  1. The way I fish is constantly evolving . When I went to Bull Shoals last spring , spinning gear came into play but my home waters they were used minimally .
  2. Junebug or any other soft plastic that is a form of purple . Tequilla sunrise , Bama bug , Elec Blue , Black grape...
  3. Me too . I get them in as fast as I can in case I cant later . I can always change my picks , I already have once .
  4. I use to try to buy everything . It accumulates fast and now I have more than I know what to do with . I dont buy anymore unless its to replace something or it fills a niche .
  5. I went from someone who was a pretty poor skip caster to decent really fast . The secret , Z-Man Pop Shadz . You want to learn how to skip cast ,get some of these things . Let about four to six inches of line out , parallel your rod tip four to six inches above the surface , and this lure will skip like a flat rock . My jaw dropped when I skipped this thing "deep" inside a culvert that was mostly covered with over-hanging vegetation . Learn on this lure then move onto others .
  6. The first thing I think of when confronting fallen trees is what lures will navigate through it the most efficiently . Spinnerbaits , buzzbaits , texas rigged worms or jigs usually get first consideration . Thats how I go about fishing all cover or structure .If the bass dont cooperate then adjustments are made .
  7. I shook Tom Mann's hand but that was at the weigh in . He was the emcee and handed my cousin and I a six thousand dollar first place check . The highlight of my bass fishing experience .
  8. Update . I have went through a lot of different ammos and the gun is cycling almost 100 per cent now . It likes the bulk federals , CCI Mini Mags and CCI Blazers . All my 22's perform well with the CCI's . After all my ammo is spent I think I'll just shoot CCI's in everything .
  9. Idiocracy Walk Hard the Dewey Cox Story
  10. Wow , freaking toads .
  11. My very first crankbait . Never had hooks on it . It works in the bathtub .Made it around 30 years ago .
  12. I read an article in either Field and Stream , Sports Afield or Outdoor Life about fly fishing for bass when I was a kid .Afterwards went out and purchased a fiberglass Garcia Conolon fly rod , reel , line and a few bass bugs . I remember having a hair moth and a hair mouse .Dont recall catching a bass on them . I started fishing for sunfish and caught an occasional small bass that way . I love catching bluegills with a fly rod but gave up on bass .
  13. I used those things a lot back in the day . My most memorable experience with one , I was anchored above a rock dike on the Mississippi river tight lining for cat fish . I tied a shallow diver on and tossed it on top of the dike then engaged the reel and let it set there with the current providing the resistance . That thing was staying in place, ricocheting back and forth atop the rocks and enticed two nice channel cats to hit it . Caught a lots of bass on them . I dont have any more of the squarebills left but I'll find one some day . The thing I like about the old timey cranks is they are either silent or have a subtle knock that are more preferable to me than the more belligerent baits that came along later .
  14. Googled the best hook for the Deep Wee R and found this thread from 2014. Man @whitwolf you built your collection in only 7 years . Must have started here .
  15. yeah , they catch fish . I havent made any for a long time because about half of them end up with an air pocket in the nose .
  16. Here are some plastic worms that I whittled out of a piece of wood , made a plaster of paris mold then melted used worms to pour . Did this in the early 80's .
  17. I'm not the only one who removes the weed-guards at times . I've lost some nice fish when weed guards were not needed . Texas rigs , same thing . Rig it with the hook exposed or on a jig head when feasible .
  18. I'm in and heres my lineup , subject to change . Hackney Schmitt New Prince Kimura
  19. ^^ I think I want a jiggerpole rod for Christmas .
  20. I have one of those old 7'6'fiberglass flipping rods and still use it , for carp .
  21. Also lakes change over time , a lot . There was a featureless cove that for years I avoided , never caught much there . I revisited it once this year , caught a few fish , discovered something unusual about it and it has now become one of my main destinations .
  22. LOL That is exactly what I thought . Fred .
  23. There are times on an elec motor only lake where I'm fishing down the same bank as perch jerkers "a Harry and Charlie term " and covering water much faster than they . I always ask if I can pass and they always give permission . I give bank anglers a wide berth . When bass anglers cut me off and start fishing ahead of me , that tics me off .
  24. I have two rattlin Storm Thin Fins . One of them is a heck of a bait and the other I may as well leave at the lake for someone else . The extra girth and rattle make them castable with casting gear . I own lots of Little Georges .
