  1. GPS wasnt invented yet . ???
  2. ?Are these ponds square with a fence around them ?
  3. I get excited when driving over the dam , I see no-one sitting on my favorite spot .
  4. I let the worm fall straight down but there was a day a year or two ago where I was pretty sure there were bass on the point I was fishing , they were showing up on the depth finder . I could not get them to bite a worm or crankbait . I just kept trying different retrieves and finally lifted the worm , held the line tight and let it glide back down . That day , it was the ticket , catching several fish. I have not caught any with that technique since , but its planted there in the back of my brain .
  5. I fish some really gnarly brush piles . I work the outside first before going in .
  6. I quit tournament fishing because of it . My last tourney I had a ridge marked with two buoys . Two separate bass boats come scooting down the lake, turn around and fish next to each buoy with me in the middle . That was it for me . I had week days off , so gave up weekends all together .
  7. I used one today , for about 5 minutes . I just wasnt feeling it .
  8. VMC are my favorites . The bend by the eye is different and it holds the worm in place better and straighter than any other offset hook I have used . The Ike approved with the 3 degree twist are good but I dont like the twist so I just straighten them out with needlenose pliers . I was out today and had a gammy tied on and the worm kept sliding down the shank so I switched to my trusty VMC and no more problems .
  9. I was just looking at the Northern standings and saw a familiar name . After two tourneys Nolan ,known here as Everything That Swims , in in 12th position with 35th and 38th place finishes .
  10. I'm the same way . I use to fish it but havent picked one up in years .
  11. It seems to me this time of year , in the lakes I fish , the deeper bass spread out and are not grouped tightly in a spot .So I try to cover water quickly . I already mentioned crankbaits but also a Carolina rig with a 1 ounce sinker allows me to do that . I approach shallow bass the same as other times of the year .
  12. I remember a time I was on a school of dinks , catching one every cast out on a point . I caught the attention of a couple of anglers and they trolled out to me , asking questions because they were getting skunked . I invited them to fish , I had other places to hit that day . The bass were in one little area . I picked up my buoy and left it with them . They didnt have a buoy and lost the spot because thirty minutes later they were gone .
  13. It depends where I find fish . If shallow the usual spinnerbaits , toads , soft plastics... I like to fish flats deep in august . I dont catch a lot on deep flats but sometimes I hook into a lunker . Crankbaits cover water , then worms and Red Eye Shads bounced on the bottom if I find them . Same lures on points , I just dont need to cover as much water on points .
  14. Lay the line out in the grass with nothing tied to it then slowly reel it in . It removes twist . I do it every time I respool a spinning reel Seems like I can never spool it on without getting some line twist .
  15. I suppose thats true , dont know if he has a biology background or not but , his livelihood depends on keeping bass alive and he's been playing this game for a long time .
  16. I took it on myself . Dad and grandpa were cat-fishermen and crappie in the spring . Then my cousin got me involved in a bass club and it escalated from there .
  17. I'll keep an occasional limit on an electric motor lake and I put the metal snaps on a piece of paracord so it is quiet clanging on an aluminum boat . I'm anal like that and want to be as quiet as possible .I troll around all day with the fish in the water and never had one die on me . I think the trolling like that keeps water moving through the gills .
  18. Thats a problem all right . I would like to see them move that front hanger forward and reintroduce it .
  19. I still throw old baits a lot . Rapala Fat Raps , Rebel Deep Wee R's , Bomber Models A's and Long A's , Storm Wiggle Warts and Norman Deep Little N's all get playing time . Top waters like a big Rebel Popper, Pico Pop ,Dalton Special and Spooks see occasional use. I kind of have gotten away from top water plugs just because the local lakes have changed .
  20. While reading this I kept picturing Harry and Charlie .
  21. I dont know for sure but the one I think was my personal best , in the 8 lb range , I was in my 20s and there is no picture . Caught it behind a levee off the Mississippi river on a jig and pork frog . I never carried a scale until recently . The only bass that ever got weighed were in tournaments .
  22. This thread is going to get locked .LOL , Once again , I have never done it , I dont know if it works or not but his is an article from Bass pro Bernie Schultz . https://www.bassmaster.com/bernie-schultz/how-keep-your-catch-alive
  23. They suck .
  24. Creek channel , creek bed when it comes to bass fishing terminology same thing . Wait , I never heard of bed bends . ?

You are getting wedged in rocks . Maybe try using a fat tube and a jig head that is smaller than the tube . The jig head wont wedge as easily and the tube will collapse and pull free . I havent tried it but it seems like it would work . I do that with fat grubs and small jig heads in riprap and it works .
