  1. Buzzbaits are the funnest when they are biting it . Other lures catch fish more consistently .
  2. I never use a bead .
  3. The most important thing about fishing spinnerbaits and other lures at visible cover starts at 12:56 .
  4. I'm still struggling with the technique but have had some success this year and caught a few fish . A Z-Man Pop Shadz skips like a rock . What helps me is just allow a couple of inches of line from the lure to the rod tip and get the lure close to the water . Maybe when I get better I'll allow more line out .
  5. I go to less bright colors and less belligerent blades but use the same weight bait . Still have to make the cast count and going down in weight means having to switch rods .
  6. The past few years I have thrown them more than ever . A spinnerbait along with a worm has been my major one two punch this year . Caught thirty on that combo yesterday . Was well on the way to a 40 to 50 fish day then a storm blew in .
  7. I still use old crankbaits . Rebels , Normans , Bombers , Storm ,Rapala Fat raps .These all work well in that medium depth zone .
  8. Beetle Spins are for kids . Night fishing is better during the new moon . {this one might be true in clear water , but not in the waters I frequent}. Me when I was young asking a veteran angler "Do you ever fish over there?" His answer " No . Why would I ? There is nothing over there" He was either wrong or a big fat liar .
  9. I'm hoping for a mild cloudy day right about now . I'll wear a buzzbait out .
  10. 450 dollars , I would buy three combos .
  11. I''ve been clobbering 2 and 3 lbers . Lots of limits with that size fish . Only 2 over 5 but my big fish often come this time of year .
  12. Slack line or semi slack . I dont know what other baits do it .
  13. I cant tell you why fall but when the nights start getting colder I regularly find schools on points . A Red Eye Shad shimmies while falling . I can be in a school of smaller fish catching them with a worm then switch to the RES and catch a large one . Soon the thermocline will start getting deeper and the fish will too. I wont hesitate to throw a 3/4 ounce RES in water over twenty foot deep . The Tungsten Two Tap is my preferred model . Whats cool is when the hits are heard.
  14. ...meanwhile I'm wondering where all the 7 lb bass went .
  15. Another good choice is the Strike King Rocket Shad . Wrap some wire around the double hook if using one . Twice I lost big fish when they somehow managed to leverage that hook off . I pour my own now , copying the Rocket Shad but with a regular spinnerbait hook.
  16. Because of their lousy hook up ratio , I only use them in thick vegetation .In little to no cover , I have other lures that work a heck of a lot better than a frog .
  17. When I throw a lipless bait , its almost always deep , especially in the fall . I caught a 5.4lb last week and lost another big one using a 1/2 ounce RES tungsten two tap . If that holds up as the largest bass of the year it would mark the third time in four years my largest bass was caught on a RES deep . I dont remember the last time I threw a 1/4 oz bait for largemouth bass .
  18. Whopper Poppers cant even be fished in the same places I toss a buzzbait .
  19. Yesterday I went camping and the river was down . I grabbed a rod and preceded to get skunked . So I practiced my casting . I did real good lefthanded , zero back-lashes, distance and accuracy was there . Surprised the heck out of me . I'm right handed but swing a ball bat lefthanded , so I guess thats why I was able to do it first time trying .
  20. Match the bait to the rod . Putting the bait accurately in the tight spots bass like to hang out at will catch the most fish .Buzzbaits excel in tight cover applications . Some rods the appropriate weight will be 1/4 ounce , or 3/8 or 1/2. If the lure is not presented adequately then the catches will suffer .
  21. I have grabbed the lips of the blades and rivet with needle nose pliers , wherever I could get a hold , then squeeze as hard as I can .
  22. Can you elaborate on what parts these are .
  23. I never see gulls in the summer hanging around steep banks . They stay on the flat banks waiting for game fish to corral shad near the surface . When I see a lot of gulls I graph that area out .
