Bomber Modell A . Vintage photo of me , nice bass , Bomber Model A , autumn on a steep rocky bank .
  22. I think almost 100 per cent of the time a good piece of cover holds at least one bass . I come to this conclusion while snorkeling in clear water . If the place looked like it should hold bass it did ,I have no idea what percentage strikes my lure but I try to get it as high as possible by making good cast , being stealthy ...
  23. I have the Little Georges and the spinner doesnt seem to spin well with some of them , cant feel the vibration when lifted up .I also have a plastic Manns tail spinner , dont know the name , dont recall catching anything with it .
  24. Often its just timing . If fish are not caught its hard to gain confidence . I had no success on Sexy Shad for a long time , so I just didnt use it even though I knew it was a good pattern . Eventually I caught a fish here and there and now its a top producer for me .
  25. The best place I ever fished for large bass was a chute off the Mississippi river that was protected by a levee . It never flooded and was full of carp .My pb bass came out of this place . One day I observed a school of carp sucking on the surface so I attempted to snag one . I threw a Bomber Long A Minnow past the school; , then started ripping it as hard as I could through them . A big bass hit it right in the middle of the group .
