  1. I loved a black jig with a brown pork frog or vice versa . Those were good combos for big bass .
  2. Lakes are different and so is vegetation . I can only comment about the stuff I encountered . Its just like the rest of the year . One day its all about the edges and the next time they are in the thick of it . Some times both . Its not a very far swim from the edge to inside .
  3. A weightless soft plastic with the hook buried . I recommend use a Senko type worm , they weigh more than others . Use a big heavy hook , that will aid in casting and help bring in a bass encased in moss/ weeds . Just twitch around over the top and pause in areas that look a little thinner , holes ... Heavy tackle will be needed . My subdivision lake was covered in moss and I caught a lot of big bass that exploded through the canopy to gobble a plastic worm .
  4. I caught a 7 lber on a spinnerbait , then the next fish , a 1 lber , broke it .
  5. Caught a 15 lb limit on my hand pour today .
  6. I like all the major brands and my own . Anything with a willowleaf main blade and a half ounce head .
  7. I dont know . I just raise it . You are over-thinking .
  8. I remember them . Never had one .
  9. They all break , even titanium . I pour my own and change baits every twenty to thirty bass , even sooner if it gets severely mangled . I dont risk losing a bass anymore because the wire broke .The components , even the hooks get reused off a retired bait . I've caught several hundred bass on the same set of blades .
  10. When fishing in a boat with limited space , I carry four , 7' mh rods . one ,7' hvy action . Now I may throw in a spinning rod or 6'6" med action baitcaster rod depending on how I think the bite will be. When in my Lowe I'll carry them all including a short pistol grip .
  11. The heat kept me off the lake for most of August . At the end there was a break in the weather and the shallow bass were wolfing down a spinnerbait . The deep bass were not so cooperative .
  12. I dont remember the last time I used a snap . I'll use a barrel swivel occasionally to prevent line twist on something like a Little George . As far as quickly changing lures I just retie . A snap swivel , I dont think I even have one in my bass boxes, I do carry them in my catfish box .
  13. I take 5 to 6 rods and they are not finesse . Light lures just dont get used much unless vacationing in a clear water impoundment .If not fishing offshore then I'm casting at visible targets with lures heavy enough to make precision cast . Leave the 1/4 ounce lures in the box , tie 1/2 ounce lures on and hit the target I'm looking at . Thats my style and its effective .
  14. In fall I am going to hit some points deep .The thermocline will be dropping and I generally catch my deepest bass of the year then . If the bass are there it can be a bonanza . If not , cover a lot of shallow water .The bass are biting somewhere .
  15. Spinnerbait and Texas rigged worm . I caught a double limit of 15 inch keepers last Thursday .
  16. This would be interesting . I saw this on a knife maker forum . Guys who make their own send them to a forum member and he puts them through the paces then writes a review .For the guys who want to participate send a spinnerbait to a member and he has to fish them , then rank them . I'm sure I would come in last but it sounds like fun . Bragging rights only and the tester gets to keep the baits .
  17. Mighty handsome baits . Comparably mine look like something Fred Flintstone would make but they catch them pretty good .
  18. One way or the other the OP has to resolve the issue of having too much slack line out at the end of the cast .
  19. If an overhand arching cast is made the lure hits the water followed by the line . It might be a 50 foot cast with 60 foot of line out . Thats ten foot of line that has to be reeled in before the lure starts to move . Low trajectory sidearm cast alleviates this problem .
  20. Its tough on some lakes ang good on others . Here, the thermocline starts dropping and at times schools can be found deep .
  21. 7 years later and I have to say I really like that the CRR-5 . I only have two so the hunt is on for a couple more .
  22. It was on fire here too for largies . No lunkers but lots of 15 inch keepers . Congrats on your PB .
  23. I have had the most success on a Bomber Long A minnow , silver flash twitched on top .
  24. I like 15 lb Big Game but for Texas rigs I prefer a clear blue fluorescent line so I use 17 lb Trilene XL in cbf . Its the same diameter as 15 Big Game .
  25. I use a trilene knot 100 per cent of the time with mono or floro . Palomar with braid . Easy to tie and no slippage . A trilene will slip on braid .
