  1. I fillet them the same way except I cut the ribs out with a regular fillet knife "before" cutting the meat from the skin . I get more that way . On small fish I use a regular fillet knife through the whole process because I have a tendency to cut through the backbone .
  2. I really like to throw dark purple , june bug , bama bug , tequilla sunrise , elec. grape... Those purple hues just catch them . I'll try others at times but the violets are my bread and butter .
  3. I carry everything from 1 foot divers to 25 foot divers along with lipless baits . They are usually fished on a 7 foot mh rod . The large cranks I'll use a 7 foot hvy action rod . Lighter baits will often be thrown on 6'6" med action if I bring it along .
  4. This has been a recurring topic in the years I have been here . Bass jumping completely out of the water and not being able to catch them .If they are bass evidently they are not catchable . Personally , I have never seen bass exhibit this behavior .
  5. Froze my buns off today . Cold and windy but caught 2 dozen . This 4.5 lber was my largest , caught 20 foot deep on a black grape 6 inch jelly worm rigged on a 1/4 oz jig head . Might be my last trip of the year .
  6. Same stuff I use in the spring and summer . Been using t-rigged Yum Dingers this fall .
  7. If harvested responsibly bass are good table fare .
  8. I have tapped into huge schools during the fall . In the backs of creeks and on points .
  9. When I started making my own I tried all these different blade configurations colors ... I didnt catch anymore fish . I caught less fish .Now I almost always throw a gold willow with a chrome or copper Colorado . I have to use something and this combo produces well . The gold /copper combination came by accident as I ran out of chrome . I caught a lot of bass with it so continue to throw it . I use slightly larger blades in the spring then step down a size afterwards
  10. I never fished big swimbaits or glidebaits so I went with crankbaits . Not that they are hard to fish but because its a bit tricky finding the correct one for the depth targeted .
  11. How long did it take you to rig it and how many fish do you think you can catch on each one ? I dont see how it will last more than one fish . I'm not trying it , at least for now . I'm usually late to the party but seems like to much work .
  12. I dont fish them much . I can count three times when I used them and caught fish . Once bass were hitting cranks closed mouthed so I switched to a jerk and started hooking up . Last year in Dec I caught them around brush piles . Caught them in clear Bull Shoals lake this past spring .
  13. I like Randys rants . I have seen several pros ranting this past week over the same subject , rising tournament cost and low payouts .
  14. These would have to be made up ahead of time . That would take longer than tying a carolina rig and last maybe one fish .
  15. I use the same spinnerbaits for fast current that I do in deep water . A heavy , compact lure with a small blade . The Strike King Rocket Shad has the dimensions I try to copy with a single willowleaf blade . I cant tell you what size that is at the moment but it seems like a number four .
  16. I'm presuming you are fishing on the bottom . The three main lures for me at that depth would be a worm , a super deep diving crank like a Berkely Dredger and a Strike King Red Eye Shad .
  17. Try sidearm casting so there is not as much line in the air when the lure touches down .
  18. I cant help . It sounds like you are doing everything correct . I keep a 1/2 oz buzzbait on the surface at a slow speed during the entire retrieve,
  19. When fishing a lake or an area of a major reservoir for the first time , I can study maps and find the obvious structure quickly . Problem is , so can everyone else . Those are called community holes . I could ride around looking for less obvious structure or hope to find sunken brush piles with sonar but that is time consuming . I am not going to pass up points , there are still fish to be caught but the timing has to be right to catch a lot . So I usually find an area with visible cover , put the trolling motor down and try to figure out a pattern .
  20. I can only remember catching a few fish with a Spring Lizard but they were usually big fish .
  21. No , the Yum Dingers in Bamabug are sort of a junebug watetrmelon laminate .
  22. Like others stated I only peg in thick brush.
  23. BamaBug ! Lime Green is a killer color but near impossible to find .
  24. I needed you Monday . All the brushpiles failed me . I know about ten brushpiles on this lake and not a one produced . First time that has happened . I was lost . found fish in weeds and on a point but for some reason not brush .
